I grew up on Alvington crescent just round the corner. The frontline was our meeting spot during the school holidays in the late 70s early 80s. So much fun. Jokes and action to be had as a kid. Watching the odd raid on the roots pool . Me and freinds that lived on sandringham rd, downs park rd, cecelia road would get together at the cafe right on the corner. This used to be a fish and chip shop but was taken over and run by a set of guys if i remeber rightly. Jerri curls Zac from Ghana in his lacoste tracksuit and gold Mercedes benz. There was also the two rasses. Norman and bertie. And then there was Steve who had a kitchen showroom shop up leyton. I guess some of the first black buisness owners in the hood. They would take us over hackney downs park to play football and sometimes Sugar minott and barrington levi would come and kick ball with us. As an african kid growing up around there, they gave me a real sense of belonging. I have fond memories of those days. And remeber some of those names. Such as Soldier, Jabba Duce to name but a few. Very fond memories.
I grew up near here (Evelyn Court council estate) but I was born in the 90s. It's interesting to learn about what was going on around this time. My parents must have been familiar with this.
Yardie the movie was based on Yardies in east London in 80's,Elba should have had look on these videos,Sandringham Rd,Railton Rd or All Staints Rd for reality check..

Dalston, London. Plus this was the same year of the strange unsolved death of Colin Roach in Stoke Newington Police Station (21/1/1983).
