When were you all there? My daughter and I went down there on 19 September and stayed at the campground next-door to where y’all stayed in Rodanthe, but in their condos. I wish you had shown the town of Buxton where the lighthouse is with schools, the ballfield, and especially Connor’s grocery store. When we rode the ferry, it took us over two hours and we thought that was long. I have been riding that ferry for 58 years and never have I seen a dolphin. How fortunate Y’all were. Ocracoke is a really special island.

For water refills: I will take a cooler and fill it at a water spicket while in the bed of the truck. Then I have a hose I connect to my water pump. And reverse the hose from the tank from feed to fill. And pump out the cooler into my tank.
Or you can put a hose on the drain of the cooler and gravity feed your tank fill port(very slow)(height helps).

I love Ocracoke Island, laid back atmosphere, no chain businesses, great seafood and the National Seashore. My last trip was for the last week in October. FYI, not many people know but there is a dump station and potable water across the road from the campground, look for the parking lot to the trail head. Thanks for sharing your journey.

I forgot to fill my onboard water tank one time when I was leaving the campground. Luckily I called from a nearby Walmart and they let me come back into the campground to get my water. Thank goodness. I alway leave with a full 50 gal of water on board as I boondock for a week before going into another or the same campground so I need it.
I lived in Virginia for years so went to OBX many times. Next time you come down from Virgina and go through Currituck County, you might like to stop in Grandy, Walnut Island and visit Barry's Place.for great food and located right on the Sound. I is right on the way to the Wright Bridge to OBX.

The only thing I can think of as a reminder to do something is set it in your calendar app. In mine I can set whatever date I need to do something, I can set it to alert however far in advance I need to know about it and of course be notified. Figure out how long you need to get to a place to get water and whatever else you need time for. You could even give it it’s own ringtone. For water you can do “Mac the Knife.” There’s a mention of sharks in the Oldie but Goodie and sharks live in water!! Or even the Theme from Jaws!”

I've made the longer ferry trip with a "lesser than desirable camper." I hope you found, as our family did, the feeling of endurance in hindsight. Yes the rain welcomed us. Along with the bugs and ghost crabs oh!!! And the Nor'easter(tiny hurricane). But this is why folks like you and I, choose this path. And drag our kids along. Taking the same trip thru the jersey turnpike, if there is one,( I might have made that up, I don't visit NJ) is just as challenging with no awesome story to tell. The ferry system to Hatteras to Ocracoke to Swan Quarter to Cedar Island... Are all amazing and a trip worth taking. Not many stores, fewer gas stations, but untouched shores and waterways to learn about. You will notice a church of some denomination, at least every 7 miles by land.
Its up to you to understand the culture here.
Its made of nothing but LIGHT.

Great video! We stayed at Frisco Woods Campground in Frisco just above Hatteras in May and had a blast. Loved watching the kite boarders. They were everywhere. May is windy in the OBX so perfect for kiteboarding. We took our truck and Lectric bikes to Okracoke and had perfect weather that day for a ride around the beautiful island. It is so shallow in the Pamlico Sound. The ferry service is having an increasingly difficult time navigating the shifting sandbars. Glad all went well. Warmest wishes for many years of happy and safe travels. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍽🍁 and Merry Christmas 🎄 too and Best Wishes for a wonderful 2023! Looking forward to watching your RUclips videos! ❤

Beautiful videos. Welcome to North Carolina, hope you enjoyed it. I live in the center of the state near Hillsborough, NC and have been keeping up with you all for a while and so glad y'all made it to our beaches. If you are back on our coast again, check out the southern most Outer Bank, Bogue Inlet, the Crystal Coast of NC. You get sunrise and sunset because it sits east to west instead of north to south like most islands. My family has vacationed there my whole life. Unfortunately I think the only rentable campground is Holiday Trav-l park which is a little pricey. On down highway 17 is Bear Island where you take a pontoon boat ferry over to an uninhabited island to have fun, Shackleford Banks in back up the northern end of Carteret County, you can day people ferries over to Shackleford Banks for awesome fishing and shelling, etc from Beaufort's waterfront. Beaufort is beautiful with all of its historic homes and Pirate tales. Ft Macon is at the end of Bogue Inlet, Robert E Lee was the engineer that designed it back in the day(before he was a General in the Confederate Army he was an Engineer with the US Army). They sometimes have encampments of Confederate soldiers and show how life was back then and how the fort was taken, you can also go out on the beach and fish and shell there. If you ever head toward the west in our state, if you like Andy Griffith, stop in to Mount Airy, the town that Mayberry comes from. All sorts of history in the old North State. Andy also got his acting start in Roanoke at the Lost Colony about the beginning of our country and state. Hope you all had fun, sorry this is such a long post...accckkk

We carry 300' of hose to fill the water tank for those pesky sites with no services. Sometime we carry a fresh water tank from a Jayco TT that a tornado tossed and a fountain pump to transfer the water to the 5er. There are many Federal camp grounds in NC where we live and most only have electric. Love the channel.

