I love that concept, I've only ever seen it in one other supplement by Tarcisio Lucas. Instead of Mythic serving as the GM for a solo player, it's as easy for it to be the players for a "solo" GM, making it easy to play through published modules without having to worry about "what would I as the player know?" and how to deal with in character/out of character knowledge. I'm looking forward to trying it this way.
@@vladtheinhaler146Mythic GM Emulator 2E can instead be used as a Player emulator. Instead of asking about everything, you can ask how a player character will act. You can do both at the same time, if that's what you're into.
I bought the first Mythic GME due to your videos on it. I bought the GME 2E as soon as I saw it on Drivehtru RPG! So... at least two sales made from your channel!
This is one of the best products money can buy. I created stories with this tool that kept me up at night. It really works wonderfully and is a blast. 10/10
Purchased this PDF a few days ago... sight unseen. Rolling on the Fate Chart, at a Chaos Factor of 6, it seemed that it would be a "certain" thing for it to be as good -or- better than its predecessor. Turns out... the Fate Chart was correct. All joking aside... Thank you for doing what you do!
I just gotten through the first 180 pages or so, and I'm impressed by it. There is a LOT in there, but what I find most impressive is the clarity and care taken in explaining the Mythic system. I've had the first edition blue book for years, but I remember struggling with the concepts of the system when I first got it. The second edition book does a good job to go over things in great detail. This will hopefully make it easier for the next generation of Solo RPers to get into using the system. It is also quite satisfying to see a lot of suggestions and advise printed in there that I myself would/could/have given in the past (I'm not saying those are my words, I'm saying I'm pleased to have come to a similar conclusion as the author. AKA I must be doing something right.) So, yeah, guess I'll have to update my game now XD
Trevor, at 32:55, you gave the exact reason why they didn't use the eagles in the first place! They are unreliable due to suddenly falling dead. Great content! Thank you for this review. Also I feel like the Tome of Adventure design is more for prep as a GM, and this feels like on the spot generation. (I would not use ToAD as on the spot generation, it's too detailed and large.)
I bought it as soon as it was released. If nothing else Tanya deserves our support for being the Queen of Solo RPGs. Mythic was pretty much the first tool and almost every other solo game uses the concepts it introduced.
Thank you so much for posting this video review! 🙏 It's nice to see a video on something other than what's currently the most popular topic amongst virtually all content creators. 👍
Love love the Mythic system - went and bought a couple of magazines too which are so helpful. We've been playing Ironsworn lately and also loving the narrative system in that. Played a Delve tonight solo, searching through an old abandoned military complex (our game is set in the future, post-apocalyptic) With the descripotions and rolls which were coming up, was getting described like the old Stargate complex from the TV show. It's funny how those rolls work sometimes. :)
One of the BEST additions in my opinion is the Fate Check which you can use in place of the chart where after you ask a question and determine your odds you roll 2D10s and add them together then modify based on your odds and current chaos factor to give your result. It's alot faster honestly and perfect for games where you want to keep the story going with minimal slowdown.
I, unfortunately, didn't get a chance to join live due to time differences. Eager to hear your thoughts! Thanks for taking the time to edit and upload it, Trevor!
Been getting the mythic magazines as they come out, been holding off getting the GME since I knew a 2nd edition was coming in the not to distant future... was a nice surprise to get the notification it was out. I've played some solo ironsworn, starforged, and a solo module for mothership rpg... excited to try mythic finally. I've found the magazines quite inspirational so far.
I think Mythic GME 2E is great for new people. If anyone wants to buy Mythic without having ever done Solo RPGs. This is the book to buy. But if you've already got Mythic and all the supplements it's not really of much use. The wording is much clearer in 2e which is nice. And I like that it takes ideas from other supplements but it's not something I'm going to be going out of my way to find a physical version of, personally.
" But if you've already got Mythic and all the supplements it's not really of much use. " At least part of the value is having it all in one place - especially since a lot of the new stuff is from Mythic Magazine, now 25 issues in...
Wonderful overview! Thank for for that! I'm like you, I either forget I have other books of random tables to flesh out my scenes or I lose momentum trying to hunt through them. Having all those extra descriptor, object, etc tables in the Mythic book is outstanding! Tana had said there was very little different about the core system, so I was a bit on the fence about getting this edition. But the addition of those extra options (and the size of the font on the Fate table, tbh) has pushed me to get it.
I've basically been using the "no chaos" variant as i don't take time to perform the upkeep portion of scenes. I try using the Chaos Factor, but just fail to use it or maintain it. i just update my lists as things happen and just keep things moving. And i have trouble managing threads so i am excited about the Mythic2 guidance on using them.
One thing I never understood about Chaos Factor is are there guidelines for framing your questions? For example, if the Chaos Factor is high a "yes" answer is more likely. You come across a bear cave. "Is momma bear home?" and "Is momma bear away?" are both questions and at high chaos factor BOTH could be more likely... it just depends how you ask. So, how do you make it consistent and valid? Thanks! Hope someone notices the ping on an old video. :)
I appreciate this is a late reply, but the book suggests wording the question in an "active" way, so yes answers are more interesting/dramatic. If the player is trying to find shelter in the cave, it's probably more interesting to ask "Is momma bear home?" because this introduces a complication, whereas if the player is actively trying to find this bear then "Is the bear away?" might be a more interesting twist. High chaos makes yes more likely while low chaos makes no more likely, so this approach to questions means that periods of low chaos have less moments of drama, too.
Yeah! I'm getting fired up for this. Got to get into this. I got some tools bought already, but don't know exactly what kind of universe I would use. One that is already super popular, or one that I come up myself?
Would love to see an app for this GME containing all the information/table/oracle/etc. Would be really powerful and exceptionally valuable in speeding up its usage in actual play.
Well the pdf almost works like a app since it is linked. You only need the oracle shart, the random event table and the overview over all the meaning tables which are linked and only a click away. Use it for a few sessions and it becomes second nature.
I had been playing around with RPG solo's web based tool and they had this cool thing where you could get yes and nose, but you could also get "no, but..." or "no, and..." (And same for yes). I'm wondering if the exceptional results accomplish the same thing, or are they meant for different purposes?
Confession I bought Mythic 1e but never used it. Just didn't click with my brain. I like the new table. Agree it didn't really need all the other categories.
I have the 1st edition but when I found Ironsworn Mythic kind of just went bleh. This new edition looks good. I like random/theme tables so it might be worth it to me. Also, great using a Tolkien reference since all this contemporary RPG shenanigans got it's start in that style of fantasy...which is why we have Halflings, but not Hobbits because TSR couldn't use Hobbits in their rules for a board game...shit...wow...history really does repeat itself.
I rather enjoyed the goofy artwork from the first. It didn’t show more than a bathing suit and was never realistic enough to illicit any type of thoughts anyway. Ppl get too uptight about the human body. The very idea of something being taboo makes it deviant. Remove the taboo label and nobody cares. It’s a body. We all have one and should be proud of it. 🤷♂️
Great Job!
Thanks!
My favorite thing about Mythic is how it can also be used to simulate players to test out adventure ideas.

Rolling under/above the small numbers is extreme modification. So yes and & no and where you double down on the yes/no.
Does this book incorporate Mythic Role Playing (the one which had a red cover), or is there going to be 2nd edition of that too?
it's the same or slightly different from the version of the rules they use for the deck version of the orical I like the change 😁

Just curious, I am new to Mythic, but was wondering if this is good for games like Call of Cthulhu?
Works with pretty much any RPG. CoC uses percentile dice too, so you don't even need extra dice for it.
