    Late to the game here but great review! Bought a Bass X on Black Friday special through St Croux factory store and caught a largemouth on Christmas Eve on it. Solid performing rod, no regrets

    I commented too soon earlier. I am trying to decided between an omen black 3 7’3” kayak rod in MH and the bass X and was leaning towards the 13 because I love my other omen and this competitor review portion just made my decision for me.

    It’s crazy the quality of rods you can get for 100-150 these days. I have a 7’1” medium,fast casting version of the older model. Been really wanting to get a shorter medium-heavy rod and was looking at getting the 6’6” MH version of the new bass x. Good video, really enjoyed the input

    Glad to see they finally took some of the finish off and made a lighter rod. st croix have always been tip heavy for my tastes and I hate thatttt. I was looking for a lighter rod so am trying an edge delta 803. i do custom rods too and made a rainshadow rx10 which is phenomenal.

      Thank you for watching the video. I have been meaning to purchase an Edge Rod since it is also a “G Loomis rod’ 😂. They had a fantastic sale on those deltas last year. I actually want a Black Widow though. Congrats on your custom ride business. For the prices of most of these rods, custom building‘s were the alternative. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

    Really really great video/review! You were so spot on with emphasizing rod balance. I own the 2020 Bass X, I loved the look, was excited to use it but immediately noticed how tip heavy it was. Slowly stopped using it because of that and made me hesitant with the Bass X line but that’s what I get for ordering it online without physically holding it! Happy to hear it’s been corrected.

    On the spinning rod St. Croix seems to be moving towards a handle aimed at people that choke up on the reels. If you look at the Victory line up specifically it is more clear. It was designed to be best held with the stem of the reel between the ring and pinky fingers or between the ring and middle fingers. I have even heard some St. Croix employees confirm this.

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  2 года назад +1

      First, thanks for watching the video. Second, I had not heard of the information you’re sharing. That’s a terrific problem to address. I have always felt the reel seat was too high on most rods generally. This would definitely give anglers who choke higher on the rod more power on the hookset than we have enjoyed previously. Thanks for the info! 👏🏿👏🏿🪄💫

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  2 года назад

      Very true! I believe St. Croix is leaning a bit too hard on their catch phrase "the best rods on earth" more than they should. That said, this may at least be better quality than their previous version. Thanks for watching. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

    I agree completely on buying lower end gear from higher end manufacturers. The only time I have was with a st. Croix mojo and it broke on the first 1lb fish. It was strung up correctly according to specs too. On top of that they where only going to warranty it for their cost,lol. I had the receipt from the day before. So that's a no go on st. Croix for me. I will buy rods from high end manufacturers in thier middle grade tier first though. If you can't impress me with those, why spend big money with them.

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  2 года назад

      Well said! That is a good idea to start in the middle of their range of rods. I’m so glad to hear that you have that receipt. As you probably know their cost is nothing compared to your retail price. 😂. Thank you for watching the video. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

    Bass X 6.6 medium heavy is one of the most sensitive tip I have just bought today light, strong and sensitive. Tried Eyecon, mojo all of Croix rods all lack of sensitivity compared to Bass X 2021

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  2 года назад

      Agreed! I believe St. Croix produced a very impressive Rod in the $100-$150 range. As I expected, the mojo bass rod is being relegated to inshore applications. Thank you very much for your comment. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  2 года назад

      If they did (at least for the fresh water models) the Mojo yak would be a direct competitor to the BassX and potentially the new Victory. I hope that they actually find a practical place in the lineup for Mojo. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

    Hello and good evening Malik, Merry Christmas to you and your family. This is Dwayne Generette, a new subscriber to your channel. Recently we shared comments on the new 2021 bass x spinning rod. I suggested you look into Ark rods. You said you had your eye on the Ark lancer pro 7"1 med. Im reaching out to let you know that rod is now on sale at TW for $69. Great great buy for that rod. Its usually $99. Check it out when you can. Take care my friend !

    Balance is critical. The reason I stay away from the ugly stick series is because the balance is trash. I live the overall useability of ugly stick, but can't fish with it all day. Currently my favorite is cadence for budget rods. You should check them out. Get the higher end casting and spinning tough. CB and CR 7 I think.

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  2 года назад

      Agreed on the balance of a rod. Ugly Stik and I have fond memories. I have several PB's on them over my 40 years of fishing with them. I still have a few of them in my primary Rod arsenal. That said, I will be looking into the cadence as you suggest. Thanks for watching the video. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

    Just got one to pair with my tatula went to tighten down the reel and felt like it was cross threaded made few casts was ok then went to rip my crank bait out some weeds and the reel came off went to tighten it back up and the fabric was completely ripped junk

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  Год назад +1

      Oh wow! That is terrible. Are you within the window to return and/or exchange it? If you are able to exchange it for a different rod, try the 13 Fishing omen series rod. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

  • @pruthvi333
    @pruthvi333 Год назад

    I bought BassX MH and put Pflueger President 30 on it. My issue with the rod is it doesn’t seem to be gripping/locking the reel. It slips if I tighten it (and I don’t think I am over tightening it). Matter of fact, the reel fell off when I was fishing. I am not sure if the reel is too big or if it is a rod issue. Thinking of returning it and getting 13 Fishing Omen Gold. Any thoughts?

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  Год назад

      I am hearing that some of the BassX rods are having that problem. If you can switch to the 13 Fishing Omen, then please do so. It is a better rod in every way we assess rod quality. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

    Wish companies stop putting light colors on rods. It makes them look like toys. Just like a hunter would want their guns to look like serious hunting equipment, also to blend in to the environment, I want my rods to look like serious equipment not like a nerf gun.

    Rod balance is the most important criteria at all when purchasing a rod. Tip heavy rods will tear you down immediately and you won‘t have fun fishing it. So it’s always key to combine appropriately with the reel although some rods will never balance well. St. Croix has a bit a reputation for tip heavy rods…

    • @familybudgetfisherman
      @familybudgetfisherman  2 года назад

      Very true! There are some retailers, who sale high end rods, who suggest we do NOT take rod balance seriously. I was astounded to hear them say it and record it. I have always been suspicious of St. Croix despite their popularity. I hope my concerns will be abated. As Always, I appreciate your comments and continued support of the channel. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

      Oh yes, stainless steel guides generally have a "less than stellar" history with braided lines. I've never held, owned, or used a $500-$1000 rod and probably will never so i'm ok using $100 rods.

      Please forgive the length of my reply to your comment. I hope it was seen as respectful and thorough.
      I find it interesting that you choose to post This comment on this video rather than anyone of the many videos of rods I have discussed that are well under $100 on this channel. If you have watched this channel for more than a month, you will see me promote rods that are $69 $89, and $99. My favorite rod happens to be the $49 Ugly Stik (elite). I have enjoyed the ugly stick since the first one was for sale in 1976. They have been in my rod arsenal ever since that year.
      I have also done an exposé on one of my most recent favorite Rod series called the Defy series rod by 13 fishing. At that time it was a $59 rod. If you take a look at my rod and reel arsenals in 2019, 2020, and 2021 you might notice more than half of the rods are “lower end” rods.
      Yes rods today have a upper end and a lower end, but that has to do with technological advance not because of absolute quality. I have set in past videos that rods today that are considered low him just 10 years ago would be considered upper end.
      I invite you to become more acquainted with this channel. My purpose is to show people how to analyze and purchase the best quality rod for their family budget not necessarily to analyze whether they would ever use a $500-$1000 rod.
      I hope and pray that the rods you do own provide for you the best fishing experiences you could ever enjoy.
