    It's crazy how Lego still hasn't made the Fantastic Four (despite the fact that they can reuse the torso for three of the team members), Silver Surfer, Professor X and the majority of the X-Men, Mystique, Slealth Suit Captain America, Ronin, Smart Hulk, Kang, Stan Lee, and wide release versions of the Symbiote Suit and Jean Grey, keeping mind the fact that these are all prominent MAIN CHARACTERS. But hey, at least we got Venomized Green Goblin right?

      Yeah, that figure leaves a LOT to be desired. I also kinda don't like the shade of green they went with-it's way too bright, in my opinion. I think it should be a little darker to look more like the movie. As it is, between the bright green, lack of arm/leg printing, and lack of a hood or helmet, it just looks weirdly cheap.
      You'd think they'd want to spend more time on a set based on one of the highest-grossing films of all time and make the minifigs as quality as possible so that more people would go out to buy it, right?

    it’s so strange to me that lego won’t make more comic sets, when the superhero theme started the sets were based on the videos games lego were making and the comic look and style really suits the lego style the bright colors and unique characters really suit lego
    now i feel everything must tie into a new movie release or a show on Disney+ and to me personally something about the modern mcu designs aren’t fun to look at as a mini-figure maybe i’m just nostalgic but i feel this is a major reason we haven’t got the fantastic four or other beloved characters that don’t get a lot of love in the movies

    One other thing that bothers me about LEGO Marvel's minifigures are the GLARING lack of comic book characters, which I also think would help your point about reusing characters as often as possible.
    Think about Iron Man for example. The MCU has SO many different versions of Iron Man that while there's sure to be some overlap, there are just way too many versions to keep up with and you have to worry about putting the right one into the right sets. Can't have the Bleeding Edge suit in an Avengers 1 set. Meanwhile, if they were to make a few of the suits from the comics and make more comic focused sets, they'd be able to tell more stories with the same minifigure. Same goes even more so for characters with fewer or no major costume changes. Perfect the design once, you can reuse it for a long time.
    I'm honestly just SICK of seeing MCU characters, only getting a few others like Spider-Man villains or the occasional set like the overpriced X-Men jet. I'd honestly take a Marvel Comics CMF at this point

      Same with DC both themes started off or had an additional comic book theme to go alongside it's movie tie ins but both narrowed in on the tie in sets and abandoned the comic sets we used to get a lot of DC superheroes now it's literally just Batman. Marvel did sets based of the Disney XD shows now it's just Spider-Man and the MCU even then they've backtracked to older MCU titles and make like 1 or 3 sets on the movies all of the phase 4-5 movies somehow Eternals got a full dedicated set wave.

    I'll never understand why Lego didn't capitalize on the renewed interest of Teen Titans (through Teen Titans Go) with sets outside of Dimensions. In a perfect world, they could've released sets with figure designs that could work as both their Original Animated Series and their Go counterparts. That way they can release 4+ sets referencing Go and appeal to kids, and also have playscale/D2C sets about the comics/original animated series and appease the hardcore fans while also saving budget for more unique figs (some figs like Starfire might need alternate accesories between versions but you get the point)

    • @PenPlays
      @PenPlays  2 месяца назад +14

      There was so much that LEGO chose to capitalize on that didn’t do much for them, at the same time they chose not to capitalize on things that would. The whole of LEGO DC is one of missed opportunities IMO

    • @satansshadow218
      @satansshadow218 2 месяца назад +4

      Yes, they don't really seize opportunities. Like when a dc movie comes out and is bad, they tend to avoid making sets of it. Ignoring a potential increased interest in some of the characters. E.g. Black Adam and Shazam 2 were bad movies but Black Adam and the Shazam family would be superb figures so they could've made a set with those characters but not connected to the film.

That set is also the only villain set of the wave, and the most expensive at around $100, and half of this waves heroes are exclusive to that set. What fair survey they made.

