- SAVAGE AXIS - Boyds' has designed 3 aftermarket stocks for the Savage Axis Centerfire Rifle!!!
*Please note: Savage Axis Metal Trigger Guards are not a standard option currently. They are available through the Accessories page: part number 100662.*
Just received my new Boyd's stock for my Savage Axis in .308. I'm almost at a loss for words. The fit, finish and quality far exceeded my expectations. It completely transformed what is a budget rifle into what could be considered a high end rifle. I also did an Mcarbo trigger spring/return upgrade and wow, just wow. I could sit and stare at this thing all day and just smile.
howd did you buy it? i cant find their website
I haven't did my stock yet but I put a new Leopold scope with some really good mounts an it and done the m Carbo 2 and a half pound trigger kit as well. I have the 308 as well. It's a totally different rifle now
I just got the 308 axis. Will you guys put links to the trigger ??
Since 308 is short action but all axis have a long action bolt did you order short or long action stock
I have had 2 Axis stocks sent and they didn't work for me. Boyds did send a replacement for the first one but still didnt work. When screwing down the action the action would lock up or I couldn't get the bolt to come out. I have to do more inletting and pillars to get the Axis safe and usable. For the price its ok, but it would of been nice to get a drop in stock. Service was 9/10, the stock finish 9/10, fitting was 3/10... And you would think that someone who is in the firearm industry would know the difference between a clip and a mag.
Mine just arrived today. Incredibly beautiful fit and finish in the sky blue thumbhole. It fits like a glove and was as easy to install as the video suggests. The barrel is completely free floating. I can't wait to take it out the range.
I'm looking at buying this for my first rifle but I'm confused what do I select for model and action on their website? I'm jsut trying to get a price at the moment
Amazing. Who would have thought that an aftermarket stock maker would find fault with a plastic, factory stock.
i mean they work fine and are light, but its definitely an upgrade getting a nice wooden stock, id rather save for other gear tho
Thank you Randy Also please thank your staff for making such great products..
I am shocked and surprised that a gun guy would call a magazine........a CLIP! However, great stocks. I look forward to get one for my Axis soon.
i got a beautiful thumbhole featherlight for my Ruger Mini 30 as a birthday gift. Do I need to source the metal insert from a wooden Mini 30 stock for proper operation?
These are the notes from our Website:
ATTENTION CUSTOMERS: You will need the trigger assembly, magazine, forend liner, and Cap assembly. Our inlet is designed not to use the stock reinforcement or side stock reinforcement screws. There will not be swivel studs installed on the forend.
Do some research...you will realize you are for lack of better terminology, a fucccckkkkin idiot.
cuz real gun guys dont really give a shit about whether it's called clip or mag or silencer or suppressor. you knew what he was talking about
@1993fox, our Prairie Hunter/Classic models weigh approximately 2.8 pounds, while our Featherweight Thumbhole weighs 2.3-2.5 pounds.
there seems to be a lot of negative "reviews" here about the customer service and the fit of the stock. I would just like to say i ordered a thumbhole stock for my savage axis 308 from boyds. I ordered the wrong action and called in 3 days later when i noticed my mistake and had absolutely no problem of getting a hold of a cust. service rep and they were awesome. they switched the order to the right stock, there was no extra 15% fee some are saying. My stock came quickly, and fit great right out of the box. its beautiful, fits the hand perfectly, sturdy. couldnt ask for anything better. So i dont know about the neg reviews, it blew my mind to see them. So in my book, boyds is a great buy.
The Savage arms and the Boyd Stocks is the best in a world, thank,s to Savage and Boyd Stocks.
Not only do their Axis stocks not come with a metal trigger guard anymore, Boyds changed the front action screw escutcheon to a cheap, plastic part that falls out of place when the stock is off the rifle. There's no good fix for that either, other than shelling out more money for an aftermarket part. I bought a lot of Axis stocks from Boyd's between 2013 and 2016, but I had to give them up when the quality got too low and the prices kept climbing.
Ordered one for my axis II XP it costed me 175$ installed it and man, I love it
Awesome I was going to ask if this one worked for the Axis II Xp, Its gotta be an insane upgrade over the super flimsy stock.
