Thanks again! Ive had reservations about all of these "tipped" handgun projectiles for a good long while. I once shot a good sized woodchuck with a 9mm critical defense at @20 yards and it zipped right through like a fmj. The bullet was lodged about 10" in the dirt behind him(his mound) and he darted back down the hole. The bullet looked almost exactly like those 2 after going through about 8" of woodchuck and 10" of dirt. I just dont think handguns generate enough velocity for these bullets to work as advertised.
I’d say leave the extreme outliers in because the extreme spread and standard deviation is part of the ammo’s performance as well. If it has an ES of over 100 fps then that also says something about the ammo, knowing if it’s a consistent or inconsistent performer goes a long way in carry ammo. It shows how much trust you can put into a box of it, or how little it should be trusted.

I'm back on what you were asking about the pistols you are using for the tests. One thing that I love about this channel is that you test ammo with a pistol that is the size of what so many people are carrying right now. And that you're showing that some of this ammo, doesn't perform, when fired from those length of barrels. Another good vibe that your channel gives, that some others do not. Some channels, it gives the impression that they're out there showing off their newest purchase, or showing off the guns in their collections. I mean, I don't give two shakes how an ammo is going to perform out of a $1500 2011. This would be a good load for a mil-spec browning highpower. The blueberry would allow reliable feeding in the hardball feedramped HP with better expansion than ball ammo.
I run a similar bullet out of my 1911 38 Super Auto +P. It is a Corbon 38 Super Auto +P 100gr Pow’RBall. The specs are: velocity: 1525fps Energy: 516ftlbs Test Barrel Length: 5.0 Inches. Hi TnT, Since you asked I think the "tools" should be kept as consistent as possible in your testing since it's the projectile performance we're interested in in the gel. It's important to eliminate as many variables as possible I think. Great channel that helped me decide upon a defense load out for my .40 PX4, 2 Liberty Civil Defense followed by a Sig V-Crown or Federal HST in a 17+1 configuration. Thanks a million friend.

I agree on removing results that seem way out of the spectrum of the rest. Thanks Tools I always look forward to your test! I hope you don’t mind me always calling you Tools. I know what your name is. but It seemed kinda accidental that it came out.
the cavity in the critical defense rounds are very deep. I wonder if they would clog without the insert. I can tell you they work better without the insert on bare gel in 45acp. they should perform as advertised and I shouldn't have to modify them. the ones I removed the insert from are the only ones I got full expansion out of. even then I wasn't hugely impressed. the wound channel was practically indistinguishable from the 7.62x25 hp rounds in the same block. the only way to really tell was to look at the entrance hole. the hp cut a hole, the 45's are larger obviously. I would add the 30cal stuff was 350fps slower than advertised. talk about being underpowered lol.
Allegiance ammo is a small company with an amazing owner that makes a wide range of munitions that seem similar in design from Power Strike to Silent strike it fancy and you should check them out they have a little “Berry” in the tip as well and are engineered for performance 🥳👌
As for the pistols that you use. My vote is for using what you think gives the best results for your tests. I'll admit a bit of mixing it up would be good. But in the end, it's up to what you think are giving you the best results. Thanks Brian.
Great to see your testing! As a resident of the garbage state of New Jersey I am required by law to NOT use hollow point style ammunition. So I am left with cartridges of this nature. Critical Defense is specifically listed by the New Jersey State Police as acceptable ammunition for usage in my carry firearm.
i have an idea for a .22 test, can you try filing a round nose mini-mag flat on the end? and put it up against a punch? i believe the only advantage the punch has is that its a flat nose, and doesn't tumble like the round nose does.
Tools I've been thinking. When you don't get much expansion but you get considerable disruption and good penetration what's the difference in effectiveness? After all a 55 grain ball ammo bullet in 5.56 tumbles but does not expand yet does a lot of damage. Curious. Well keep up the good work. It is much appreciated.
