  • On the 400th anniversary of William Byrd's passing, The Mancunium Consort prepare for a concert celebrating his life and work.     Very fine. Unusual to see just 4 singers in what is after all a 4-part motet. I wonder if this makes it more authentic sounding? Byrd would not have expected it to be sung by large cathedral choirs.....

    This was almost certainly written for tbe secret masses held by the community and probably sung by just four singers

    Wonderful piece and very fine rendition. Just one remark: be more careful about the right latin pronounce, "in crucem" not "in crusem"😉.

    I like your pared back rendition with just four singers, as it would mostly have been sung.
    But you appear to be using classical Latin pronunciations and not Church/Ecclesiastical Latin.
    Hence, "cruce" should be pronounced 'cruchay' and "dulcis" should be pronounced 'dulchis'.
