One of THE greatest country songs ever recorded! Sammi sang with so much emotion! I had the privilege to see Sammi do a concert in a small intimate venue in an old local theater just a few years before the died! It was a magnificent experience to get to see her sing this up close in a small setting.

My grandpa had a jukebox in his basement bar back in the 80’s, and I played the crap out of this song while we were shooting pool.
    I miss you grandpa Paul!

You 2 are awesome ! You should do her singing saunders ferry lane. It's a haunting song she wrote on the verge of suicide when she was poor sleeping in her car when she lost everything before she was famous.

Such a beautiful song! As I watch the singer Sammie Smith it is like looking at my dear aunt Emma Jean in the 1960's, she is the spitting image of her. It was like she was standing right in front of me again. She was from Oklahoma too, maybe there is some family connection. I am going to contact my cousin and have him see the video, he is going to really love it. She has a wonderful voice, a real down to earth country voice. She sang that song so tenderly. If I remember I think Gladys Knight did an amazing cover of this song too. I don't know which one came first. Gladys Knight could sing out names in phone book and it would be amazing. :). It was so nice to hear this song again. Another great pic!

Sometimes l can't believe l'm as old as l am. I grew up hearing great music & took it for granted. If you would of told me back then that Country Music was going to turn into loud music, no story telling, no fiddle, banjo or steel pedal guitar & people who couldn't sing well. I WOULD NOT of believe it! I grew up in the 60's & 70's. I remember when these songs came out. And l heard all the older Country Music(40's/50's) on the radio. I miss those days. You guys have been listening to some great Country Classics.

Written by Kris Kristofferson. Because it's about a woman essentially asking for a one night stand some radio stations banned it. One of three songs at the time that launched Kristofferson's songwriting career. "Me and Bobby McGee" and "For the Good Times" were the other two.

kristofferson wrote and she sang...and they lived to write and sing some more....interesting times for music of a more country-folky feel This found its way into mainstream and was heard everywhere. glad to see your reaction.

      I respect that.
I don't know. He's definitely up there, but I can't choose between him and Willie, or Roger, Hank, or Jimmy. They're all such great writers and in a few cases star makers. Their songs made others more famous than them.
