Ahh the great dilemma, Beach vs Mountains. That's one of the nicest thing about living in Central North Carolina. A couple hour drive to some of the best beaches .... Then in the other direction a couple of hours to the tallest mountains East of the Rockies.
Carrie, you outdid yourself on this one. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! I loved it!! I'm SO sorry Dave's back went out. I have that same problem about once every year or two so I can really empathize. Hope he healed up quickly. Roodle is such a cuddler 😄. Really saw his sweet side in this video. Thank you so much for this video. I was born on the east coast and really miss the ocean so it was a very special one for me. You did it proud. Take care guys. Safe travels. 🥰
We spent Christmas on Ocracoke, an island practically shut down at the time. We parked our van and rented a cottage for ten days and it was great. Self sufficient and quiet.
national geographic should be knocking at your door! We are fortunate to have your videos and photos Carrie. Glad Dave is coming around.Thank You for this video.
Dave, try daily walks on level ground; and if you can find a jacuzzi, those jets work like accupressure. When I was a youngster like you, I had two big bulging disks that caused me all kinds of grief. I think walking "healed" my back. Now, as an old lady, I seldom have any pain at all, and I garden, kayak, swim, etc. Back pain is debilitating :( I hope you're better in no time. At least you're still smiling. Carrie, beautiful photography, as always; and I loved the song: Let's find something new... me and you. Thank you both so much for making these great videos.
Your photos and videos are absolutely breath taking!!!! You really have a talent there. So sorry for your pain Dave. Back pain is No Joke, that's for sure.
I absolutely loved this part of my trip in North Carolina. The Outerbanks! I stayed on every island and didn't do any campgrounds in my rig. The ferry rides were awesome and beautilful.
Carrie, this was fantastic and I am glad Dave is doing better. Pam is booking us a campsite because we have to go. You guys are always a joy starting off our Saturday . Hoping the snow is melting on you up north. Pet Roodle for us.
Fellow former Coastie - stationed at Ocracoke for 3 years. As a 21-24 year old I got off the island every chance I got, now every time I go back, I don't want to leave!
Spectacular photography as usual 😍 I suffer lower back problems as well Dave-I'm so sorry-that walk back to your rig looked excruciatingly painful 😥 Your ability to smile through the pain speaks volumes ❣️ May God bless you all in your journeys 🥰
I have the same problem and when my back goes out I use a homemade thin ice pack with a mix of ( one part) Isopropyl alcohol and (2 parts) water in a ziploc bag. I lay on the floor in a chair position and my legs are draped over the bench seat. This keep my back straight and the ice in the sore spot really helps sooth the pain. Sometimes I will fall asleep and my back feels better when I wake up. I am glad you are feeling better Dave. Carrie, no matter what happen you always put together a great video. The music and scenes of the beach was very soothing. Made me want to lay on the floor and ice my back! Safe travels!!
Thank you, Lorraine! That position on my back with my legs up helps. Carrie also made a mix of mint and coconut oil that seems to speed up the healing time.👍😀
Carrie, that was just beautiful. I could practically smell the salt air. Doodle looked mighty happy too. Sorry Dave. Hope you are feeling a bit better now.
Great video! Ocracoke is one of my favorite places. I'll be there in a couple of weeks. Just as a FYI, that campground does have potable water and a dump station across the road from the campground.
I just took a trip through this area and wanted to do the ferry but ran out of time trying to get to the Outer Banks to spread my best friends ashes for his birthday. I’m so sorry for Dave’s back. I know that pain personally. I just sold my house and bought a 29’ motorhome which I will be traveling in as soon as I get a tow behind Jeep and get my truck sold. I so look forward to meeting up with y’all on the road soon. Happy travels 🚍
Beautiful photos and videos of your amazing camp spot. I hope Dave's back is better now. Sad he got hurt. The campsite looks like a great place. Thanks for explaining even with a 4 wheel drive van, it's not good if it's loaded heavy then you could still get stuck in the soft sand. Good advice.