Low on velocity and expansion. Probably designed for barriers would be my guess. Haven’t tried any Nosler handgun ammo before. Thanks for the jelly test Tools,
Thanks for the test. Have you ever given any thought to doing a slow motion filming/posting in a video like this one, actually demonstrating that profound tumbling? Watching you point out the different aspects of the bullets journey throughout the analysis postmortem from the side view really got me thinking about that. Sure, that tumbling isn't necessarily what would be ideal in all (most) cases but seeing that damage as it's happening would be a curiousity revealed.
I'd love to if I had a fast enough high-speed camera. I'm limited to 240 fps currently and I can kinda cheat that and slow it down even more in editing, but then you lose frames and have very slim chances of actually being able to see the tumble. I need the slo-mo guys' camera budget.😆
Good test, Brian! Another that shows us what not to bother with! Bonded or not, the expansion was terrible, the tumbling isn't consistent enough to rely on and the only thing good was the penetration which wouldn't be as good if either had expanded. Certainly nothing to make me consider giving up my current EDC ammo even for a second. One could choose the Speer Gold Dot, the Fed,. HST or any number of other bullets that we know work before thinking of blueberries! The velocity was also much too low for a 124 gr bullet, which is probably why they don't actually work worth beans... or blueberries! Maybe that 24" barrel was the real deal? Sad that Nosler would even put their name on the box! Cheers, jc
at first I thought it had a nice wound track... That blueberry insert didn't release, might as well have clothing jammed in it, NEXT!! lol As far as using the same weapons every time? If you're comparing ammo directly, sure. for a pure test, I don't see how which firearms you fire it from makes a difference. Thanks for the video :)
It would be interesting to see how a bullet like this would expand with a side of pork ribs under the heavy clothing. I realise that it would be too expensive to test like that but just a thought, as always great test thanks.
You would think the louder and bigger the blast, the higher velocity because that means there's a larger gas pressure behind it, right? It's wild to me that sometimes we're seeing less kick and less volume rounds having higher energy down range. Edit: The only option I can think is maybe a slower burning powder that produces more noise after the bullet leaves the barrel.
Well…. For what those probably cost I thought they’d do better for sure. Not the worst but not the best either. I normally carry. 3.42” or a 4” so I know if you get good results from your shorty I’m good with either one I carry. Great test as always 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
enjoy your videos a lot. Here's a thought I have, your 3" and 4.5 " test is a great idea. How about also adding a PCC especially with 9mm loads see what a 16 " barrel will do.
Nosler is known for penetration like the partition bullets, maybe what's going on here where they want deep penetration with a little expansion, curious if a rib or bone you would hit in a defense situation just may cut back penetration with more expansion
@@ToolsandTargets John nosler rolling in his grave 😁, I know if he were alive he would improve that bullet, the guy who invented what you look for, getting lots of penetration but not sacrificing expansion, this blue bullet I think John would design tip to expand more, hopefully his son can carry on perfection John wanted and demanded from his bullets

I expected much better from Nosler. Appreciate you Tools. 🇺🇸
Yep. These blueberries aint ripe!😆
@@ToolsandTargets 🤣
Great to see your testing! As a resident of the garbage state of New Jersey I am required by law to NOT use hollow point style ammunition. So I am left with cartridges of this nature. Critical Defense is specifically listed by the New Jersey State Police as acceptable ammunition for usage in my carry firearm.
@ToolsandTargets8 Anytime!
i have an idea for a .22 test, can you try filing a round nose mini-mag flat on the end? and put it up against a punch? i believe the only advantage the punch has is that its a flat nose, and doesn't tumble like the round nose does.
Enjoyed the test Tools !
You should compare them to Fighto's Red Rocket Tips
🤣🤣🤣
Tools I've been thinking. When you don't get much expansion but you get considerable disruption and good penetration what's the difference in effectiveness? After all a 55 grain ball ammo bullet in 5.56 tumbles but does not expand yet does a lot of damage. Curious. Well keep up the good work. It is much appreciated.
