I enjoy your videos, but as a Buddhist I have to say you do made a mistake with something. Is not that Buddhism proclaims that it takes billions of lives to become a Buddha, in fact enlightment can be achieve in one single life time (I think the minimal time according to most traditions is 21 days). Of course it can take several eons but there's nothing preventing someone to achieve it faster.
Here and on the nature of Buddha there are important differences between the Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions (as for example Mahayana believe that Buddha was already a Boddhisatva while Theravada don't, they believe he actually achieve Buddhahoor in one lifetime. I think Theravadas for example do not accept the Jakata tales a canonincal for this reason). Another different is that Tibetan Buddhism considers that there are always 6000 years between one Great Buddha (Tatagatha) and another which means that could not be billions of years between Gautama and Dipankara (however different schoold do handle different time periods between the two).

One crucial element to the Siddhartha Gautama origin story is that his parents received revelations that their son would become a great sage. So they purposefully kept Siddhartha sheltered and "in the dark" about the miseries of the world.

Sambridha Thapa it’s part of a much larger prophecy that exists as well, between every Buddha spawn there is a world empire that ruled by Chakravarti’s. A Chakravarti cannot exist at the same time a Buddha exists, hence why the King did not want his son to become a sage as he wanted his son to forge a World Empire as Atlas did with Poseidon’s Atlantis prior to the Younger Dryas Impact (10,000BCE) and as Ikshvaku did with Manu’s Surya Vamsa after (8000BCE-2000BCE). Younger Dryas Impact being a cataclysmic comet impact detailed in Gobekli Tepe inscription which created Meltwater Pulses that rose sea levels by 400’, submerging continents such as Azores (Atlantis), and Sundaland (Lemuria) while shrinking the coastlines (East US/West India). If you look on Google earth, every light blue area in the ocean was land before this impact.

In the story about Siddhartha being sheltered, he also is sheltered for a reason. His parents were told by a sage that their son will be either the greatest king, or the greatest monk.
His father was terrified of the prospect of his son leaving him, had ordered that all suffering was to be removed from the palace.

I think one of my favorite things about the Buddha's story is that he gave various teachers and paths a good go, but once he realized they weren't working for him, he tried something else instead of engaging in sunk cost fallacy. It's a good lesson about being self-aware enough to know that you have genuinely given something your best shot and it's okay to move on.

I grew up in Thailand, and the widely practiced version of Buddhism there is Theravada, which has been merged with Animism, meaning there is a strong belief in evil spirits that can harm humans, and many rituals to ward off or appease those spirits. Most houses around Chiang Mai where I grew up would have some kind of spirit house on a pillar or shrine where offerings would traditionally be made to spirits who may be around your home. It’s hard to say how much of the population of Thailand believes in the demonology side of this version, but over 90% of the country’s people identify as Theravada Buddhists, and beautiful temples ordained with depictions of the thinner, meditative Buddha can be found all over.

It’s very different from the ideas talked about in this video, and is more than anything a system for remembering one’s ancestors, especially your parents and grandparents. It's just the Tibetan Buddhism that has these supernatural elements. Buddhism in nepal, india(which can be regarded as purest form) do not have it for the most part where only supernatural elements implied are 1. Buddha's birth, 2. Prophecy of the chosen one and 3. Cycle of rebirth of all living beings(which is one of the fundamental aspect of Buddhism) and how Buddha can see past lives. There are no stories about Buddha doing miracles. There aren't even any festivals dedicated to the Buddha, so it definitely isn't a regular religion.

