Bob Omb Battlefield - Super Mario 64 but the main instruments are swapped

- As in main instruments I mean the Brass and the Synth voice.
Something I made out of pure boredom and curiosity.
I couldn't make it loop properly cuz some instruments would have missing notes :(
This is what it sounds like in my head when i'm remembering it
me too!
@IanPlayz69 that's good that means I'm slightly less insane than I think I am

I think why it sounds 'better' is, because we see it as new and interesting, compared to the already known original version.
exactly!!!
Yeah people are just really used to the original version, so hearing this version feels like something fresh I guess.
nah this makes me feel uncomfortable
I wouldn't necessarily say it sounds better per say, but familiar and not bad.
@@MarioDude1337-fe1pyExplain this to the internet dorks that didn't understand that at 2023 and judge every bad remix as "better than the original".
I had a visceral reaction to this, it feels like I’ve stepped foot into an alternate timeline LMAO
You have. In this timeline we say "stepped into" or "set foot in" but never "stepped foot into"
Did anyone else have to search what visceral means

Why does this sound completely okay and normal? It's definitely different, yes, but it doesn't feel wrong.
The magic of Koji Kondo, that guy is responsible for alot of nintendo classic themes.
That's the secret to music: as long as it's not repetitive, the tones or instruments you choose don't really matter that much. The only thing that *really* matters is the beat.
For example, the "we three kings" part of We Three Kings is three adjacent notes. Top to bottom. Right to left. 3-2-1. What makes it We Three Kings is holding the first and last notes for longer than the middle one. Without that, it's just tink-tink-tink.
Changing instruments is similar to just swapping the person's voice that's singing a song.
@BMoser-bv6kn I think the entire Sonic The Hedgehog fanbase would like to disagree with you on that one. They like to get very picky with the instruments used in the music there.
@@Pyro03333autistic fanbase is autistic? Shocker
Perfectly describes it tbh
Me when I try to come up with “creative” and “unique” remixes.
Haha, it’s so true.
When you accidentally backwards long jump into a parallel universe in Super Mario 64 and the game doesn’t crash.
he switched to a differently personalized copy
I’m gonna download a super mario 64 rom and replace the normal BBB theme with this one and change nothing else before reuploading it online as the original.
in 10 years a handful of people are going to be driven insane when they hear the real BBB theme and it sounds backwards to them. it’ll be like a mandela effect waiting to happen
That would be so cool!
0:34 sounds like the “Game Over!” Theme.
Holy crap I just realized
I just slowed it to 0.75 speed and it’s nearly the same. Btw thanks for the ❤!
Exactly this
I CAN'T UNHEAR IT
@@axl256gamesx7 You’re welcome >:D
I think the reason this sounds better than the original may be due to it having a similar format to the version we see in Throwback galaxy in Mario galaxy 2, where trumpets are used for the main part of the song…. Maybe.
It’s definitely this, I thought the exact same thing and then saw your comment
never played mario galaxy 2 but played mario 64 and it sounds fine
It doesn't sound better than the original, what kind of expired weed have you all been smoking?
actually saxophones for main part
Koji Kondo almost certainly has 50+ variations of each song testing this exact premise on an old server/drive somewhere. Even with instrument labels for the soundfont we/they love playing with swapping them.

This sounds like it's a beach theme now XD amazing how switching a few instruments changes the feel of the song
I'm somehow thinking dancefloor 😂
Accurately captures the insincerity of all those X song in the Mario 64 sound font videos
yeah
Most people are bad arrangers and even worse at transcription, the songs are all wrong in the first place and then they don’t even match them believably to the game’s musical art style
@@juanthehorse420give examples pls
@@juanthehorse420I feel like most of them don't even bother arranging or transcribing. They just slap a midi someone else made into LMMS and call it a day
@@MarkH yeah, most people from what I know don't actually start with rearranging something, they use an online midi and work from there lol. Its extremely easy to make soundfont covers, but to make good ones takes work and knowledge of the actual console/game sound limitations and how composers would mix it with that in mind.

I believe the synthesized trumpet comes from a Roland MT-32, And I KNOW for SURE, the Synth voice, is actually from the Korg M1! (Its Called Voicewave :)
Oh wow, I didn't know that!
Im just realizing how many instruments are from a Roland and korg keyboards!

