There’s also the medical pavilion in Bioshock. Hearing Dr. Steinman raving about symmetry before murdering his patient is the most unnerving part of that game.
I'm surprised the hospital from The Last of Us 2 didn't get a mention; that whole sequence, culminating with the encounter with the Rat King, was highly unsettling.
& here are 5 more terrifying hospitals from video games: Arkham Asylum - Batman: Arkham Asylum Crowley's Genetics Hospital - Nightmare Creatures II Dixmor Asylum - Manhunt 2 Happy Volts Asylum - Bully Titan Memorial Medical Center - Dead Space 2
Wolfenstein 2009's Hospital level should easily be on this list. Just the cackling from the invisible veil assassin's alone makes you feel so uneasy throughout the whole level.
Three entries I thought would definitely make this list: 1: “Batman: Arkham Asylum”: The entire game. 2: The abortion clinic from “South Park: The Stick of Truth.” 3: Elliot Memorial Hospital from “Batman: Arkham Knight.” Even though you need the “Season of Infamy” DLC to do the Ra’s al Ghul side mission which partly takes place in the hospital.
As someone that has gone through plenty of hospital trips I can say for one that the food sucks and second when you have to stay in the hospital bed for a while can be dull honestly 😢
One I can think of is Morimoto Sanitarium from Persona 2 Eternal Punishment. Not only was the place nasty enough as is, it is also strewn about with the corpses of the Chinese Triad as this is the place the arsonist Tatsuya Sudou was being held, and they were trying to assassinate him (on his fathers orders).
@TheMrTraynor oh well I guess not in terms of horror, but I guess the list didn't seem solely focused on that. In some sense it was more terrifying just because it was real.
@@CBlade0 Absolutely. Most horror games finish with you defeating whatever caused this nightmare. A form of catharsis. With Town of Light, it's just coming to terms with what happened and there's nothing you can do about it. No mad doctor final boss, no blowing up of the asylum. Just awareness of what has happened to you.
Silent hill hospitals? But the one that really got me (& it might not be popular opinion because of the game) but the hospital sequence in the last of us 2 as it climaxes with you facing the ratcatcher (I think)
And how about a clinic? A smol hospital, if you will, like the one you get in Bloodborne. Considering it's a game about mutating into eldritch abominations, you probably may find yourself in need of a doctor of some kind. And Iosefka's Clinic makes a grand first impression for you... by starting you off in it and having you eviscerated by a werewolf on the first level! That may or may not be preferable to a rat infestation... Still, you may want to check up on it as you progress in the game. You'll meet the clinic's namesake herself after beating the first skillcheck boss known as Father Gascoigne, and you have the option of sending survivors to her. If you want, you can also access another part of it through the forbidden woods, which is as typically treacherous as it sounds. But you'll want to do so if you want to go to the optional Castle Cainhurst. Later on, though, it turns out that sending survivors to the building made by a cult may be the better option if you don't want them to turn into extras from the Blue Da Ba Dee music video. And here's a tip; even if you are going for a genocide run, you may want to keep Iosefka alive until you kill Rom the Vacuous Spider, if you want an easier way to the hidden ending. So infestation, experimentation, and a crazy doctor who happens to gain a bit of umbilical cord after you kill a meteor bug. That's Bloodborne for ya!

Theme Hospital has some horrific diseases, great pick
I remember playing the Max Payne 2 demo on PC with the hospital level and I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the lighting at the time.

So many people shit on that game but as a die hard Wolfenstein fan, I loved it.

most random title ever, i love it
All terrifying, but nothing is as terrifying as Ashton's night-vision scream

Town of Light, highlighted by the fact that it's based on a real notorious asylum
I didn't find it that scary, just very sad. Until the lobotomy scene at the end which terrified me.

I say this as someone living in the USA. (I don't consider myself an American personally.) You are damn spot on about US hospitals.
Revelation Persona. Mainly for the PS1 theme of Hospital Afger Disaster
Persona Q ! That was scary . 😢

I'd put Theme Hospital at number 1 since there's nothing more terrifying than a player's greed.
Do mobile games count? Adult Swim’s Amateur Surgeon had a good one. Doing incisions with a chainsaw, cauterizing wounds with a blowtorch, etc.
Watching from a hospital thanks Peter
I remember playing The Evil Within games. I think the second one is a better game but the first is by far the scarier.
Ummm alone in the dark was completely set in a mansion as well… seriously you really need to start proofing the scripts.
No love for Surgeon Simulator's Barnardshire General?
L4D's Mercy Hospital
Ya our healthcare system is way more scary than any of these games lol
Cmon what about the House of Healing in Baldur's Gate 3?
dark deception have a hospital in level 6
Seriously though, our health care system is pretty awful.
Timestamps please on all of your top 10s.
What about Sanitarium?
What about No Mercy from Left 4 Dead
