  • Former first lady Melania Trump, in an interview with Fox News, reiterated her stance on abortion saying she believed in individual freedom and that she didn't want government to interfere with her personal choices.
"I want to decide what I want to do with my body," Melania Trump said in a pre-taped interview with "Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures" that was released on Sunday morning (October 6).
She said her husband, Donald Trump, was aware of her position on abortion rights that puts her at apparent odds with that of the Republican U.S. presidential candidate.
Trump had previously taken credit for appointing three U.S. Supreme Court justices who helped in 2022 to overturn the seminal abortion rights case, Roe v. Wade. But since winning the Republican primary earlier this year, he has sought to offer a more nuanced stance on the issue as he seeks the support of moderate and independent voters.
He has decried six-week abortion bans as too restrictive, said he would not support a national ban on the procedure, and called for exceptions on any ban to include incidents of rape and incest or to protect the health of the mother.
