80 Class OK for a nostalgia trip but half time the heating didn't work in them and you could get a foundering. And having to reach out the window to open the door was a headache too. My Dad worked for NIR so I was on them plenty. At least the 450s had electric doors. The late Mervyn Connolly could work miracles with NIR engines. I think he slipped them some of his whisky! 😁
Thanks Matty. This video is one of the most amazing and informative on the net, I take my hat off to you. I keep coming back and rewatching parts of the video. One comment about the Railbus, it was used mainly between Coleraine and Portrush during the winter months. I have a few good photos of it in action, must scan them. Had no ideo about the 70s Class engines being put into 450 class units. The only info I ever heard was about the asbestos and them all being burried in a quarry in Crumlin I think. Oh and I have some 70 class colour sound footage taken from Super 8 to add soon. Thanks again Matty. You are AMAZING - TRULY AMAZING. Irish train fans across the world are absolutely indebted to you.
Just a wee question for you! I've seen some videos of you trainspotting in railway depots, would I have permission to do so if I were to? If I do how do I get in?
Almost 3k subscribers!! It really is hard to believe 50 years! Can’t wait for the Glider to come into service! I feel Translink are really starting to climb back up again, great video Mattew😃
Thanks now days Irish rail has a decent fleet but its not as good as it used to be. Before NIR's cafs arrived I do think NIR was alot better with the thumpers running
70 class was my fav...…...river bush, river foyle, river roe, river lagan, river maine, river inver, river braid and river bann