@@alexpat2502 yes it did, you might need to make some adjustments, lkke i had to go by a longer bolt from home depot, it was slightly short. And that's because Savage axis change afew small things once in awhile manufacturing this
@@parsianproductions6596 would this work for the regular axis XP?
@@Wildwestwrangler I'm not sure man, they're good at getting back to you, give them a call
Come on man, magazine!!!!
But now shipping with a black plastic trigger guard :-/
I have a savage with your classic stock and I love it nothing like a hardwood stock.
Thank you for choosing Boyds! We're very glad you are loving your Boyds Gunstock!
we ordered one today for a 22-250. leave to boyd's to come up with an after market stock that won't break the bank. thank you
I got a thumbhole stock for my Tika T3x in 6.5 Creedmore. It looks beautiful but the screws are a little too long now and the bolt hits them and stops. This is an easy fix by just grinding a little off the screw or putting a washer or shim under the screws. I like my stock so much I ordered another one for my Savage Axis 270.
I love my Boyd's stock for my 7mm-08, but the part that screws on forward of the trigger that the magazine clips to will not seat flat. When tighten the screw it tilts the part forward down so the magazine won't clip in place.
Make sure you are not torqueing past 35 inch LBS, and then try a small thin shim to prevent tilting of the mag tab.
I love my Axis, but hate the stock. Every time i go to the field i feel like I'm going to break the thing in two. I have been waiting for a replacement wood stock since i bought the rifle, ordered mine today... Thank you Boyd's! You just made a great rifle, even better! You may want to add an option for a stainless trigger guard, for us shooting the stainless model Axis...
Thanks for sharing! Job well done.
Jess my version came with a detatchable mag with the release button on the side of the stock. i havent seen one offred by Boyds.
Ordered mine as soon as I got the email notification...... Its getting delivered today.
Thank you for reading my email and reply as fast and doing some action about this problem I'm buying one the FW stock in the morning so happy because I like my gun very Much but I really don't like the stock boyd's stock you guys really put customers first I like that thank again
Put a spikecamp stock on my son's savage axis and we went from a 1.5 inch group to a half inch group. Just changing the stock dropped an inch off our groups.
Clearly accuracy is improved regardless of distance but on the video accuracy test I am assuming 100 yards as it was not stated. What was the distance for the groups? Thanks. I would be very glad if I could get that kind of sub MOA group at 100 yards with my Axis 22-250 and my new FT Thumbhole stock without bedding. I would be glad with just 1 MOA. Just need a range and some range time.
Thanks! I actually emailed you guys a few months ago asking, but I was told an aftermarket stock could not be made because of the lug nut. Looks like I was right!
I can't find any information on your website about it, but the stocks only list savage axis. Does this fit the axis II? Or just the original axis?
Hi Brian,
Yes, the Axis gunstocks are interchangeable with the Axis II.
We list that in the tech specs at the bottom of the stock's page: "ATTENTION CUSTOMERS: This stock is compatible with the Savage Axis II and Axis XP models."
Love the thumb hole. Can't wait to pick one up.
Boyd's savage axis stocks need to be inlet when you install an aftermarket Timney Trigger otherwise they won't fit..FYI
Awesome stock for my 7-08. Great quality, price and came 3000 or so km very quick! I don't know where the complaints come from?
Craig Bruce Thanks for your business!
+Craig Bruce What is the weight on the stock? This is the only thing I can't seem to find on these stocks.
Took a bit of grinding to get the 30-06 trigger mechanism to fit in the Boyd's stock, and the magazine well is a bit sloppy with the Savage magazines.
I cannot seem to find a straight answer on the internet, maybe Boyd's can help. I am wanting to know what the difference would be between the Prairie Hunter and Classic as far as scope alignment. Is the comb in the exact same alignment with the bore axis (top of cheek weld)?? And is the grip area the exact same??
The Axis doesn't come with a clip. But it does come with a detachable box magazine.
My friend built a mosin safari rifle using one of your stocks because of the durability. I was very impressed by the look and finish, and I say that as an amateur woodworker and a wood purist. Your company and product have earned their place in history, in my opinion.
