Wake island is where my Dad used to work as a chef (first cook ) in the 60's to mid 80's.He own a beach house there where he stays after work and invite friends for a beer and barbecue. Now he is gone he died last May 14 2020 few days before his 89 birthday'. Good memories remains forever
Yes, its natural beauty, with clean, empty beaches, some birds, is muffled by its WWII history. Now it is inhabited by Thai contractors to mow the lawn and serve any military visitors that may go there on occasions.
Did you have good experiences there? It looks incredibly desolate and bleak to me. Interesting to hear such fond memories from someone with firsthand experience.
The music is not only a distraction, but the lyrics of "the Mexican sky?" The setting of the island and its significance is way off base here. Not a single connection. Nice video though.
The thing I love MOST about Wake island is the fact that it is NOT modernized ... It does not have a HUUUGE ugly resort on it... Its not PACKED With 200 beach chairs.. There isnt 10 pools.... Its just the coolest place. I only wish they would allow people to stay there... LOW numbers of people at a time.. Just keep it just as it is... dont change it at all.
The ww2 black and white photos really take away the fact that our Marines and Soldiers were fighting on amazing vacation spots, especially here with the Marines fighting off Japanese invasion and then being imprisoned on the island after
Beautifully done video. The music was fine. Not sure why anyone thought it detracted from the quality. I do wish however, that you showed at least one shot of the 98 Rock. It is the most sacred place on the island. Kind of like visiting Pearl Harbor and not taking a picture of the USS Arizona.
@I A he was a military Chaplin in the ministry sent there as part of the beautification program. He started all kinds of things from the golf course, a yacht club, and jogging club.
Really Nice, What kind of Drone did you use? I spent 4 years on Wake and Was one of the Members of the Peale Island Beach house you had filmed. That Beachhouse was the original Coast Guard Beach House and Sailboat club. Thanks for Posting this!
Wake Island was taken by the Japanese early in wwii after FIERCE resistance and they paid a heavy price. The surviving soldiers and civilians were of course taken prisoner. Later in the war planes from the Lexington I think it was bombed and strafed the island for some reason. The Japanese thought there was an invasion coming to reclaim the island and they rounded up all the prisoners of war and killed them--something like 100 men. It is said that one guy escaped the initial lineup and carved a statement near the place where they died indicating what happened. They found him eventually and killed him too.
Definitely highlights the beauty of the island, it also pulled at my heart strings to know that I will probably not set foot there again (left in 2018). Nice video !!
I would love to go back to Wake Island once again. Is the Drifters Reef still there? I swam in the lagoon with some sharks, of course I didn’t realize they were there at the time.
Great video footage of Wake Island. Would’ve loved to have seen more. As for the song choice, I just turned down the volume. Sorry, lived there for about 10 years so the music was a mismatch…IMO
Yes, I agree, but there an infamous story, with a Japanese defense cannon still rotting away in the beach ( as of 1998). It is a peaceful island, no commercials, no radio, maybe the military TV, when it works.
their was a big ship sunk off the end of the runway back in 1963 when I was on my way over to korea I notice it landing to refuel our plane didn't see it in this film wonder what happen to it thanks for the film sure enjoyed it brought back great wonderful times again thank you
I have seen remnants of the ship you talk about, all submerged, rotting away. That was in the middle '90s. There was also a Japanese gun turret on the beach, still standing up, then I remember the rust imprint of a vehicle (probably a military car), the car had worn out to a height of a couple of inches, by now it has probably completely disappeared.
The Japanese Suwa Maru which was beached at the reef after being attacked by the US was reclaimed by the Japanese in 1963-64 for its metal. They took all the tanks, and other metal structures they could salvage except for that one canon that was on Peale island.
You must have a military/defense purpose. You might get a pass for documentary work. There is no medical facility, none, may be a nurse only. Maximum elevation is about a foot.
Probably not, there is nothing of value. Pan American Airways used it as a gas refueling station on the way to China, in the '30s, then there was commercial interest and companies were building resort hotels when WWII started. First invaded by the Japanese, the US leveled it with bombs a couple of years later. Commercial interest disappeared after the war and now it is a "private" place for military training. It is an island forgotten by God and by man.

