And when you sweep aside the false narratives in the media even the, "catholic media" about what Pope Francis says that's exactly what he has been doing but every statement & publication is distorted and the corrections & complaints from the Vatican are ignored . It's difficult to find criticism from within the Church itself that isn't against a phony version from the media or indeed generated by schismatic - "more Catholic than the magisterium , the Pope and Christ's promises of the guidance through them"- groups and individuals whose egos grant themselves primacy.
This is where I get my Catholic news: The National Catholic Register, Our Sunday Visitor (OSV), The Catholic Thing (online) The Catholic Loop (online) EWTN especially The World Over with Raymond Arroyo. Where do you look for Catholic news? God bless you!
Obviously he (Sheen) can no longer answer / defend this himself. But if you read and know more about his life and works, you will find that he was a great evangeliser and wanted to bring the Gospel to everyone. And that was the "optimism" of the vision of V2 - the "renewal" was meant to be a new "springtime", a sweeping away of the cobwebs. However, like the darnel sown among wheat in the gospels, so the devil comes along and sows poison. The *actual* wordings of V2 did not talk about drastic changes, dilution and dumbing down the faith, and much less the destruction of the liturgy. But somewhere along the line, all that came in. As Pope Benedict XVI said, there was Vatican II, and a "spirit" of Vatican II that further "interpreted" and implemented all sorts of stuff - from a watered down Mass to pop music to "who am I to judge" to effeminate gays in seminary. I don't think Bsp Sheen could have seen any of that. He was going by the actual wording of the texts of V2.
@@veredictum4503 Thank you for that considered opinion. I am reading a book right now that echoes much of your sentiments. It is called RECLAIMING VATICAN II by Fr. Blake Britton. I highly recommend it and I think you would enjoy it. God bless you.
I honestly thought he said Pope Frances. I made an honest mistake. I was away volunteering at a Catholic Camp and just got back. I will post something about this. God bless you and your loved ones.
The Venerable Fulton Sheen absolutely DOES NOT predict Pope Francis. He says toward the end of the video, “from the rigidity of excommunication to the patient bearing of offenses” and NOT “to the patient bearing of Pope Frances.” Replay it and you’ll hear it clearly. You may want to consider changing the title of your video…
@@kylewoodworth9685 Bp. Sheen embraced the phoney heretical Vatican 2 council, and went on to set up a model Novus Ordo parish. Bergoglio is a heretic and apostate- a destroyer of the Catholic religion
When I posted the Sheen video, I honestly thought Bishop Sheen said, "Pope Francis". That was my initial thought when I first listened to the video. I like Mr. Buckley and I enjoy reading Sheen, so I wanted to see this interview. Once I thought I heard "Pope Francis", I encouraged a few others to listen to it. My brother thought it was dubbed. It is not. My sister in law heard Pope Francis probably because I suggested it. My wife also heard Pope Francis, again, it was probably the power of suggestion. My bother asked me why Buckley didn't pick up on it and I didn't pay enough attention to that. I dismissed him by saying that Buckley missed it. I consider Sheen, although a flawed individual like the rest of us, capable of having mystical experiences. I have read many of Sheen's books. His autobiography TREASURES IN CLAY is, for me a great read. Anyway, I thought Sheen had a mystical experience and was given a gift to see into the future and he had anticipated Pope Francis and let it slip during the interview. I do believe that individuals such as Padre Pio and St. Faustina have been given the ability to glimpse the future. I thought perhaps Sheen had been given this gift but he never shared it with someone. There are people in this world who experience God in supernatural ways and nobody ever knows it. Like the frugal person who dies and leaves millions to some charity, not all spiritual people reveal their encounters with god. They live lives of silent mysticism. Anyway it was an honest mistake. I left for Ireland at the end of June to volunteer at a Catholic camp in Ireland called Camp Veritas. Then I took the family to Knock, we hiked along St. Declan's Way and up into Donegal. @@thecatholicCatholic Thank you for your explanation. A couple of points: it IS legitimate, AND worthy of cynicism, to question whether or not "clickbait" is applicable, as deception is part of the broader media tactic today. Pragmatism is/can be a virtue, and one can't be too careful in exploring truth. I've no doubt that many ARE praying for Bergoglio, as that is our Catholic duty. However, it does NOT mean we have to follow his world view course, unless it be a statement of infallibility. Christ said, and He IS infallible, to apply the litmus truth test..."by the fruit of the tree shall ye know them...". One doesn't have to be blind freddy to see the damage and corruption of both morals, and teachings, that were soundly established by greater Church Father's than the present "pope" to know that they are being eroded. Such perversion was foretold via Vatican 2. The undeniable truth then is that Bergoglio, and those who spread the same modernist message, IS a destroyer, allowed by God to punish us for our desertion of Him. Finally, we are a militant church; it is our duty to defend it, in exactly the same way Jesus defended His Fathers' House against the stall holders etc. To NOT do so, is a failure on our part!