Low on velocity and expansion. Probably designed for barriers would be my guess. Haven’t tried any Nosler handgun ammo before. Thanks for the jelly test Tools,
Another fine test brother tools. These ammo companies are making pitiful defensive ammo.
First time I’ve ever seen the Nosler pistol ammo…other than on their website, never seen it in any GS to date!
For the price of them I’d expect way more !
Consistency is good.
I would like to see some testing with a 5” and maybe squeeze in some carbine too, but that’s me.
There is also 10mm in blueberry tips lol If you wanted to give those a try , I think they are 165 grains. It’s like $40 ish for 20 rounds box
I wonder if the blue rubber plug is what's preventing these rounds from expanding. I've seen it happen before with Hornady ammo.
Cheers,
jc
Good video and information. Thanks for sharing 👍🇺🇸
Thank you sir.😎👊
at first I thought it had a nice wound track... That blueberry insert didn't release, might as well have clothing jammed in it, NEXT!! lol As far as using the same weapons every time? If you're comparing ammo directly, sure. for a pure test, I don't see how which firearms you fire it from makes a difference. Thanks for the video :)
True. 😎👊
Would love to see the norma 9mm. Maybe you have done it already?
It would be interesting to see how a bullet like this would expand with a side of pork ribs under the heavy clothing. I realise that it would be too expensive to test like that but just a thought, as always great test thanks.
You would think the louder and bigger the blast, the higher velocity because that means there's a larger gas pressure behind it, right? It's wild to me that sometimes we're seeing less kick and less volume rounds having higher energy down range. Edit: The only option I can think is maybe a slower burning powder that produces more noise after the bullet leaves the barrel.
Interesting, I think I will stick with Federal HST rounds in my EDC... but very cool testing... thanks for the review...
Hard to go wrong with HST.
Kind of a Booberry ! Must need a longer boobarrel ...
Happy Easter & dont slip and fall on yo kiester !
😂 Hoppy Easter!
Well…. For what those probably cost I thought they’d do better for sure. Not the worst but not the best either. I normally carry. 3.42” or a 4” so I know if you get good results from your shorty I’m good with either one I carry. Great test as always 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Another good ammo test
enjoy your videos a lot.
Possible
@@ToolsandTargets John nosler rolling in his grave 😁, I know if he were alive he would improve that bullet, the guy who invented what you look for, getting lots of penetration but not sacrificing expansion, this blue bullet I think John would design tip to expand more, hopefully his son can carry on perfection John wanted and demanded from his bullets
Try it with the 16inch barrel
Personally i carry a full size canik with a 5 inch barrel so both the tools you use are fine i would still like tosee some 6.8 spc testing though
You gonna get the TTI Canik?
@@ToolsandTargets more than likely I will I have all their other models just cause they are such great shooters and fit the hand very well I'm most interested in seeing how it stacks up against the combat elite for EDC
@@VroomNBoom Definitely gonna pick one up as soon as my local shop can get one. I love their stuff. I have a few cool ones I gotta get a video done on.
@ToolsandTargets can't wait to see it man you do great work for sure
I got some 45 nosler that makes me wonder now and want tested
You need to test the Federal HST 150 grain 9mm in your Jelly Test.
I see a lot of PCC's at the range and own some myself. The ones I see the most are Ruger PCC, the S&W FPC and a ton of Kel Tec. I assume most are 9mm with some .40 and 10mm thrown in. Mine are 9mm and 10mm.
I really do need to do some PCC tests. I have one in most calibers now.
Another great jelly test Brotha ..
Underwhelming round! Overwhelmingly great video once again!
You mentioned the old skool Glazer safety slug round. Whatever happened to those along with MagSafe rounds. They were all the rage back in the day! How do they stack up to modern day rounds and can you still find them?
You can still get them. I was gonna order some not long ago but got an email that someone was sending some so I held off. Haven't seen that package so I might go ahead and get some to try.