    Sry, but saying the Budget wasnt high enough for more or more detailed figs is not a valid reason with todays prices, I dont believe the designers. CMF figs, aka the peak of detail on a fig are 4 bucks each, even with licenses. In the case of the X Jet, the build is not more than 40$, so even if it had cmf quality figs we would still be only at 56$ and yet, the actual price with bad quality figs is 85!!!

    I’m new to LEGO marvel but I was genuinely shocked when I saw the amount of figures that lacked leg printing. I mean almost all LEGO Star Wars figures have leg printing on some level nowadays. It honestly makes LEGO Star Wars look like they’re doing an amazing job when they really aren’t most times

    Cmfs are the way to go if they choose characters wisely. The DC cmfs especially gave us characters that wouldn’t appear in Lego form otherwise. I hope both marvel and dc can return to how they were from 2014-18: sets centered around iconic characters that also included figures from the greater worlds of the properties

    Superheroes and supervillains I want to see? Ooo let's see.
    - The Fantastic Four is at number one, but we do have the movie next year and Lego will be forced to finally make them. (And hopefully Silver Surfer as well)
    - Gambit, Professor X, Juggernaut, Mystique, and a new version of Jean Grey.
    - A Ryan Reynolds suit for Deadpool, would make for a good exlcusive in the rumoured X-Mansion set like how Daredevil, Blade, and Punisher were exclusive to the Daily Bugle
    - Kingpin, Mr. Negative, and The Prowler
    For DC I've got a few as well
    - Hush, Mad Hatter, Mr. Zsasz, Peacemaker (Hush, Zsasz, ans Peacemaker could be Punisher-style exclusives in a D2C Arkham Asylum set)
    - Doctor Fate and Black Adam (the movie sucked but the characters are still cool looking)
    - King Shark

    I really wish DC gave more love and made a bigger effort to push Blue Beetle (the movie) last year because at the very least, even if we got him in a set ONCE apparently it isn't someone we see as frequently. But the movie even has a big robot beetle they ride into battle called the Bug, and that just feels incredibly marketable and it's insane they didn't even try to even put out toys, let alone lego sets.
    If they wanna keep milking Batman, throw in Kite Man (hell yeah!).

    Lego is neglecting hard core comic book fans by refusing to make sets around important moments in the comics. Die hard comic fans would be interested in a Busiek’s avengers run avengers mansion. They’d be interested in a Claremont era X mansion, or a micro scale Krakoa done like that one hog warts Castle that was micro scale. There are so many iconic moments that Lego doesn’t try to get license for despite there being a market for it

    Two things:
    1. Do we know for certain that the budget is split between Marvel and DC? Superheroes as a moniker has been dropped for years at least as far as branding goes.
    2. “Honestly, the standard has been set. If it works, they might as well go for it, right?” Kinda. Spider-Man is the number one minifigure, and specifically that version, is the one I have the most and it “works” to a degree. It’s definitely arm printing, but as far as LEGO standards I feel it’s in the same plane as Commander Fox. It’s a print that NEEDS a second coat of the print. Especially when box art renders falsely show the printing as being identical color matches. While I totally understand you can’t replicate that type of color accuracy perfectly as you can on a screen, they could at least try with a second coat!

    • @PenPlays
      @PenPlays  2 месяца назад

      You make a very strong point about Spidey’s arms. Especially since they won’t be attached to anything else, there’s no reason for them not to go for another printing layer to get the job done.
      And yes, the designers have gone as far to say that the “Super Heroes theme” of both franchises still exists and is indeed the same budget

  • @WarChiefAJD

    Frankly it’s nuts that with all the superhero movies still releasing they so often decide to skip a movie entirely. It got real bad with the later DCEU movies as they made nothing post-WW84 even though movies like Black Adam and The Flash had so much potential for sets (regardless of movie quality). Not to mention all the spider-man sets that just keep reusing the same figures with no variation when there’s a whole spider-verse of characters they could tap into more like they were a few years ago before they decided to just have Peter, Miles, or Gwen in every set and hardly change their designs (like we can’t get a Gwenom figure in a wave of Venomized villains?).

