One of my favourite all time Arc’teryx jackets. Def one of those iykyk pieces, the design is only really going to be appreciated during high-output activities - skimo, winter trail running, sky running, randonee, xc, fastpacking etc. I still get a bunch of use during summer as my ‘altitude’ layer for a bit of extra warmth and weather protection when moving up high.
Comfortably makes the Proton FL and Atom SL redundant for me.

Indeed it’s great at what it does and nothing else. I felt like I needed to review as I regularly do on the channel which resulted in most people not being able to really enjoy this piece.

I`ve seen conflicting reports that the hybrid is both warmer and cooler than the FL ?? I find the FL is too warm in the arms when hiking uphill above 5 degrees C, but feels just right on the descent. I`ve never owned an atom SL, so I`m wondering if the hybrid will fit the niche better for hiking uphill in milder winter temperatures, without being too cold on the less energetic hike back down.

@@harpocrates302 It's much 'cooler' than the FL, even less insulated than the Atom SL. I think it's kind of inappropriately named as a Proton which throws people off. I wear it winter trail running when it's below freezing but it also got use as a rest layer during summer to keep the breeze off whilst still allowing sweaty baselayers to evaporate.

@@BlackShama Cooler than the FL seems like the missing piece of the jigsaw :)

@@harpocrates302 I haven't tried the Proton FL yet but I have the crewneck which is almost the same thing. The hybrid most likely not going to work out well for your hiking usage as once you cool down it's just not going to keep you warm enough with its minimal insulation. If you were skiing down however it is perfect...

Atom SL is better, but still no insulation in the hood! I think they missed the target on both jackets.

Wouldn’t need insulation in the hood as you’ll be wearing a helmet on the way down. But it does make it mostly useless for general usage.

Does it fit over a kyanite?

Yes it will fit over any of Arc'teryx fleeces@@algorerhyth

why would you want insulation on the hood on a jacket designed for high output activity?