@@thecatholicCatholic Thank you, but I have no need to be gaslighted by modernist's, no matter how well intentioned they purport to be, and the traditional way of our forefather's. Christ handed down His predilection, for His people, through His Apostles, Saints, Martyrs, Scholars, ordinates and eminent Popes, over the centuries. In connection with vat2, I'll quote but one example of dire warnings by a Pope; Pope St. Pius X, in is his encyclical letter, "Our Apostolic Mandate", of August 25, 1910, when he said that, he detected "a great movement of apostasy being organized in every country, for the establishment of a One World Church, which will have neither dogmas, nor hierarchy . . . under the pretext of freedom and human dignity." There are many such warnings. The most significant would be Our Lady at La Salette who said, on September 19, 1846, "Rome would lose the Faith and become the seat of the antichrist . . . The Church will be in eclipse." And God loves you too.

In the book, "Catholic Prophecy", Yves Dupont having studied the writings of many holy personages down the history of the Church comes to the same conclusion, the Church is saved by the faithful laity etc.
I don't think priests are destroying it. Most priests are good and holy men. However those that have committed the most despicable acts have no doubt harmed the church. God bless you.
Yes, I should read this book. Thanks for brining it to my attention. I think the faithful laity are , at least in the USA rising to meet the challenges. I was recently in Ireland and the folks I met there admire all the lay movements here in the USA. Thanks and God bless you.
Interesting that in 1970, Bishop Sheen was talking about a Church that in its newfound patience and kindness, excommunicates fewer people. Meanwhile today's Church is anything but patient and kind, having robbed us of our inheritance, now excommunicating its best priests and most faithful traditional Catholics.
You can be primarily concerned with understanding emotions or understanding the truth. Emotions are supposed to yield to truth not truth to emotions, otherwise we become God and madness ensues. When the church primarily attempted to be "understanding" of worldly emotions it ceased to be primarily understanding of truth or those who were wanting to do so, which is to say God, who is the truth.
I think we can excuse Bishop Sheen for not having the hindsight we have today. I think if he were resurrected and living today (2024) he would say he was wrong. But there is one point he could have been corrected on even in 1970. It's the idea that Vatican I didn't have bishops from around the world because the Church did not relate to the world.. If there were international flights of aircraft when Vatican I was taking place, you can be sure you would have seen bishops from Africa, Asia, and so forth. That is the reason why they weren't there.
My friend, try this book: Reclaiming Vatican II What It (Really) Said, What It Means, and How It Calls Us to Renew the Church by Fr. Blake Britton It was the interpretation of Vatican II that was wrong not the assembly itself. God bless you.
I have heard the same thing since the 1990s.I used to be a big reform of the reform person. There was no real " reform" IMO,just a deconstructing and reconstructing along Protestant friendly lines. Not only was the mass radially changed but also the Divine office and all the sacraments.I cant see the rationale for an institution to jettison its own patrimony like that. Its like rewriting and editing War and Peace to make it more easy to understand and then passing it off as the same novel.
@@ref6122I agree with much of what you said but it was the postconciliar implementation in the spirit of Vatican II, not the Council itself that reformed the Mass, Liturgy, Holy Office etc. Very important to keep in mind.
all due respect to the good archbishop, I think he had idealistic hopes about the council, but I think by the time he died, he saw the writing on the wall of the wolf and sheep’s clothing. The preconciliar church was not a nightmare to be fixed. It did not require a council to make a tiny adjustments. The interviewer is right.
@EasternChristian333 You are the ones who have separated yourself from the Rock which is Peter. And look where it has led you - more divisions, more inconsistencies and more schisms. You cannot even agree on what books constitute Scripture. You are divided doctrinally, Orthodoxy is unable to provide a unified teaching on even contraception or accepting converts from other denominations (rebaptism or just chrismation?). Where are your historical Patriarchates? Constantinople, Jerusalem, Antioch and Alexandria are suffering under the thumb of unbelievers - did not God allowed enemies of Israel to rule over them when they were in sin? The Ecumenical Patriarch is a refugee in Greece, and less than 1% of the Orthodox remain in Constantinople. The new Patriarchates are no better, the Patriarchate of Moscow and All Russia is less a Church and more an agent's nest and propaganda mouthpiece of the regime. The historical weaknesses of Orthodoxy and its caesaropapism still tie your hands. I hope that one day the Church on earth will become one, but this will not happen until the Romans and Greeks realize their mistakes - and there are a lot of them on your side too.
@EasternChristian333 I could take your claim a bit more seriously if I didn't see that the Orthodox websites and Orthodox people I find only misrepresent or misunderstand the Catholic position, especially on those points that allegedly separate us, and seem trained to respond with distrust and even accusations of deceitful intent from Catholics who try to present the view we are actually taught, which is in some cases identical or nearly so to the Orthodox position.
By what criteria do you decide what councils are canonical and which are not? If the magesterium of the Church accepts them, it seems logical that we must as well.