Dave, I told you once before about your lower back. Get a TENS UNIT for your back it will stop the pain. Twice I told you to get one they are not that expensive. Ebay or Amazon has them. 😎
I had a herniated disc with sciatica down the left leg with some nerve damage in 2011; so I know that pan. I was unable to walk and fell twice when I tried. But a year later with extensive PT and a TENS unit( ended up buying a unit on Amazon ) I was hiking, mountain biking and kayaking, snorkeling. I still had to PT my back here and there and continue to do periodically and watch how I’m lifting and bending. My knees are bad in the sand. Loved this episode and info! Will definitely check this out.
We both feel you on that back pain Dave. It can ruin a lot of fun. This was a really beautiful video you guys. We're bummed our wheels won't cross paths for a while. This is a West Coast year for us. Excited to see what all you guys get into and we'll have many stories to tell when we do meet up again. Take care both of you.
Watching Roodle play on the beach reminds me of an incident we had that I must share. Our dog (unknowingly) ingested so much sand playing ball on the beach it caused an intestinal blockage that was life threatening. Thankfully she's ok and still chasing that ball today! Be cautious everyone with your dogs and toys in the sand. We love Roodle, and the two of you too! As of this writing you are in Quartzite and we can't wait to see your next video. Keep up the great work!
Isn't it lovely there, we did a week there last year. We walked many miles up and down that beach and other small walking trails. Hope you feel better soon Dave.
I definitely can relate to the back spasms as I suffer with them as well. One wrong move or just sitting the wrong way will set them off. Glad you got to enjoy some of your trip despite what happened. Loved your video.
Truly enjoyed this video. Great choice of music. Is seems we all have a cross to bear. For Dave it’s his back for me it’s heart disease. I still thank God every day for the wonders I see.
I hate to see you hurting! My husband has back pain at times and it breaks my heart to see him struggle. I pray your back heals quickly and you are able to enjoy your trip on that beautiful island!!
We were camping there several years back on Memorial Day and we counted less than thirty people as far as we could see. Myrtle Beach it isn’t! I love it!
Beautiful! I am not too far behind along the coast of South Carolina heading north. Just might take the ferry over to the island. Glad Dave's back is on the mend. So sorry the soft beach sand hurt his back.
Love Ocracoke! There is a small campground called Bubby's on the other end of the island over by the old soldier cemetery. At least it was there a few years ago. Stayed with friends in their 37 foot class A. Also another one in the middle of town . Newer so don't have any information on it, sorry. Keep on keepin' on!
Hi guys! I met you on the ferry out to Hatteras, I was in the Honda Element with cheap blue kayak on top. I now have a cheap purple kayak that rides on top. Great video, thanks again for your USCG service. I am planning a 145 mile river trip on the Upper Missouri for August. Enjoy your travels, and have a blessed Resurrection Sunday tomorrow!
This is my favorite place to go in NC. Lived here 30 years. Ocracoke has a distinct subculture. I love to just walk the residential streets and look at the houses with the tiny family graveyards from the previous generations. Would you believe Ocracoke was on a list of probably nuclear test sites after WWII?
What a beautiful place to camp! Sorry to hear about Dave’s back, but sure glad he is feeling better. Love your videos! Thank you for taking us along with you! 💜 Another beautiful place to add to my adventures!!
So sorry about the back! I have been on two buoy tenders. I have toured the Sundew a few times over the years and been on the Mesquite a number of times. When I was on the Mesquite it was 90 feet underwater.
Thanks for the field trip and a little bit of History. Carry Your Tan is looking awesome, Dave I'll keep you in my highest thoughts and prayers that your back heal soon been there. Wishing you three safe travels
Our favorite place! We go in May or Sept on the beginning or end of the season. Even with people its very laidback. Golf carts have the right of way. Sorry about the back Dave. Mine does that every once in awhile. Hope youre better now.
