You can also try clear medical tape - the kind that has built-in ridges. I have found it especially helpful for small template rulers where I'm making cuts in more than one direction. It's an inexpensive solution and it's available at many stores in the bandage section.
I got a suction grip from Harbor Freight for less than $9. Same idea, alternate use. Well worth the minimal investment. So many quilting supplies for a lot cheaper from this hardware store. :)
For my weight on my long rule I have an antique iron that is very heavy and it works great! Thanks for your advice, I’m still going to look for those grip stickers
Good tips! I have one of these suction cup shower grab bars at home I am not using (because mine don't stick to my bathroom tiles) that I was going to donate. Now I think I will use it for the acrylic rulers. : )
For a suction ruler handle go to the bath tub section of your hardware store. They are sold there as tub assist handles and were cheaper than as a quilting tool and were cheaper!
I use a Mason jar full of marbles. Added hot glue to bottom of jar so it doesn't slip. I also use tunafish cans to hold fabric (like baby bibs) when cutting them. The cans are unopened!
i keep a strip of non skid shelving. I just cut about a 1"x 12-18". You can place it anywhere. You can cut if shorter if you want. Don't need that much and so inexpensive. A 3 foot strip at the grocery or dept store is about $1.50-2
Omnigrid also makes a range of non-slip rulers called Omnigrip. They work great! Just be sure to double check they're Omnigrip not Omnigrid (it's only one letter different, so easy to confuse if not paying attention). The Omnigrip rulers have neon green markings whereas the Omnigrid ones have yellow.
Thanks for the tips!! I have autoimmune arthritis and rotary cutting can be very painful. Anything that allows me not to push down so hard is a plus for my wrist!
I tried the rubbery grip dots on my ruler. They work too well for me. You have to place your ruler in exactly the right spot the first time or it's difficult to pick it up to place it correctly.

Yes! Medical tape is a great option!
I’ve been using that and it works great. My long arm quilter suggested it.
The tape is a plastic tape made by 3M called Transpore and it does work really well.
All of my rulers have this. I love it!
Great tip !
I used the adhesive grips used for the soles of shoes cut into dime sized circles. They work great and they've never worn out after a decade of use.

I found a tile grout float which has a foam backing and a handle that works great as a handle. I found it for less than $5 at the hardware store.
Stripology ruler all the way. Bought the XL .... worth EVERY PENNY
We had a shower handle that just wouldn’t last on the shower wall. I put it on my ruler and it’s fabulous as a fuller handle.

I have an antique iron also and it works really well...also nice decor from my sewing room!
Oh my gosh yes! My ruler slips every time. Thanks for the tips.
Your tips work for paper crafting as well. Thank you.😊

I totally agree!
I use a handweight when cutting WOF strips. Thanks for sharing

Excellent ideas! Thank you for your video.

There are rotary cutters for arthritic hands. I put one on my Amazon wish list and hubby bought it for me.
I use Hugo's Amazing Tape, which is very low profile, can be cut to size, come in many widths, and is very inexpensive. 😊
I bought shower handles from Amazon that are the same as the more expensive ruler grips
I ordered Odif grippy nonslip spray for my rulers. I haven’t used it yet but I have high hopes.
I'll have to try that!
I’ve used this on ALL my rulers - this works great! Sure beats buying my fav rulers Quilters Select for their backing

Obrigada pelos conselhos 😊
Great tips!
I bought my suction handle from harbor fright in town which was a lot cheaper than other places.
Great tip!
Drops of hot glue placed on variou areas of your ruler also helps and it comes off easily when needed!
I must be doing something wrong. Twice, I've opened a new rotary cutter and on about the third cut, my cuts are not complete. 😢
You can get a hand tool exactly like the expensive "quilt ruler gripping tool" at Harbor Freight. Much less expensive and does the exact same job. 😉
Great tip! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for these helpful hints.❤
A 5 lb weight works great!
I spray with a grippy spray.
Is it easy to clean off the ruler when it starts to get fibers, etc., on it?
It isn't sticky at all, so no fibers stick. It kind of fades away over time. Then you just spray again. It is unique and makes it less slippery.
I have used the ruler glue, but yeah, you do have to wash it off rather quickly or it becomes quite difficult to remove.
Try a slide lock rulers. I never slip anymore.
Those look awesome! I’ll have to give one a try
Silicone dots or a line on your ruler. Silicone...the stuff in a tube....caulk.
I use the little sand paper dots you buy in Quilt shops or Amazon
Sandpaper works good, too.
You can get Creative Grids rulers and forget all the rest.
I use the adhesive grips, and my ruler still slips.