Well said. I have to agree. It seems that the problem is not in the Council itself but in the interpretation of the council, what came after the council was what was wrong.
God bless you. As I said to someone, I don't think the council was at fault but the interpretation following the council that went too far. Let's pray for each other.
When you listen, it sounds as if Bishop Sheen mentions Pope Francis. It is still up because I want people to hear about Divine Mercy. If I take it down my channel may lose what little views it gets. I intend to take it down after one year, when those videos don't matter as much. God bless you.
Perhaps the interpretation it was a failure. Try this book:Reclaiming Vatican II What It (Really) Said, What It Means, and How It Calls Us to Renew the Church by Fr. Blake Britton God bless you.
@@thecatholicCatholic thank you Father. But shouldn't Catholic doctrine always be clearly expressed?; i.e. "Let your yes be yes and your no be no". If the documents of Vatican II were not riddled with ambiguity, there would be no need for "interpretation". Further, I have read that it was the stated purpose of the authors to purposefully insert ambiguous phrases into the documents knowing later how those phrases would be interpreted. This has been referred to as "weaponized ambiguity". To me the whole undertaking smacks of modernism, as described in "Pascendi Dominici Gregis".
@@ChristopherMarlowe Your basic premise is correct. I agree with you there. I have not read the documents of Vatican II just what others have said about them. I am going to read the book that I suggested to you and read some of the documents. You are right, ambiguous phrases lead to any interpretation, that is why words are so important. Thanks for the insight. Thoughtful responses are appreciated. God bless you!
@@thecatholicCatholic I pray for him, but I'm not at all sure he's a pope. I pray that the Church will recover from the damage that he and the six preceding him have done.
@@johnnytoronto1066 Continue to pray. Try the book. Reclaiming Vatican II by Fr. Britton. He has also done some interviews, so you can check those out. Here is a description of the book. God bless you and your family. Pray for me! During the past five decades, the Second Vatican Council has been alternately celebrated or maligned for its supposed break with tradition and embrace of the modern world. But what if we’ve gotten it all wrong? Have Catholics-both those who embrace the spirit of Vatican II and those who regard it with suspicion-misunderstood what the council was really about? Fr. Blake Britton discovered the truth and beauty of the council while he was in seminary and he has witnessed firsthand the power of its teachings in the life of his own parish. In Reclaiming Vatican II-a partnership between Ave Maria Press and Word on Fire Catholic Ministries-Britton presses beyond the political narrative foisted upon the post-conciliar Church and contends that Vatican II was neither conservative nor liberal, but something much more beautiful and challenging. Britton clears up misconceptions about the council and reveals how-when properly understood and applied-it fosters a richer experience of being in the Church. Britton says Vatican II promotes a radical return to the Church Fathers and the Scriptures, holding both a commitment to tradition and the need for constant renewal in life-giving balance, recenters the Church on sacred liturgy and encourages both active participation and genuine encounter with transcendence, and charts a clear path for the Church’s renewal and empowers it for evangelism and transformative engagement with the world. Britton invites all Catholics to step beyond the polarization and embrace Vatican II as one of our greatest resources for being in the Church in a way that is faithful, engaged, and effective if we answer its radical call to worship and renewal.
It was not my intention to have a conversation about the merits of Pope Francis or Vatican II. Some of you may know that Padre Pio was unjustly criticized by someone in the Vatican and this resulted in many years when Padre Pio could not hear confession or say public Mass. Eventually In 1933, Pope Pius XI ordered a reversal of the ban on Pio's public celebration of Mass, arguing, "I have not been badly disposed toward Padre Pio, but I have been badly informed." In 1934, the friar was again allowed to hear confessions. (Wikipedia) Throughout all of this time and until his death in the late sixties, Padre Pio would never say a bad word about the Pope or the Church he loved. HEY GUYS, PLEASE WAIT a second before you do what I, and many other ppl normally do, which is scroll passed a comment while saying to yourself: "NOPE! Not gonna read THIS one, it's way too long." (C'mon, be honest here. A huge percentage of readers do that. LoL 😂) All kidding aside, this is a very "quick read" which I'm sure 90 or more % of us occasionally ask ourselves, even tho we already know the answers.) So I suppose I'm just letting off some steam here😤. Only 2 questions regarding the titles of some RUclips clips. So, without further adieu: (#1) WHY would a person who has their own RUclips channel, ( and obviously has the potential to reach thousands, even millions of people,) choose to name their site: "The catholic Catholic," with which 'real' Catholic readers would probably assume has good, "legit" Catholic content, WHY would they CLICKBAIT us, and (#2) HOW could 'real' Catholics continue to keep their subscriptions once they've watched some of "The catholic Catholic's" videos and REALIZED that the titles are CLICKBAIT?? I simply cannot believe this site has 587 ignorant subscribers. In this video, Venerable Fulton Sheen NEVER says the words "Pope Francis." So, here's a question for YOU, "catholic Catholic." WHY haven't you taken down this video once you've 'learned' that those words were never said? Shame on you.