We love watching your advantures. Sorry that Dave missed out on so much of this one! I also felt bad for you when you wanted to put your kayak or paddle board in the water until you saw the “No personal watercraft” sign. I found myself yelling at the TV . So sad that you did not do that, as a “personal water craft” is a jet ski or similar, as in the picture on that sign. You SO could have put your kayak in. It was beautiful there. Just felt the need to advise you to look up the meaning of that term so that you don’t pass up an opportunity like that in the future. Happy vanning, and I hope Dave gets better soon. I know his pain well! ❤
Really great video! Just found and subbed your channel. I live in NC and Ocracoke is my favorite place in the world. Selfishly, I'm always a little disappointed every time it makes national news as the best beaches in the country and the masses rush in. But I'm glad you got to see it unspoiled. Not sure exactly what kind of back problems Dave has, but I've had them all my life, and I found some specific things to stop the spasms for good. If you're interested, I can share that information with you. I found the information on Bod and Brad's PT channel. But the most important tnhing you can do is stretch, stretch, stretch. Not just 1-2 times a day, but all through the day and heat and a nice big stretch before bed. Happy travels! 💖💖
You were at one of my favorite places! It's also a great place to go deep sea fishing from. Many happy memories from there. Oh, and as always, I LOVE your photography!
Great looking place for a stay! I pray your doing better now Dave. We know what it’s like when you back gives you fits. We look forward to more great vids.
Glad Daves back is better. That’s a cool island. I can add that to my list too. I bet that place is jumping in the summer for sure. I could stay there for a couple days. I bet October would be a good time to go. Kids in school, off peak and the ocean is still warm 🤔 most stuff will still be open. Great video 👍🏼
I understand completely about hurting the back just by walking on the beach. I LOVE the beach, but after having rods put in my back, walking on the beach is a big no-no. After not having been to the beach until since surgery, I thought it would be nice to take a walk and feel the sand between my toes. It didn’t take me long to realize what a big mistake it was! Sure hope your back is feeling better by now. Safe travels.
Hey Guy's! Beautiful spot like always. Dave, you need to figure out a stretch or exercise for when you start feeling the pain. For myself, I lay down with my fists on either side of my lower spine and rock my hips. Do some research on where your pain starts and what stretches would be good for you. This can reduce how long you have to suffer. Good luck 😎
Was wondering if the ferry handles Motorhomes (27ft)....I did not see any at the campground on the Island either....Looks like a nice spot to spend about a week kicking back and maybe exploring the nearby town along with some beach time....It all would go good with a little state park i want to visit in N.C. called Jordan Lake ....Hope the back is all well next time we see you, Travel safe, be well...
Thank you! Yes, I think this is the only campground on the island. The ferry can easily handle a 27-footer. We saw a 53’ semi-trailer go on. I bet the little town is hoping during the busy season. 👍😀🐕🎾
Man having back trouble is no fun might just have to stay down for a while and that TENS machine does will help. They're not that expensive on Amazon. Beautiful video now you guys are ready for a cruise will watch roodle. Guess you heard Cannondale you lost a lot of their oak trees on their property just missed their house
Couldn't edit other message to include: are the Falken Wildpeak AT3W 225/75R16 115S ok for me to get even if I dont have sumo springs nor a lift on my van? Thanks again.
You both do a great job on your blog's. If ever in the Springfield IL area look us up would like to meet you. Have a place you could park and electric.😊
Great Video. Watching just before I break down everything for travel tomorrow. I'm off to Ohio for a week then home to Omaha for the summer. Get well soon Dave
When you get to Southeast Nova Scotia I think you will be surprised by the carribean-like white sandy beaches. The water is cold, but the beaches are beautiful. And very Dog Friendly.
So sorry you were suffering Dave. I used to work with a guy that had similar back stuff. He would take muscle relaxers at night, but couldn't take them during the day at work. That much did help however. I wonder why no one is there? Is it hurricane season?
Carrie , Did Verizon have service on Ocracoke. We are going next week . Your video made us pack up to go. Lol You should be recognized by the Ocracoke Chamber of Commerce.
