Hi, question on when you first seeded your putting green...what type of starter fert did you use? Ive read that its recommended to go with a 1-2-1 ratio fertiliser, is that what you did? Cheers, love the content btw!!

Hey Bryan490! Yes, you're correct that a fertilizer ratio of 1-2-1 is recommended. Our stores do not carry fertilizer aimed toward cool season turf here in Texas. In fact the only starter fertilizer available here is Scotts starter. It has worked well for me to get things started. I use this product and continually spoon feed it by hand until I get about 90% coverage. If you haven't already watched it, check out my How to Plant Bentgrass video:

@@ReelTurf Thanks a lot I will check it out! So with the 1-2-1 fertiliser, is it not recommended that bent, as it germinates should take on too much nitrogen? Here in aus the only starters I can find have the same amount of nitrogen as phosphorus

The recommendation of 1-2-1 isn’t quite telling the whole picture. Our starter fertilizers are the same- near equal in nitrogen and phosphorus. The high phosphorus is critical for good root development in the seeding stage. The 1-2-1 is important during the pre plant stage to boost the phosphorus. After planting you typically hit it heavy with Nitrogen. For simplicity and because of what fertilizer I have available to me, I have found that spoon feeding that starter fertilizer every 3 days works out just fine. You won’t burn the grass as along as you are watering it in properly after application.

Great videos! Question I just bought the same Toro flex greens mower. I noticed that you had the axles off. How did you get them off?

Hey Wayne! I'm glad you've enjoyed the content. Please send me an email to info@reelturf.com. It would be much easier for me to show you how I did it in a video.