Instead of publicly bashing Pope Francis we should perhaps pray for him and our Church. There are many things in our Church that I am not happy about or I am disappointed about but my public mocking and arguing will change nothing. Change lies in prayer. I love the Catholic Church and prayer, is a good way to love others. Please let us not bash the Holy Father on this RUclips station. There are other places for that. Instead let us continue to pray for Pope Francis and our church. Another thread in the conversation was about the Orthodox Church. Our Orthodox brothers and sisters are brothers and sisters in Christ. Trying to win an argument about churches and who is right and who is wrong I think misses the point. We should unite in prayer and service to Jesus Christ. The world needs Christ and instead of arguing with each other, we should spend our talents, energies and time, doing good for others and praying for others. Let' agree to pray for each other. The answer is to love one another. Love the person in front of you. Love the person you are communicating with. Even in the midst of mistakes, God works. He can be found everywhere.
Pope Francis is the most "rigid," to use his siilly word, pope in history with his rigid hatred of Catholic doctrine, his denial of immutable truth, and his belief that God is subordinate to His creation as Francis portays him as in the process of learning how to be a good God from HIs own creation. Francis also has no mercy for the victims of sin with his perverse ideas of "evolving" morality.
Please do not speak of the Pope in a bad way. I understand your frustration but it is better that we pray for our Pope and the Church. We will accomplish more this way. God bless you.
@@thecatholicCatholic We can't ignore his very crimes against humanity in the process. His actions have directly supported abortion and the muder and persecution of Catholics in Communist countries. His victims matter, and they should matter to everyone. False mercy kills.
To this very misinformed person ,calling Pope Francis rigid .please study the documents very thoroughly and also pray profoundly to the Holy Spirit that you may be enlightened and deeply comprehend what this great Holy Father is teaching and truly stipulating, also be very careful what you say because you could be in a very deep state of mortal sin against the Holy Spirit,as the Spirit is guiding this church.

