Great job and excellent video! I just started to take apart the same Westinghouse fan. It was still working a few years ago but the old wires had disintegrated to a dangerous state. Inside the switch housing they were worse. Your video has inspired me and now have started taking it apart and will order the wiring kit shortly. I've had the fan 50 years and money can't buy how quiet this fan is. I'm so happy to find your video! Thank you!!
Yooo. I just found one with a serial # that starts with 620. That means it was made June 1920. The wires were in goood shape, but it only hummed when I turned it on. So, I took it apart, cleaned, and lubed it up. Now it runs like a champ! I'm glad I didn't have to do everything you did!!!
I know this video is a year old now... I just found it in my watch later file. This is "hands down" my favourite rebuild of yours to date😃 How is your arm treating you? Take care Edit Sincerely like the history you add at the end of the video and in the description.
OK now I feel old. I was looking for a video of my great-grandma's old fan like this to show someone because my cat sounds exactly like it. I had one of the gray 1960s models when I was a kid, but I ended up inheriting this one with the cloth cord, and I used it for a while because it was cool looking and it had a great sound. The sound of summer.
I have the same model fan and just bought the same wiring kit. I am trying to avoid doing the same thing as you did to get to the motor wiring. I want to connect to the motors old wiring. There is three wires. What wire goes to what wire on the replacement cord?? I also want to know what wire goes to what wire in the fans base. I appreciate any help. I do not want to connect the wrong wires.
I have an old desk fan almost identical to that without the oscillation. I bought it and I fixed several problems and restored it and it ran perfectly for several years and all of sudden started making a lot of noise and the only thing I can figure out is the friction bearings are worn out in it. Any idea if I can find bearings? I don't think I have the equipment to make bearings for it unless I can use common tools to make them.
Is this a Westy model 321347? If so I just acquired one and was wondering if it was worth the trouble to restore? Looks a lot more difficult than other old fans to restore.
Absolutely excellent restoration 😊
Skilled and patient work to restore this old fan so it can again blow all of the papers off someone's desk. Excellent!

Can you tell me how you were able to feed the new 3 18gauge cloth wire through the “cord keeper”? You have it shown at 27:41
