And now have a new C43 coming this spring. I usually never comment on videos, but it is so nice to see someone who really gets it with the 35, 43, 45, and 53 series and does not rant about one man one engine or that it is not a V8. Raz, since I have owned 3 CLS 63s of previous version, let me answer your intro questions. The 2014 CLS63s cost me $129,000 CDN list price. The CLS53 with Inline 6 cyl price was $125,000 upon intro. A) I get an in-line 6 for same price as my 2014 63s with a hand built V8. b) looks like a dam CLA and like I really want to spend $125,000 for a look alike CLA, right? c) it lost the unique 4 seat configuration. Ok, what about a GT63s? That model, upon intro was $198,000 CDN $ ! A step up of nearly $75K !! That’s a free E class here in Canada. And to top it off, they offered the GT53 in a look alike GT63. Well that was the ultimate reason why I wouldn’t spend $198k for a car. Does that answer your questions ? They simply killed the CLS and to prove my point, the cars sales of both models failed miserably and are therefore discontinued. I with many other walked away.

    • @DanielSadjadian
      @DanielSadjadian 5 лет назад +2

      IronCurtainPrepper yes it can. It make a great replacement for any CLS63 owner. 4 doors, beautiful coupe shape, V8 performance and sound, luxurious interior, gorgeous exterior, etc....
      I’m well aware that it has been developed from ground up by AMG, that doesn’t mean it’s not practical and can’t be used everyday.

    • @DanielSadjadian
      @DanielSadjadian 5 лет назад +1

      IronCurtainPrepper it’s doesn’t have a long Hood? Lol you must be joking, have seen a GT 4 door in person, I assure you it has a long hood just like the 2 door GT.

    • @DanielSadjadian
      @DanielSadjadian 5 лет назад +2

      IronCurtainPrepper yes the GT 4 door is a very capable and sporty car, but so are pretty all of Mercs modern day AMGs. Gone are the days when AMGs were all about straight line speed, modern day AMGs design ethos is to make all their models capable both on road and on track. The same goes with the CLS and the E63S too, they both very capable on track. If you think the GT63S would make a bad replacement for the CLS63 because it’s too sporty then you’re wrong.

    • @DanielSadjadian
      @DanielSadjadian 5 лет назад

      @IronCurtainPrepper Ok I see your point now. CLS would have that front end too, if it went up to a 63 model. Same with the next gen E63, I bet it will inherit the Panamericana grille and large air intakes. Anyway we're all AMG fans, all these cars are great 👍

    You sneered at the "keyboard warriors" at 2:18, but, unfortunately, that question is still very much a valid one when the GT 53 and CLS 53 both exist...and is then compounded by the fact that the E53 sedan also exists; and they all exist in roughly the same space.
    Now of course, it's rather common for cars to share both platforms and engines, but at the end of the day: you have four different cars that are actually the same car, just light reskins of one another. And, I don't think AMG has done a great job at really differentiating these cars.
    And I'm not saying that capping the CLS at 53-strength was a bad idea; quite the opposite given that it'd create the same redundancies at the 63. But I do think the GT 4-door should have been V8-only to really lend some sort of credibility to the idea of being AMG's flagship model, something I think it lacks when it shares the engine from the "downmarket" E-and-CLS Class'.
    I think that all of the talk of CLS/GT 4-door and the MRA-platform AMG -53s epitomizes the increasing amount of clutter in AMG's lineup. You have "-35", "-43", and "-53" designations all serving an "entry level AMG" of some description and that's entirely too much (though I'm assuming the -43s are going to become -53s next go around).
    It reminds me a lot of when Chevy was slapping the "SS" badge on everything they made about 15 years ago...and that's not a good thing. Much like Chevy was then, AMG may be slicing the pie a bit too thinly.

    I personally believe that the reason for Mercedes to discontinue the CLS63 is because of the existence of E63. Plus that now they can charge more for the CLS63 by moving it up and call it the the AMG GT4. Yes I get that this is an in house car by AMG but still its similar to what the CLS63 used to be. Moreover, In some countries like China, which is Mercedes biggest market, cars like these with big displacement engines come with big import taxes. So asking someone to pay 200k USD for a CLS doesnt really look like a bargain. Now you can ask someone to pay 250k for a real 'AMG' car. it does look more premium as well.

    I love the CLS because all the other Mercedes have the same lights. They all look the same from the rear - the C, E & S. The CLS was alwys meant to be a standalone model. They don't make many of them. I have one and you barely see them on the road. I like the uniqueness

    The design of the cls is so confusing. The normal cls is one of the ugliest cars Mb ever created. But as a 53 it is absolutely stunning

      GermanCitizen the last gen cls looked amazing in all versions, especially with the facelift and in amg form (2015-2017 cls63s)

      Because Mb is forcing people to buy AMG .that's why base model is ugly.i think its intentional.

    Bit surprised you dissed the E53 Saloon. It’s almost as sleek, a bit cheaper and it has better space in the back.

    I own a CLS 53 AMG. For a daily drive it is truly a brilliant car. If you are looking for monster performance, you really need to look for an E63s or the new GT63s (last one in The Netherlands is very expensive. For example: my CLS 53 AMG, brand new, costs me €151k whereas the GT63s costs €240k, depending on your options). That is a whole other league. People are asking me why did I buy the CLS 53 AMG instead of the GT63s. Well... my budget wasn’t that much to afford a GT63s. People don’t know what they are talking about when it comes to money. 100k difference is alot!

      Congrats - same here. Daily driver for me - family man with 2 small kids. E63S was on my radar but design is like a taxi. Wife drives SUV. Here in US my fully loaded 2019 CLS53 AMG was $101k MSRP (before taxes). Why is it so much more in Holland? Only issue: 20" low profile tires are too harsh so the shitty roads here in NY and I will need to buy 4 sets of winter 18" or 19" ones now with wheels. I hope roads in Holland are better?

      Shekon Mirzza, Dutch taxes on cars are very high. That’s why the prices over here are abnormal...

    • @epicon6
      @epicon6 5 лет назад

      Big H The GT is a completely different car! It has nothing to do with this. It’s like saying there won’t be an E class facelift because the S class 2019 facelift. There are spyshots of a CLS63 too. The 53 is not even a real AMG.

    • @DanielSadjadian
      @DanielSadjadian 5 лет назад

      tompparaideri it still makes a good replacement for a CLS63 owner. And proportion wise, I don’t think the GT63S is much bigger than the new CLS, so it’s not like going from an E to and S lol

    • @epicon6
      @epicon6 5 лет назад

      Daniel Sadjadian It is still a completely different car though. Completely different design language.The AMG GT is not called CLS AMG GT 63S. And i don’t get what the problem is with making a CLS 63s. Has Mercedes officially said that they won’t make it? It took some time after the E43 came out for the E63s to come out. I don’t remember anyone saying then that Mercedes won’t make an E63s and recommend a completely different car.

    • @epicon6
      @epicon6 5 лет назад

      Daniel Sadjadian You are right that it is a good alternative but all i’m saying is that people who like the CLS design are waiting for the real hand built engine 63s version with real AMG performance parts and 600+ horsepower and it doesn’t make sense to just say to them: buy the AMG GT63s.