To the demons are strong within you. What do you know about me? Nothing. Your judgemental sin is now public. Many cobgratulations on your lack of judgement, not to mention lack of sense.
To Ryan, Take a course in church history & dogmatics. It should be obvious to you that I have. However by the sounds of your closed mind & miopic vision, not sure it would help. I do not wish to continue this with you. You've already made up your mind, & it appears closed. Blessings to you.
My friend, try this book:Reclaiming Vatican II What It (Really) Said, What It Means, and How It Calls Us to Renew the Church by Fr. Blake Britton IT was the interpretation of Vatican II that was erroneous, not Vatican II itself. God bless you.
It is one thing to be compassionate towards sinners. It is another thing to fail to correct the sinner and bring him to Christ.
Agree. Admonishing the sinner was (and should still be considered) a spiritual work of mercy

Sheen was a diehard defender of Vatican II. The fatuous optimism of the 1960s had tragic consequences for the Church

@@karlheven8328 Hi, I am not sure what you mean. Can you explain? Thank you. God loves you!

You are correct. Thank you and God bless you.

Bishop Sheen clearly said "patient bearing of offenses" and he did not say "Pope Francis."
When I posted the Sheen video, I honestly thought Bishop Sheen said, "Pope Francis". That was my initial thought when I first listened to the video.
@@nifty1940 Thank you for your insights. They are valuable. I am reading a book called RECLAIMING VATICAN II. by Fr. Blake Britton.
Pius X, in is his encyclical letter, "Our Apostolic Mandate", of August 25, 1910, when he said that, he detected "a great movement of apostasy being organized in every country, for the establishment of a One World Church, which will have neither dogmas, nor hierarchy . . . under the pretext of freedom and human dignity."
There are many such warnings. The most significant would be Our Lady at La Salette who said, on September 19, 1846, "Rome would lose the Faith and become the seat of the antichrist . . . The Church will be in eclipse."
And God loves you too.

He also said. "The laity will save the church"
In the book, "Catholic Prophecy", Yves Dupont having studied the writings of many holy personages down the history of the Church comes to the same conclusion, the Church is saved by the faithful laity etc.
The laity better save the church. The priests are destroying it.
Yes, and this seems to be happening here in the USA. God bless you.
An interesting insight. God loves you.
An interesting insight, God loves you.
That is an excellent point! Thanks and God bless you.
Its amazing to see the optimism about Vatican Ii even after years and even decades of its aftermath tearing down the church.
My friend, try this book: Reclaiming Vatican II
What It (Really) Said, What It Means, and How It Calls Us to Renew the Church
by Fr. Blake Britton
It was the interpretation of Vatican II that was wrong not the assembly itself.
All churches are made up of sinners. The Catholic Church is a big tent and sinners are especially welcome. God bless you.
Thank you and God bless you.
Let's all pray for each other. Thank you and God bless you.
We are all sinners. The Church included!
Yes, the Catholic Church is filled with sinners as the world is and we need His mercy!
In the early days following Vatican II there was optimism. The optimism was short lived once the demons of that uncanonical council manifested itself.
The demons are strong within you, pagan.
By what criteria do you decide what councils are canonical and which are not?
If the magesterium of the Church accepts them, it seems logical that we must as well.
Well said. I have to agree. It seems that the problem is not in the Council itself but in the interpretation of the council, what came after the council was what was wrong.
We shouldn't incite hatred or name calling here. Let's [ray for one another instead. God bless you.
God bless you. As I said to someone, I don't think the council was at fault but the interpretation following the council that went too far. Let's pray for each other.
"...to the patient bearing of Pope Francis."(sic)
Incorrect. What Sheen actually said was "... to the patient bearing of offenses."
You are right. Thank you! God bless you!
Who claimed he said Francis?
“I’m sorry” but your video is still up ❤️ #Hmm
When you listen, it sounds as if Bishop Sheen mentions Pope Francis. It is still up because I want people to hear about Divine Mercy. If I take it down my channel may lose what little views it gets. I intend to take it down after one year, when those videos don't matter as much.