..I watched this video on sampling in video game music, and its CRAAZZYY how much that French horn was used! 😂(idr which Roland midi module it was)
Yeah the Roland trumpets are in A LOT of VGM
Wow all very interesting I love it!
Koji Kondo did always like his Korg keyboards...
this kind of stuff harkens to malformed memories, and then childhood you dreaming about the game, then decades later feeling as if this how it really was, leading to personalized copies
From 0:06 up until the halfway point the music reminds me of super Mario galaxy 2 whomp’s fortress
My brain had a hard time figuring out what was wrong. It did hear it, it was just confused.
This is unironically a banger! Great job on this!
Honestly never noticed how groovy the bass was on this track until hearing this. It seems to stand out more with the other instruments swapped.
This freaked me out I was literally thinking about doing this type of thing with SM64 like an hour ago.
Tbh it’s a simple idea that just popped in my head and I was surprised when I didn’t see something like this anywhere else.
This made me suddenly realize how the main melody is the same as the "get power star" jingle. Must have subconsciously noticed before, but it's like I never realized this for 26 years. Of course, aligning the instruments suddenly make these things obvious.
I love stuff like this
Having the part at 0:38 done by the voices makes it remind me of New Super Mario Bros

Less cursed and more "alternate version during development"
Imagine being stuck in a world where every single song, theme song, jingle, anything sounded like this. Just enough of the same, with just enough of a difference to make it eerie. I wonder just how torturous it would turn out for a person.
0:17 game over
The Hazy Maze Cave version was FIRE THOUGH and I need a full version immediately
I would have liked Mario 64 to have day, evening, and night phases to prevent collecting stars in the same map from feeling monotonous. They could have used this song for the evening, for example.
When time traveller moves a chair
I’ve actually wondered what it would sound like if it was like this, thanks for making this so I don’t have to overthink it.
Bob-omb Battlefield Zero Calories
What goes through someone’s mind when trying to make a Super Mario 64 beta recreation…and changing the music to make it like it’s an earlier version:
What music sounds like in my dreams. Accurate, but..off somehow.
Ah well, anyway Bowser got the metal cap and is gonna fly underwater to save Birdo from Princess Zelda. Just a normal dream.
This is what the Red and Black Bob-omb are singing !
Someone should use this in a rom hack
They probably already did haha

Sounds surprisingly normal, I dig it.
modern video game soundtrack remakes:
I love 46 OIRAM REPUS for the 46 Odnetnin released in 6991, an absolute classic.
This is surprisingly not as cursed as I thought it would be.
This what plays during the end credits with goofy pictures of the cast and bloopers
Koji Kondo really is the only composer to make a song that can loop endlessly while being inverted and still sound good.
Eh
This is Banjo-Kazooie tier thing, when the instruments are swapped in certain sections of the level
That actually sounds good 😮
Left and right brain traded places for a day
I’ve wanted this rip badly
I never realized how tangy the Nintendo bassist is
You know what, this all of a sudden reminds me of genesis-style music with Yuzo K, where a lot of the backing intensity came from really sharp, punchy instruments. I guess it goes to show that good composition shines through all different kinds of arrangements.
this is the most cursed version of this song i have ever heard even though it wouldnt even sound bad to anyone not familiar with the original

Pov : the mandela effect mandela'd a little too hard.
I like how the argument of it sounding better exceeded the reply section of the original comment and now it is just people posting brand new comments explaining why they think it sounds better.

I'm surprised I haven't seen any jokes about personalized copies yet
Oh you just haven't looked deep enough into the replies
There's alot..
If you hear it without context, you could regonize it, but it will seem odd

This is what happens if you jump through a mirror displaying Bob-Omb Battlefield instead of a painting.
It’s 1996, it’s your 10th birthday. Your mom just bought you a gaming console. On the box, it says “Nintendont 69”. Your dad hooks it up to the television while you open the rest of your presents. Your mother hands you one last gift, a copy of a game called “64 Super Bros.” Written in sharpie. You boot up the game and get through the opening cutscenes and head to “Field of Battle Bombs”, and this is what you hear
Who am I? What years is this?
This is like how I'd misremember it or something. Not sure if you have already but if not, try this with the final Bowser battle music

46 repus oiram emeth
This scratches an itch that not only did I not know I had, but also that didn't exist before I clicked the video.
Why would certain instruments have missing notes?
Because I was an idiot when making this video, I didn’t know how to rip a music file off the game so I just used a MIDI that sounded exactly like the original. Idk why It had missing notes when I tried looping it though.
Honestly if I hadn't been playing this level yesterday I would have thought this normal
how u do that? and why is it better?
You just extract the .m64 using SM64 Rom Manager and change the instruments using a program called seq64
(.m64's are the music files used in Super Mario 64)
And I have no idea why it sounds better xd.