RIP to your father.
RIP may god rest his soul 🙏
My sympathy to you
He will forever be watching over you . What happened to his beach house? Can you still visit it?
Beautiful place ♥I wish I can visit that, I love it.
The video was nice btw, nice drone scenes, good music and AWESOME place
Very nice. Made my heart ache for those Wake Island days long gone.

Great video, though “music” was appalling.

Good vibe

Thank you for sharing all of us this video! A lot of us having seen Wake Island in over 40 years ago.
the music accompanying this video is quite ridiculous; margaritas ? what about the serenity there? sounds like a drone on steroids.
Exactly. First few seconds ... this looks promising. Then the idiotic music kicked in. Next!
Mexican sky?
Was just there last week. Only for a few hours. Always wanted to land there. Cool little atoll.
Nice video. The music is pure horror. What The Hell???
I went there in the early 00’s. Our flight crew got stuck for 3 days. It was awesome! I wish i could go back.

Because they needed that air strip killed thousands of men

Love from India 🇮🇳 brother 🙏❤️❤️
Praying for yall with the covid outbreak. Love and peace to you as well friend.
Definitely a bucket list trip for me, my grandpa spent 20 years on the island during the 70’s-90’s. Some cool family history there.
@I A he was a military Chaplin in the ministry sent there as part of the beautification program. He started all kinds of things from the golf course, a yacht club, and jogging club.
The water color with that light shade of blue is just like the waters in Cancun Mexico. Beautiful.
I remember the bridge was there in the 70, now it totally gone.
The bridge caught fire but I don't remember what year
It was there in 2001. I walked over it many times that year.
Many a night at drifters reef
my man be swimming in remains of dead bodies
Love frm INDIA🇮🇳🇮🇳 😘
Nice video! I'll be there this August!
Think of all the unexploded bombs on this island. Dangerous place to be

DKI Inspire 1.
I was on Wake Island in 1969. Beautiful place.
I was also there in 69. I was in the eighth grade and lived across the street from the school. It was such an awesome place. Maybe we knew each other.
Ray Saeland, how did you get to visit this beautiful place?

@@ogoshen Aw, I used to like playing on that island on a video game called "Battlefield". It was on my bucket list to visit. :(
Oh That's Wake Island~! Great beautiful place. is it open for public? or still military restrict?
I would love to go back to Wake Island once again. Is the Drifters Reef still there? I swam in the lagoon with some sharks, of course I didn’t realize they were there at the time.
Does anyone know how they get power to oak island? Ive always wondered.. is it generators? or ?

My grandfather use to work there in 70s I think such a great place
Ooh thats great man, life should be very hard over there. No internet and sharks all around the ocean 😢
Less pollution. Better place to live in regardless of way of life there.
Why do people insist on adding loud annoying music to their video.
you can turn it down or off if you don't like it
Unnecessary muzak is a juvenile addiction.
why the music it spoiled it
What is this. Music video?
Nice except lose the music. Holy chit...
I liked the music. Just turn down the volume of you don't like it!
Welcome to duty commander
I'm guess you guys are all in the Air Force.
Omg god bless you service members looks like a very boring place to spend a long time at.
it is one of the pretty place I have ever been

thanks for the video. please get better taste in music.
what did it require to travel to the island?
ST4CK Probably an airforce transport plane.

bucket listed!
so USA bought this island from the Marshall Islanders?
Probably not, there is nothing of value. Pan American Airways used it as a gas refueling station on the way to China, in the '30s, then there was commercial interest and companies were building resort hotels when WWII started. First invaded by the Japanese, the US leveled it with bombs a couple of years later. Commercial interest disappeared after the war and now it is a "private" place for military training. That island used to be called Ane-kio by the Marshallese. Used to be conservation area.
I wonder what’s underneath the island
who tainted the ocean with aqua blue color?
I was there. That color is real, and with schools of small fish which the camera did not show. But, as a civilian you cannot visit.
Theres a Church on wake Island, which you didnt show in the video
Pity about the music.
They should allow the marshall Islanders and those evacuated from bikini because US gross fuck up at crossroads resettle here
Agreed. Music is awful
Great drone photography, pretty bad music
the music sucks, why do people play music like this? totally ruined the video.
Jesus Christ turn the f'ing music down.