Boyd stocks no longer come with a metal trigger guard. Is there any way to buy a stock with finished metal components?
Does Boyds make stocks for the Axis II XP line, or just for the original Savage Axis rifles?
4 years later same question, Do they? Looking for one!
@@Bmoneyyy3 same stocks will fit, difference is just the accutrigger and the scope.
Question for Randy and all the boys at Boyd's:
I bought a left-handed stock in that grey finish for my Savage Axis Rifle in .223 . Stock is machined to perfection and everything fits like a glove. Looks amazing and shoots well ...... Yet when I rack the bolt it knocks the magazine out!!!! The wooden stock lets the mag sit too deep into the action thus each time you try to work the bolt and put a cartridge into the chamber it knocks the magazine forward and down, so it ejects. Now I do realize that the Savage magazine has a plastic catch but this does not happen with their flimsy plastic stock as the depth on that is perfect. What's your solution. I have heard that you guys stand by your product .... I hope my hearing is still good ; )
I had the same happen to me. I called customer service and they send me two new plastic inserts that are supposed to hold the polymer magazine latch (the ones that come with the stock originally). Still having the same issue. Needless to say, I switched back to original savage stock. it might be flimsy but at least it's shootable
Did you have to special order the left handed stock? I can't seem to find them
Look under the "Gustock Configurator" Select Savage as the make, Axis as the model and the third dropdown box should let you "Choose action". You should then be able to select left-hand short or long action.
Do you still offer the Pro-Varmint for Savage Axis short action?
Love my 2 stocks .perfect fit
I was going to purchase this stock for my 6.5 Creedmoor but after purchasing a stock from Boyd's for my Ruger American rimfire 22wmr, I won't be buying from them anytime soon. The trigger guard screw was so long that it was protruding through the stock and interfering with the tang. The inletting for the tang is too shallow and the tang doesn't seat completely. The swivel studs were out of alignment. The barrel channel was unsanded and I got a nasty splinter from it. I am very disappointed with the quality and workmanship. Beware, you don't always get what you pay for.
Sorry dantheman, We did just come out with the detachable box mag stocks but NOT the one with the side release button. I don't believe ours will work for you. a. Apologies:(
Randy is this going to be available in all calibres ?
When are you guys gonna release a ruger american short & long action stock?
The Boyds stocks come with a plastic trigger guard and plastic front mounting clip for the front takedown screw. You can purchase the metal trigger guard at Boyds. We have a replacement for the plastic mounting clip, CNC machined out of 6061 aluminum. Now you can replace all of the plastic and properly torque down the front and rear mounting screws. I used it on one of our projects (Boyds Varmint Thumbhole stock - Savage Axis Heavy Barrel). Here is a video ruclips.net/video/7g9ngiT9ELw/видео.html
Got a thumb hole stock for my savage 17 wsm fits like it grew there
so for the browning x bolt stocks because it have a trigger guard and mag well that drops out will I be able to use the factory trigger guard or is it "redesigned"?
I have a Browning A bolt stainless stalker in 7mm mag. the Boyds website does not list the A bolt, it has the A bolt midas and medallion as well as the AB hunter and A bolt 2 and A bolt 3. Which one do I choose for the original A bolt stainless stalker???????
Can you customize stocks to fit individual needs. I shoot a right-handed gun left handed. I would need the a stock for a right handed action...but the cheek pad for a lefty. Is this possible?
Do you make a stock for the youth model? I did not find your website very user friendly.
At this time, we only offer youth stocks for one model which is the Rascal. No Axis Youth model.
My daughter has a youth savage axis in 7mm-08 and has outgrown the shorter stock. She want to keep her gun but wants a new stock. Would one of your full sized stocks fit this gun? I know the barrel is a little shorter than the adult model.
William,
Yes, the youth Axis model will fit our adult Axis stocks. We recommend the Agility, At-One, or At-One Thumbhole if she's still growing as it has an adjustable length of pull that will grow with her.
They have them. Go to the site, select Savage, model 110 and the version of your rifle.
Is there any reason to bed the actions to your stocks?
@boydsgunstock I order the prairie hunter for my savage axis in .308 I just received my stock, when I tried installing it I found out that the front take down screw is too short for this stock, does boyds sell longer ones?