I'm not sure that no personal watercraft included paddleboards or even regular boats for that matter, I think it was just for jetskis, but I could be wrong. Do you know if that 40 feet includes any towed vehicles or is it just the rig itself. I'm over 6 feet with my towed but my rig is only 37 or so feet. Keep the good stuff coming guys and give Roodle a cookie for me.
My first time to comment although I love your videos and look forward to each one. I obviously don't know the details of your back issue Dave but it sounds very much like sciatica to me. I've suffered with that on and off for years. Last year the disk ruptured, which was really bad. That made me do a LOT of research and I found a couple of exercises on RUclips that have changed my life. One is laying flat on my stomach and pushing up with my arms and the other is laying flat on my back, crossing one leg over the other and gently pulling back until I feel the stretch. They are both highly recommended on RUclips and easy to find. I usually do them at least 3 times a week and my back has been great since I started. I hope this is helpful.
Thank you for the exercise tips! I watched videos on both of those stretches and have been doing them most every day now. I am glad to hear they work! 👍😀 Much appreciated.
Does a kayak count as personal watercraft?? It seemed like they were saying small motorized skis, to me. I think actual boats and kayaks would be fine?
Hi Dave and Carrie, I know I saw a vid of you installing an externally vented heater (but can’t find it). Did you go with the separate diesel tank or direct gasoline heater? Are you happy with it over the Olympian/propane? It’s such a big decision. Currently using a buddy jr and an electric when (rarely) plugged in, but I want to spend more time in cold weather/high altitude.
It is beautiful here but sometimes the storms that we get here are just as terrifying as it is beautiful. You can be enamored by its beauty -- but the storms can be concerning too.
Dave my heat breaks for you about your back 😢 please take care of yourself!! Carrie, have you ever thought about selling your pictures? There are so many I would love to have! ❤ Thank you both for always sharing with us.
I found laying on a concrete floor on my back in the fetal position really really works well, you just kind of have to lay there until you get relaxed and you feel the tension go away in your back. It really does make a big difference relatively quickly.
Fyi, no personal watercraft refers to jetskis/waverunners etc. kayaks launch there all the time. Nice video of my favorite place on God’s earth. Thank you.
Ahh the great dilemma, Beach vs Mountains.
That's one of the nicest thing about living in Central North Carolina.
A couple hour drive to some of the best beaches ....
Then in the other direction a couple of hours to the tallest mountains East of the Rockies.
Roodle is Fritzie’s favorite TV star. Whenever the”Roodle Theme” comes on, he recognizes it and starts watching. It even wakes him up from a nap!
Carrie, you outdid yourself on this one. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! I loved it!!
I'm SO sorry Dave's back went out. I have that same problem about once every year or two so I can really empathize. Hope he healed up quickly.

LOVE the new intro!! Carrie's photo work is a joy to see! A consistent favorite nomad van life channel! Thanks to all 3 of you!
Your photos and videos are absolutely breath taking!!!! You really have a talent there. So sorry for your pain Dave. Back pain is No Joke, that's for sure.

Just loved the video!!! Hope Dave gets better soon!!! Blessings to you all and the Roodle!!!

You now have a summer and winter home, never grow up! Living the dream!!
We have a converted Chevy Express been traveling in it since 2013! ❤
Nice! It feels good to have your house with you every place you go. 👍😀

There were some interesting prints i the sand. Any idea what they were? Turtles perhaps?
So many good memories of Ocracoke with family beach time! No other place like it.
He is doing much better. He tried to vacuum the floor bending over with a hand vac.....NOPE...
One thing I included in my Vanbuild was a Grab Bar (Marine Salvage) over the Bed, which has been useful when my back bothers my.
Ocracoke is the best. I go yearly now from indy. Love all obx. Each island has its own special places
Lovely there. But I’m thinking a place in the mountains on a beautiful lake. Hope u are all better Dave. Sweet pics Carrie. Nice music.
Love Ocracoke! There is a small campground called Bubby's on the other end of the island over by the old soldier cemetery. At least it was there a few years ago. America The Beautiful...............thanks.
