    Man, I'm 49 and have been around weapons since I was about 5. Joined the Navy Seabees in 87 and spent close to 2 years as a range coach/ instructor. Your cleaning technique goes way beyond any lessons or training I have ever had. HOWEVER! That was the best weapons cleaning even just basic maintenance that I have ever seen! You are 100% spot on. It is a tool nothing more nothing less. The gojo and water did make me cringe! But, I see and understand the point. Great job. Thank you.

      Eh, the SW370-BU-MMI-010 calls for knocking down shiny spots with an abrasive loaded cloth and coating with Lubribond 220. A film lubricant on the slide after rubbing it down should be the same thing.

      Just curious about what the downside of having a magnetized pistol or rifle would be?...i could see if there were completely free, non spring loaded parts or safety plungers that relived on pure gravity or something, but i don't own anything that has a single part that isn't precision spring loaded for the safety parts that gravity does play a part in, BUT being magnetized would just make the safeties even more effective 🤨....lol im just curious now if anybody can give a really solid example of any modern pistol or rifle that a magnetized part or two (even if it was STRONGLY magnetized purposely lets say) would cause any sort of malfunction? 🤔...i love my magnetic parts trays and holders in storage (the magnetic pistol holders permanently magnetize the whole damn pistol they're so strong and i haven't ever encountered any malfunctions or irregular parts wear/breakage in 3 years of using them 🤷‍♂️... Am I just lucky?) Thanks guys!

    Use tungsten disulfide (Ws2)! Dry powder, slipperiest thing on the planet, sheds carbon, bonds to metal by rubbing it on, doesn't attract dirt, doesn't come off, withstands 100,000 lbs. of force, eliminates wear. I run my guns dry with NO problems or signs of wear. Better than oil (oil attracts dirt) but if you are worried of what I say, Ws2 also blends well with oil and can be used together. I've been using it in my car's engine oil for 12 years and the engine is like brand new (no wear!!). Nasa uses Tungsten disulfide (Ws2) on the Mars rover. Great for guns! I use a short bristle 1/4 in. paint brush and a q tip to rub it on.

      to each there own but 9/10 if a dremel is involved your doing something you shouldnt be doing to your gun.
      a dremel can be used efficiently to initially polish an unpolished chamber/ramp but after that (if done right) it should be easy to get 100% clean by hand.

They are your tools clean them the way you know. Yes in the military we over clean for the reason that we get the weapon systems very dirty and drag them through dirt all the time so thats why we clean so heavily and frequently. But your right in over cleaning because it will cause more wear and tear than normal

    Before the era of polymer guns, I'd boil the excess debris out of them. Then I'd put them in the dish rack and they'd dry quickly because of the heat. Then I'd use WD-40 to displace any residual water. Wipe it down, use good gun oil, and done!

  • @RZRKuntry

    Many old timers will use ivory soap and hot water to clean old school muzzleloaders. They will hang it to dry and coat the barrell. Water is taboo if it isn't wiped off, sprayed off, or allowed to properly dry. For pistols, gun oil and bore solvent is all I've ever used. But the cleaning gives me a few ideas to try and see if overall performance/ease of use is there.

    From what I understand is that some youtubers say there is 2 types of cleaning and oiling. One for EDC and the other other for storage.. how long of a time frame would be considered for storage? Would 1 to 2 weeks consider long enough for storage? Or is this whole idea just non sense and I should clean the way I would normally

      WD-40 will certainly displace the water (hence, the name "Water Displacer 40"), but it's not a lubricant. WD-40 should always be followed by a proper lubricant, especially on moving parts.

    Mickey, great tips! I don’t have a compressor...could you use the canned spray that you use for dusting computer parts, or is there something in the propellant that would damage the gun?

    • @joebenson528
      @joebenson528 3 года назад +1

      Yes, it's 100% safe! I use canned air when I'm travelling and don't have a compressor handy. The propellants/chemicals are flammable* but, even if the can sprays out liquid it will dry almost instantly like rubbing alcohol (which is a safe solvent for factory gun finishes).
      My rule of thumb is: If it's safe to use on my Ryzen 5 5600x CPU that regularly runs at 70-75 degrees Celsius (3 times the flash point of alcohol vapors), then it's safe for a firearm.
