It wasn't fishing because there's not much fish in the area and this was before WWI so outposting wasn't particularly important. It was for mining of guano.
This island should be returned to its original owner Mexico. France stole this atoll from Mexico.
This island is French, stop lying Clipperton was occupied by Mexico, not own
Its French because its really close to france!!!! Oh wait
Elias D Reyes Well that's mexico's only argument, not ours :^)
After investigation in the 20th century, international judgment recognized this island as a French property because written proofs had been brought by France that one of its citizens discovered the island in early of the 18th century. Neither Mexico nor USA had been able to. And none of them had challenged this judgment since, so...
Actually the island was discovered by Spanish Alvaro De Saavedra in 1526. It was called "La Isla de Los Medanos"and it was part of the territory of The New Spain (Mexico) long before the French "discovery" It is important to mention that the island was a stop in the commerce route between The New Spain (Mexico) and Manila (Philippines) in the 16th century. Philippines was part of the New Spain as wellruclips.net/video/YspX1fhjBVU/видео.html
Es de mexico esa isla ahuevo
😳 theres no more than 50 palm trees who wouldnt go completely insane being stranded there & surrounded by women
if you are considering sexually assaulting women please seek mental help. you can stop yourself before you do something that you can never take back (if I misunderstood your comment and you're not saying that you would have also done what the lighthouse keeper did then forgive my assumption)
Clipperton Island is Mexican, not Fench. Every one knows that!
carcucov Ridiculous, this island is 1000 km away from Mexico, the first written proof of its discovery comes from the french as early as 1711 whereas no Mexican knew about its existence. Mexicans just tried to occupy it and failed, then the international arbitrage confirmed french sovereignty.
@@guguss3804 My friend, the Island was discovered by Fernando de Magallanes (XVI century) and it became part of New Spain; what we know now as Mexico. French pirats arrived 200 years later and prettended to be discovenirng something knew. On the other hand, those 1000km from Mexico that you speack about are the shortest distance to any continent.
Just a little History lesson. Best regards!
carcucov Erm i cannot find any writing saying Fernando de Magallanes discovered the island, so I’m gonna need a source on that. Also Mexico being the closest country does not make it the rightful owner, when discovered, the island was totally uninhabited, so as the international arbitrage said, the only ones who were able to give a written proof of their discovery were the french, the Mexican gouvernement even officially recognized french sovereignty on the island.
Guguss, Fernando De Magallanes discovered it and named it "Isla de la pasión". This information may be helpful to find what you are looking for.
Best regards from México.
@@guguss3804 I recommend you to read about Ramón Arnaud, he has one of the lady mexicans in Clipperton.
Clipperton Island is Mexican.. always
Île française !!!
That 🏝 island 🏝 it's gotta be México's territory....
LA ISLA ES MEXICANA. ESTA EN TERRITORIO MEXICANO. NO SEAN RATEROS!!
-descubierta por Franceses;
-Bautizada por Franceses;
Bravo.

Clipperton is British.
The British can't even hold on to what they have. The UN just ruled occupation of the Chagos islands illegal. The French colonies actually vote to stay in France. British Pacific colonies turn into Pitcairn Island.
it's owned by the French
ruclips.net/video/Hb8uQmzGNEM/видео.html The British did Colonize it for a bit but so did America and Mexico. The French sailed around the island reading out a proclamation, and when the Mexicans sent people to live there, it ended in tragedy.
sorry wait in the line. France owns it legally and Mexico should own it due to historical reasons.. UK has nothing to do here
Actually it's owned by Somalia
This island is not far from Mexico! It should be Mexican!
It's 1000 km.
You can't possibly Falklandnize this........
@@lament666 Appears to be what they're trying to do. Humans, I tellya!
