The Percy Jackson books are actually intelligent, wittyand emotional, while giving teenagers a great education on greek mythology... the movie was complete crap which kills all the subtlety of the novels.
in my opinion, comparing Percy Jackson and Harry Potter is like comparing Jason Bourne and Johnny English: the two may look similar at a glance, but when you pay attention they're actually completely different.
I hate how he's referring to the whole story of Percy Jackson a Harry potter knockoff. Like, I understand the movie was not that good, but he's making it sound like Percy Jackson has the exact same concept of harry potter and is just a copy. I happen to prefer Percy Jackson over Harry potter(in the books) I don't like the movie only because of its irrelevance to the books, not because of the comparison to potter
The problem with the movie is that it had nothing to do with the books. Nothing. The kept the names, the intro of the books, and then deviated to the point of it being something completely different. That being said, the books themselves have the exact same themes as Harry Potter. Lonely and awkward boy gets thrown into a magical world with friends that excel where he lacks. That's pretty much it.
I hate when people try to compare these two series even the lightning thief movie like really? The two are vastly different Harry goes to an actual school to learn magic whereas Percy goes to summer camp just to protect himself and train for self defense. Plus the movies are have different senses of the world Percy Jackson is placed in a very modern day world with modern humor and designs. Whereas Harry Potter seems to be in a much older world the two movies and book series are not the same.
He obviously needs to read the books - they are completely different from Harry potter providing also that they give you a great history on Greek mythology. - The movie was terrible compared to the novel so I hope they don't ruin the next one!
Well, see, the movie sucked. The books were so much better, incredibly so. They're not really at all like Harry Potter, besides the obvious fact that they are both teenaged boys who are prophesied to defeat the big bad guy and go to a place where kids with paranormal powers are trained. But honestly, the movie just completely destroyed the entire plot and characters of the books. I waited so long for that movie and was let down SO BADLY by it. It was incredibly boring and nowhere near as good.
Went to watch The Wolfman with 11 other friends yesterday and we were denied because ONE of us didn't have ID. Where's the justice in that? We ended up seeing this and there's just absolutely nothing special. Distinctly average.
One more thing. Magic? No. Sword fights? Yes. Now even though I have not read the lightning thief in a while, I don't remember anything about magic. Please get facts straight before dissing on a good movie. YES I READ THE BOOKS! I thought the movie was GOOD not terrible. So yes call me whatever you want because I have an opinion.
It's weird that Chris Columbus decided to do a "second-rate Harry Potter" considering he made the first two Harry Potter movies. However, I like Chris Columbus. I thought the first two Harry Potter movies were great. When Azkaban came along, it was good, but it just seemed to go from magical and awe-inspiring to dark and fuck you with a rake. If Chris Columbus wanted to do another Harry Potter, he shouldn't have left the franchise. I might go see this film.
I agree about this movie being 2nd rate HP but im sorry Kermode is wrong about Columbus. He makes decent-great children's films and the first 2 HP films were frankly the most accurate of the lot. moreover they were frankly better than HP 3 altho not necesarrily as good as the others. were they tooo light and childish, yes but those books were too the point was Harry was a child back then who grew up
We have to put up with 5 films? No sir, you got it all wrong. YOU have to put up with it for 5 films. 'Cause I'm very excited to see more of Percy on screen. And you said Annabeth is just like Hermionie? Annabeth might be the smart one, but she is more B.A than Hermionie.
To be honest with you, you probably would have felt the same way about The Wolfman as It's boring and uninspired, even the werewolf makeup looks retrograde and not in a cool or good way. As for this Percy Jackson nonsence, I find it too hard to believe that anybody, even youngsters will buy into this as it's so obviously a Harry Potter rip off.
But the opposite is true of the movies. harry potter was good. Percy jackson and the lightning thief i think if i had the same resourses i could do at least, at the veary least 5 times better. at least I read the book
@@fashionablechangeling1988 you shouldn't have to, if the film adaptation requires familiarity with the source material than why bother adapting it at all? If you need to read the book to get it than why make a movie even
His facts are obviously skewed, he has a lot to say but he really doesn't know what he's talking about. I Hated the Percy Jackson movie, but the flaws that he is pointing out simply don't exist.
am I the only one who wants to see Barry Trotter and the Cauldron of Penguins?
It was actually Barry Trotter and The Shameless Parody.
logic33 LOL thank you!
@@Samalamalamdam and it was pretty good from what I recall

I read the first Percy Jackson book and enjoyed it, but I couldn't stand watching more than twenty minutes of the movie.
To be fair, the books were a million times better
I do like the books alot. They arnt really second rate harry potter but the film is completely second rate.
in my opinion, comparing Percy Jackson and Harry Potter is like comparing Jason Bourne and Johnny English: the two may look similar at a glance, but when you pay attention they're actually completely different.
which ones which

Somehow I don't think we'll see five films of Percy Jackson...
How right you were

i agree that the 1st and 2nd where not so good the plot was good but the acting and feel didnt felt 2 cheesy 4 me
I love, love how they both know the entire Harry Potter-saga like the back of their hands :)
"The children of these unions were half god, half human." Because genetics TOTALLY works like that.
*****: Point taken. Still frosts my panties, though.
I can't read harry potter no matter how hard i try. but i can't put down a Rick Riordan to save my life.

6:10...if he only new. Clash of the Titans was even worse then Percy Jackson
Everything about this movie was rubbish, from the awful dialogue, to the lazy, unoriginal and cobbled-together story to the forgettable performances.
Harry Potter is merely second-rate Benjamin Sniddlegrass.

He's a film critic; reading the source material should not be required.
It's young adult fiction...reading them would be incredibly boring.
the books are amazing but the movies are poop

It's like buying beer at the grocery store and everyone you're with has to show an ID.
Revoicing that Queen joke was below the belt

My kids enjoyed it more than Harry Potter.
You got the point!
Citizen Kane was just a second rate Peter Jackson

i actually liked percy jackson alot, fun, funny, action packed. cool little movie.
Read the book
