The best example is the controversial "Game journalist mode" difficulty setting back when super mario odyssey first demo'd back in 2017.
Same E3 was also the meme where a game journalist couldn't even pass the tutorial level of cuphead.
If a game is looks too hard, the average "normie" would just drop the game. So journalists exist to judge the game's playability for non-gamers.

Shoutout to Valve for allowing refunds regardless of playtime on steam for people in the countries affected by the stupid change they were pushing.

I will wait at least 6 months, watch SONY's behavior, until I maybe buy it on a sale, so I do not lose that much money, if they act up again. Was place #1 on my wish list. My trust in SONY is gone.
Waiting for a better offer does not hurt me. It will hurt Sony. The best part about the wait is, that mods will be ready the time I buy the game.
Why? I understand requiring it after the fact means games they sold are no longer playable in areas is very bad. But why is requiring an account to play their game online is bad?
@@SaltyChickenDip People buy games on Steam because they want to play it through STEAM, not have some third-party launcher/DRM crap included. If I wanted to play the game through PSN I would be playing it on a PS5. Yes, Helldivers 2 was way worse, because they required it later, and it broke these other countries, etc. But we need LESS of this kind of stuff in PC gaming in general, and I think we will continue to see pushback on this stuff. If I buy it on Steam, I should need a Steam account, and that’s it.

I didn't know about the tattoo. If I was a guy working at Kotaku (I still have my balls so, that would never happen), I would quit as soon as I found out about that and claim it was a hostile work environment so they're forced to pay unemployment while using her tattoo as part of the proof.

Some weapon systems are so hard to use that making mistakes using them will cost a butt ton of money.
So they made a simulator video game that trains soldiers to use some weapons correctly.

I did some research, they are owned by a bigger company of a few other media news sites.
Kotaku's sister companies are Gizmodo for tech, Quartz for Bussiness and Jalopnik for autos.
All of them owned by G/O media.
as much as we want to run Kotaku to the ground, that won't happen easily when a dying bussiness just be supported by its sister compnanies.
and as we've seen with some other game news outlets, they also have a network of support.
if Kotaku goes under, its journos could just be hired by other game journos sites with the same agenda.

Sony [PlayStation division], Microsoft [Xbox division] and Nintendo are not ISPs, as such, why do i need to pay them to go online when many other games [Space Engineers being one of them] allow you to host your own server?

Requiring people to link a PSN account is stupid. Not everyone who plays on Steam is also going to have a playstation. Some people only have a PC.

quite a few factors:
-one, they are activists. All that matters to them is pushing their drivel, and any games opposing that is immediately their enemy and evil in their book
-two, they are here because its one of the most terminally online jobs around
-third, I bet they are hired more because of their ability to write and having the "right" political opinions than any interest in games

Game journalism is PR, not actually journalism or writing so you're not going to get much people who actually like games there. Only when they roll back protections for the publishers will things change.
The attention they get. Because they are in a position, where they can influence sales of games by giving reviews.
They wanted to be authors but weren't good enough so they decided to be journalists but weren't good enough. They do tick the right neo-pronoun and anti-cis-white male boxes though so they get taken on as 'game journalists '. That's the only thing saving them from being unemployed bloggers with 7 followers.

Stellar Blade and HellDiver 2 are the last time Sony get my money. Change it or not, I'm not going to buy their goods anymore. I also filed for HellDiver 2 refund before they walk it back and I haven't checked if it's through. Not gonna rebuy it neither. If dev publish with Sony, they will not get my support, no matter what game it is.

Ghosts of Tsushima will require linking to PSN for mutiplayer ONLY!
This is the difference between Ghosts and Helldivers 2.
In Ghosts its only required for online play
but in helldivers 2 it was mandatory to link the moment you start up the game meaning you can't even load the game into a single player only session you HAD to link it to PSN if you even wanted to go beyond the start menu.

When I protested that Sony was pushing the PSN stuff on us in an ex post facto way and that's why we were upset, many people assumed that this meant I would have been perfectly fine with it had it been required from day 1.

If it had been required from day 1 I would never have bought the game or would have refunded it immediately.
I'm not buying ANY game that requires a PSN setup and going forward I'm going to be avoiding ANY game that requires ANY external network signin, ANY external launcher (already doing this) or ANY external DRM.
Not getting any more of my money for shitty business practices.