Beautiful spot. Thanks for taking us along.

The beautiful thing about van life is that you can pick and chose where you want to live to some degree. Thank you for another wonderful video.
So sorry about the back! I have been on two buoy tenders. I have toured the Sundew a few times over the years and been on the Mesquite a number of times. When I was on the Mesquite it was 90 feet underwater.

That’s great advice on 4x4 vans. The get really stuck there and on Assateague Island.
The journey to Ocracoke is over half the joy of the island ❤
International Dark Sky Park - Cherry Springs, PA ....🤔 Darkest sky on the East coast of USA
Our favorite place! We go in May or Sept on the beginning or end of the season. Even with people its very laidback. Golf carts have the right of way. Sorry about the back Dave. Mine does that every once in awhile. Hope youre better now.

You have a winter and a summer house already...a portable one. ; - ) Thanks for your video!
Going in May, I am more excited now…thanks. Hope Dave feels better real soon.
Such a beautiful video, thank you for sharing with us ❤😊
Dave. I'm really sorry about your back!!! I know how you feel. Walking on sand dunes on a beach in Oregon yes my back went out!!!! Be well!!!

You both do a great job on your blog's. If ever in the Springfield IL area look us up would like to meet you. Have a place you could park and electric.😊
Rooooodle 🤩😍!! feel better Dave!
Thank you! My backs getting better everyday. 👍😀🐕
Great Video. Watching just before I break down everything for travel tomorrow. I'm off to Ohio for a week then home to Omaha for the summer. Get well soon Dave
Thank you, Bob! Drive safe and keep an eye on the crazy weather. 👍😀
When you get to Southeast Nova Scotia I think you will be surprised by the carribean-like white sandy beaches. The water is cold, but the beaches are beautiful. And very Dog Friendly.
Right on! That sounds great. Does the gulf stream make it up that far in the summers? If so it might be warmer than the pacific. 👍😀
So sorry you were suffering Dave. I used to work with a guy that had similar back stuff. He would take muscle relaxers at night, but couldn't take them during the day at work. That much did help however. I wonder why no one is there? Is it hurricane season?
Dang! I hope your back is all better now, Dave.
Such a beautiful place. What time of year were you there? I was there this summer; it was crowded and got but still lovely.
Did you spend the night at Cedar Island resort? If you ever get a chance they have horseback riding on the beach AND you get to ride in the water.
Carrie , Did Verizon have service on Ocracoke. We are going next week . Your video made us pack up to go. Lol
You should be recognized by the Ocracoke Chamber of Commerce.
@@oneadVANtureatatime Delighted they help!
Good job with the videography
Does a kayak count as personal watercraft?? It seemed like they were saying small motorized skis, to me. I think actual boats and kayaks would be fine?
Your definition sounds right. In the coast guard a personal watercraft was anything under 13 feet with a motor.
@@oneadVANtureatatime hi, Dave, hope yer feeling better hon!
Your water video shots were fantastic!
Thank You! I really needed this video ❤ 🙂
+@chrishall5504 you are very welcome! Wouldn’t it be cool if the video had a transport button! You push it and magically appear at the location!
Subscribed from Durham NC. Great Vid!
What time of year was this adventure? So beautiful
I bet the storms can be brutal! Thank you for watching, Vivian. 👍😀
I’ve been wanting to go there!
Who did the song during the beach walk? It was beautiful.
Dave my heat breaks for you about your back 😢 please take care of yourself!! Carrie, have you ever thought about selling your pictures? There are so many I would love to have! ❤ Thank you both for always sharing with us.
Think she does calanders
How can I get a calender?
I found laying on a concrete floor on my back in the fetal position really really works well, you just kind of have to lay there until you get relaxed and you feel the tension go away in your back. It really does make a big difference relatively quickly.
Fyi, no personal watercraft refers to jetskis/waverunners etc. kayaks launch there all the time. Nice video of my favorite place on God’s earth. Thank you.
I lived there for 14 years and worked on the ferry