    I'd like Lego to make a *_GOOD_* Venom figure. If taking from Sony, then the size of Venom isn't an exaggeration of size, and Venom is actually that big, and as such, should use a Big-Fig. If taking from Marvel, then Venom should still be able to tower over Spider-Man, but maybe make any host-showing bit conform to the size of the Big-Fig.
    Also, show the body and face of the host occasionally through maybe a removable face bit if you aren't going to use the LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 Venom Big-Fig anyway.
    And also atleast have hand printing on the Big-Figs of Venom. The hand squares are iconic, and I don't want them to be lost for no good reason.

    It's a dangerous to ask what minifigs I want cause both Marvel and DC have a chunk of my favs absent. I'm a huge comic fan, and so many have been in the games and I could probably think of sets for all of them. I'm just so starving. Like off the top of my head:
    DC: KId Flash/Impulse, Kyle Rayner, Wonder Girl, Donna Troy, a green Poison Ivy, Midnighter and Apollo, Jimmy Olsen, more Legion of Superheroes (they've made two), Oracle, Aqualad, Batgirl (Cass), Captain Marvel Jr, Doctor Fate, Booster Gold and Ted Kord, Animal Man, Static, Jon Kent, Mr Terrific, Hawk and Dove, Big Barda, Hourman, Creeper, Zatanna, Arsenal, Vertigo, Steel, the Ray, the Atom etc.
    Marvel: literally any X-Men besides the ones already (and everyone besides CMF Wolverine and Deadpool can use improvements), The F4, Kaine Parker, improved Nova, big fig Venom, black-suit Spidey, Wonder Man, Quasar, Quicksilver (actually, a lot of non-MCU versions of characters), Hercules, New Warriors, Wiccan and Hulkling, Agent Anti-Venom, Amadeus Cho, Runaways, Viv Vision, Black Knight, Nighthawk, Darkhawk, Captain Britain, The Power Pack, Hellcat.

    yeah i can't believe lego went out- MADE MODELS OF THE FANTASTIC 4, AND THE X MEN, for their first marvel game, and then didn't think to make sets? Like, HUH? IT'S ALL RIGHT HERE! The fact that FANS have to hand make semi-accurate recreations is CRIMINAL. Also LEGO needs to bring back comic book themed sets, y'all know that one captain america set where his costume is super saturated and clearly based off the comics, same with the red hulk vs hulk set? AAAAAnd that one iron man set? And I'm pretty sure i remember one with Thor too? Let's like-keep doing that? Please? I want OG comic book antman with a chrome helmet, thanks. I want to see a comic accurate Hawkeye (WHICH IS ANOTHER MODEL USED IN LEGO GAMES, BY THE WAYYY.) Hell lego marvel superhero's 2 made so many characters have comic accurate models that not reopening just the basic Marvel series to focus less on saturated versions of movie outfits and more on real comic ones and using all the models and textures from Lego marvel superheros 2 is just throwing away money. Like, I also don't get why LEGO seems to be afraid of copyright that they can't receive? Sure we can't have the x-men in an MCU based set because they're owned by fox and yaddi yadda, but Marvel still owns the rights to those characters, LEGO can throw out an X-Men set series based off comics or movies and no copyright can be held against them for it, give me comic book quicksilver, give me iceman, give me collosus god dangit!

    Man, as a minifig fan first and foremost, LEGO DC was *fantastic* in 2014-2016. It had so much variety, and they actually dared to have sets that (gasp) didn't have Batman!
    Even up until 2019-ish, we still got a pretty good selection of more obscure characters... but these last few years have REALLY been bleak. I like the new Batman cowl piece, I really do, but I'd much rather have literally anything else. DC has so much to pull from that they just aren't, like that one Tower of Fate set that was rumored recently but never happened.
    Meanwhile, LEGO Marvel is getting quantity over quality, and I feel like that's yanking so much of the Super Heroes budget that DC gets the breadcrumbs. Marvel's taking the entire blanket and DC's shivering on the other side of the bed... not to say Marvel's doing great, it's not, but it just feels like DC's getting *nothing* right now.