Another water thing you could have tried is take your largest Rubbermaid container in back of truck and drive truck to water source. Fill Rubbermaid, drive to camper, hook hose up to fill water tank and other end into Rubbermaid. Turn on pump and it will fill your tank. Happily Ever Hanks did this. ☺🤩

OMG I did that ferry back in the 1990s and it was no wait .. Avon and Rodanthe were sleepy little beach towns .. the OBX looks like it has turned into the Jersey Shore. So so crowded. Wow 😮

That scenario with the water is one of the reasons I carry a 5 gallon emergency bladder of water. I can use it for flushing the toilet or I can carry water 5 gallons at a time to fill my fresh water tank.

The Hatteras to Ocracoke ferry route has the longest wait of all Outer Banks ferries because it does not accept reservations. It is best to get on the earliest ferry in the day possible to avoid hours of waiting. Groundings are much more common on that route because of the constant shifting of sands near the inlet. (Years ago that route only took about 20 minutes, now it takes an hour or so due to the more circuitous route necessary.) I am glad you got to see those beautiful dark skies and the Milky Way. Ocracoke is one of my husband's astronomy club's favorite places to star gaze. I hope your ferry ride off Ocracoke was less eventful.

The milky way was awesome I had never seen it before I'm in Akron ohio it's a mid sized city so lots of light position. But I got to see it when we stayed a week in outer banks the best way was before moon rise.

Nice video. Be careful with the e-bikes near water. Lectric states they shouldn’t get too wet. Looks like fun riding on the beach.

We are Michigan trolls ;) and live only a few hours away from Mackinaw Island. My eldest daughter from my first marriage worked the docks for Starline one summer and through their employee perks. We were able to get a free ferry pass for my husband, myself and two younger siblings. We didn't go to the fort because, when we went it was the beginning of the summer season and warning; insanely packed with tourists. We did love taking her younger sister and brother to the butterfly house, which on a hot day was probably not the best idea. They keep it like a hot house for the more tropical loving butterflies. However they did get to assist in releasing several new hatchlings so that alone was 1000% worth it!
We are currently waiting to see if our plans will go through kinda sitting on our backsides waiting on other folks to communicate about making a deposit to hold a TT so, praying they get it done today. Our first one that has been five years of researching and late night insomnia driven YT video watching. Love your fam and got a chuckle out of JJ's lolly holder as a Mother of seven mine ,yours and ours. It's hard to be patient when you're excited to get to you destination sometimes so I understand the wait part and trying to go with the flow perspective. I give you big points for the courage it took you to put your house on that ferry ,not sure I would be able to conquer that fear without a support doughnut.

We took our class A with a Jeep Grand Cherokee in tow on that ferry. Great trip; we were traveling from Emerald Isle to Waves. We also did the Lake Champlain ferry from NY to Vermont, the high speed ferry from Bar Harbor ME to Nova Scotia CA. And the Cape May - Lewes ferry.

We’re about to take our 30’ Reflection on the outer banks ferries. Googled “can rv’s fit on the island ferries” and was directed to your RUclips page which I am subscribed to anyway! On this 7 month journey we’re on we have run into ferries we can’t get on because of the angle of the ramps, would drag back of the trailer getting on and off. Have done a U-turn in the terminals…so want to avoid that again! Looks like we can from your video! Thanks for the footage! Our usual forget is to forget to dump before parking!

I think we saw those bugs when we visited the Great Lakes. My cousins said they’re fish food. Pretty weird. They live 1 day and die overnight. Dead flies everywhere until late morning.

You cannot sink, if you are stuck on a sand bar. You are on the bottom. They just have to get you off the sand bar so you can get somewhere. When the tide goes up, you will be able to float off the sand bar.