Britton says Vatican II
promotes a radical return to the Church Fathers and the Scriptures, holding both a commitment to tradition and the need for constant renewal in life-giving balance,
recenters the Church on sacred liturgy and encourages both active participation and genuine encounter with transcendence, and
charts a clear path for the Church’s renewal and empowers it for evangelism and transformative engagement with the world.
Britton invites all Catholics to step beyond the polarization and embrace Vatican II as one of our greatest resources for being in the Church in a way that is faithful, engaged, and effective if we answer its radical call to worship and renewal.
Is anyone still unsure about how this predicts Pope Francis?
My mistake! Sheen actually says bearing offenses. God loves you.
Sheen was wrong. Yes, he was a TV star. But he was wrong, wrong, wrong.
It is OK to disagree. The best we can do is pray for others.
Clickbait.....

In the course of all the comments Pope Francis also came up. It was not my intention to have a conversation about the merits of Pope Francis or Vatican II. Some of you may know that Padre Pio was unjustly criticized by someone in the Vatican and this resulted in many years when Padre Pio could not hear confession or say public Mass. Eventually
In 1933, Pope Pius XI ordered a reversal of the ban on Pio's public celebration of Mass, arguing, "I have not been badly disposed toward Padre Pio, but I have been badly informed." In 1934, the friar was again allowed to hear confessions. (Wikipedia)

(Wikipedia)
Throughout all of this time and until his death in the late sixties, Padre Pio would never say a bad word about the Pope or the Church he loved.

God bless you.
Even if he did say “Pope Francis”, I think he would be referring to the laypeople’s patient bearing of his heretical views😂
Please pray for our Holy Father. God loves you!
He said from Rigidly tp Patient towards sin. Bergolio is very Patient towards sin. That is what is meant in the Title of the video. The other people commenting just aren't putting it together.🤔
We got back last Friday and only now am I looking at all of this. I am now convinced that Bishop Sheen does say "for offenses" and NOT "Pope Francis" I made an honest mistake and glad you pointed it out to me. I feel no shame in this because I know the reality of the situation. I never meant to mislead anyone. My intent was not to get clicks. I was hoping for a discussion about Sheen. The primary purpose of The catholic Catholic RUclips station is to make people who may not know the message of Divine Mercy aware of it.
t is interesting to see that a few of you are very quick to judge this as click bait or as fake. This is a symptom of our contemporary society. Please don't let society make you cynical.Cynical people refuse to see that others are sincere and sometimes make mistakes. Cynical people are quick to think that everyone else is trying to game the system or do things for personal gain only. Cynical people can lose faith in others because they think that every kind act is done for personal gain.
@@Antoniogonzalez-ky7xz Rather than accuse or name call we should pray. This is what I am sure the Holy Father wants and certainly, the Holy Spirit is directing us to a deeper prayer life. God bless you!
red eyes?
God bless you!
LOL !!!
God loves you!
I was born after Vatican Council 11 and I found nothing wrong with everything we do. What I fear is to see the red caps of the pre vatican dresses of the bishops and cardinals. I do not know why I fear them.
God loves you.
Sheen was a champion of the Council
God bless you.
God bless you. Let us pray for each other.
We should pray for those who insult us. God loves you.
Bp. Sheen embraced the phoney heretical Vatican 2 council, and went on to set up a model Novus Ordo parish
My friend, try this book:Reclaiming Vatican II
What It (Really) Said, What It Means, and How It Calls Us to Renew the Church
by Fr. Blake Britton
IT was the interpretation of Vatican II that was erroneous, not Vatican II itself. God bless you.
