  • Do you ever find yourself thinking, "So Jake Eddy is one of the best bluegrass guitar players of our time, or whatever. Who cares? I want to know if he can play Arkansas Traveler on just one string." Well that is an oddly specific thought and this video is for you. Flatpicking is often relegated to just six string guitars but what about guitars with just 4 or 3 strings? We hope to fix that oversight today with this video.

dang. i'm a dude from finland, a very small and cold backwoods country in northern europe, that hasn't heard a lick of bluegrass until i saw this video. now i want to get an acoustic and dive deep into it.
this was single most awesome thing i've ever seen done on a guitar and you sir have very greatly inspired me as i am just about climbing out of that beginner phase of guitar playing
gonna play the next 30 years straight to be as awesome player as you are. your skill is seriously inspiring, thank you for that. you've gained a fan for sure! cheers mate, hope you're well.

Not only was he able to continually play the tune but his renditions were melodically interesting variations!

I was thinking the same. That kind of improv would have been impressive to me even with all the strings on the whole time!

"It's not the [strings] you play, it's the [strings] you don't play..."
As hilarious as this looks it actually seems like a phenomenal practice idea. 😂

Marcel is to Bluegrass what Steve Jobs was to the personal computer: He's incredibly brilliant, in his own rights, but has the skills to uncover genius and make it work for the masses. Marcel you are a different human...rare!!!

This isn't fair! The one interview you did with him where he was like, "Yeah I guess I play CAGED" and acting like he accidentally can play the guitar, and then does this. I think you have come up with a new game here that I think ALL PLAYERS need to go through. Can Jake be knocked off the mountain this just put him on? Dude is a LEGEND!

is it just me or is it not hard until you get to one string...we only jump from one string to the next so any more than two strings is irrelevant. unless you finger pick 3 strings at a time like banjo claw....as if he would not keep going even if it was less melodic and pleasing...if anything it forces unique ideas to get around the lack of options. cool video it gave me an idea to have six players with one string each to do a song sounding as close to one guitar as possible! try that one next!