Then he will be what we called Buddha means there won't be anymore reincarnation. One God day is equal to 72 yrs of human being years. Let me clarify a few things as a Buddhist layman for everyone
    1. Buddhist devas differ from the western conception of gods and angels in several ways
    2. Buddhist devas are not immortal. Their lives as devas began some time in the past when they died and were reborn. They live for very long but finite periods of time, ranging from thousands to (at least) billions of years. When they pass away, they are reborn as some other sort of being, perhaps a different type of deva, perhaps a human or something else.
    3. Buddhist devas do not create or shape the world. They come into existence based upon their past karma and they are as much subject to the natural laws of cause and effect as any other being in the universe. They also have no role in the periodic dissolutions of worlds.
    4. Buddhist devas are not incarnations of a few archetypal deities or manifestations of a god. Nor are they merely symbols. They are considered to be, like humans, distinct individuals with their own personalities and paths in life.
    5. Buddhist devas are not omniscient or omnipotent. Their powers tend to be limited to their own worlds, and they rarely intervene in human affairs. When they do, it is generally by way of quiet advice rather than by physical intervention.
    6. Devas are also invisible to the human eye in Buddhist thought. The presence of a deva can be detected by those humans who have opened the "Divine eye", an extrasensory power often gained by high levels of meditation by which one can sense beings from other planes of existence. I can often tell when a man is bullshitting himself by claiming that he can ‘hear the Devas.’ I suggest whacking such a man with a rolled up magazine on the head and seeing how he responds, if he gets angry, he’s likely lying to you😂😂.
The idea that Buddhism is non-theistic is often just a western idea that people hold because they come out of the Abrahamic context. Although one can practice Buddhism without the ideas of theism, deva beliefs, or any other beliefs and the Kalama Sutta clearly says that everyone should examine all of their beliefs before accepting or rejecting them and not do so on mere traditions I am on the side of pragmatic acceptance of these ideas.
So is Buddhism theistic or non-theistic?
As Suzuki Roshi, a Jesuit who does zen was fond of saying, “not always so.” In quoting this, I am saying that it can be either. Don’t like Buddhists? Cool. Like us? Come try out some meditation and find some peace.
    Love and peace everyone ❤️🖤❤️

Now I believe that because all these years people exaggerated and beautified the life story of buddha. But I have no doubt in his teaching that said we all live in endless suffering. Buddha told that don't believe anything that because it was said by him or other people, or because that was in book. But use your mind to see the truth in every situation. Yes, and the fact that many Buddhists in colonized countries adapted/modified/reshaped their religion to be less "threatening" and more compatible with the "rational" and "scientific" world-view European colonizers in the 18th-20th century imagined themselves to have, in order to secure its continuation and avoid needless confrontations.

Good video, but I want to make one minor clarification. "Buddha" is not only "The Awakened One", but most importantly he's self-awakened so its really used most often in the context that he is the first and did not learn the awakening from a teacher. Otherwise the term "Arhat" is used for those who are awakened by way of the teachings of another.

"By peace he shall destroy many." I paraphrase.

That's great to hear ☺️. It is completely fine to follow the eight fold path this way. You do not have to take refuge in Buddhism to practice it. Buddha had actually given instructions on how non buddhist can practice Buddhism whether they believe in an almighty God or they are aethists. That's the good thing about Buddhism , it's a religion most of the time when it is absorbed by a native culture but a teaching simply as it is. Western society have a done a terrible act by calling it a religion tho.

Very solid and concise video. One small note that can help with the understanding of what a Buddha is: It is not enough to attain awakening to be a Buddha. A Buddha is one who attains awakening AND teaches. There are beings who attain enlightenment but never teach anyone what they've realized. They're known as Pratyekabuddha, or "solitary realizers".

He's also stated to 32 marks that represent him as a great man from birth to show all his efforts in past lives. The bump on his head and hair on his forehead are only two of these marks.

Thank you so much for making this video! I never thought I needed a non-biased analysis so much. I struggle to understand the logic behind the cycle of life, and it would never truly be answered now that you pointed out the historical gap. But I'm okay with that now, I already knew.
As a religion Buddhism actually helped me to think logically, keeping religious reasoning off my head, see beyond what people tell what is right and wrong, then prove anything through facts and first hand experience. Ehipassiko is my form of social ascension.
I wish nobody becomes blinded by their own religious beliefs, though... It can be sickening sometimes.

There is such a thing created by minds that is labeled with fancy words like “ religion”, and there is the truth practised and understood by oneself. You will understand the cycle of life as you go through life, if removing the blocks of “ life cycle is from when I was born to when I pass away”, that is just for your ID, try watching it as different states of consciousness

There is a reason for that. Alot of what people forget is That Prince Sidhartha(buddha) lived in what Biblical literature refers to as the Silent Years. No active prophets, Little to no Temples left from the old world that that actually functioned properly. Basically no spirituality or religious doctrines for him to build on when he himself became spiritually minded. Plese contact me about this on account of your empathy for his story shows that you understand the spiritual anguish and frustration he must have felt with little to no spirit in the world at the time. That is why the more I come to respect him as a person, the more I come to disrespect modern buddhism and vice versa. Considering the lack of example. Im suprised he gained the wisdom that he did. I think it worked for him mostly because his self-discovery was more driven from hatred for the wicked world and it's distractions thaan it was a love/seeking for something more out there. I respect that greatly.