I was looking into the Savage Axis II 6.5 is the savage 1 stock gonna be able to fit? Thanks much
Will you have one for the Ruger American?
im from Canada i, going to try order one lol
Be aware it does not come with the metal trigger guard like he says you have to pay extra for that. My first stock was great on my axis 270 but my 2nd for my axis 223 has major problems and I've had no response from customer service for a week now and after some research found this is the norm so be warned if you get a bad one good luck trying to get help.
I would love to have one these replacement stock but can't bring it in to Canada and the Canadian resellers sell this stock for 3x the original stock. Aparently there is free trade agreement between US and Canada but in real life it doesn't exist.
I notice you do not make one for the Remington 700 ADL!!!!!
Yes they are selling quick BUT our max lead time is only 7-14 days:)
I think the savage axis rifles are all long actions even with a 223 or 308
Savage Axis are all based on long action receivers, but it's the magazine width that makes the difference between short and long action. For our stocks, you must select short action for 223, 308, etc.
I just got an axis in 6.5 Creedmoor with a heavy barrel. Will your stocks work with the heavy barrel?
As long as you select the Short Action Bull Barrel stock we offer.
Yes, we offer stocks for the Savage Axis Short Action Bull Barrel.
I would like to buy this direct from the Boyd’s but they don’t sell to customers in Australia we have to go through third party’s and pay double for Boyd’s stocks 💰💰
there's a whole bunch of companies in the states that do mail forwarding. Buy it from boyds for the US price, have it shipped to one of those companies and they'll send it to you in Australia. You end up paying for shipping twice (plus whatever fee the forwarding company charges, usually small) but can be cheaper than buying from resellers.
Does this stock work for the savage axis II? I like these stocks but want the benefit of the accutrigger
It will as long as the recoil lug is not attached to the barrel (some are). We have the lug already installed in the stock.
Do you make a stock for the Savage axis heavy barrel?
WHOO_HOO! Finally the Axis will be worth buying ! PRICE?
do all 3 models have free floating barrels?
Do u have to resight it in wen u put the new stock on?
how bout fixing your website? ive been trying for a week to possibly place an order for a stock and the website doesnt work. everytime you try and customize a stock it messes up and then it never throws anything into the shopping cart? not a very good first impression on your products if people cant even browse the website and get accurate pricing. and its not my computers browser because i have tried it on multiple computers and multiple browsers.
Samuel Thomas Samuel, apologies; we switched to a new host and developer and functionality is getting better each day. Thanks in advance for your patience.
any plans on updated the layout of the website, it is honestly very very hard to navigate around, very cluttered and confusing. it needs to be more user friendly.
Do you need to do any type of bedding?
I have this firearm in 22-250. Must check out the Thumbhole FT.
how much weight would a laminate stock add over those plastic ones?
Not quite sure what your plastic stock would weigh, but our laminates are @ 2.3 to 2.5 pounds. Hope that answers your question!
it's a factory savage 110/2 stock quite flimsy and light. I'm from up by watertown hope to come see your facility someday and place an order
I have a thumb hole stock on my axis 223 and the magazine gets stuck and I have to remove the stock in order to get my mag out.
hi papa.. i just got the axis 2 in 22-250, would you please let me know how can i order the thumhold stock , thank you Sir
how come you are unable to ship to new zealand. the stock is under the value required for international shipping
I have a savage scout 11 in .308. I would love a nutmeg thumbhole. Is This available?
Can u tell me if a Boyd stock for a Savage Axis 308 fit a Savage XP 22-250?
Can you please make a long action "tacticool" stock?
Hi, Can you please help me which one is for AXIS II XP.
I rang your number and I was told the Axis and AXIS II XP use the same stock. But when I called Savage, they said they are not the same...
I am also confused with this:
(Axis), Action (DETACHABLE BOX MAG LONG ACTION FACTORY BARREL CHANNEL - OR - SHORT ACTION )
Looking at the pictures on your website, the Long action has bigger magwell.
Which one is for the 22" barrel, or the barrel length does not matter?
I am confused. Can you please explain before I order the wrong one.
Thanks

my cheap original savage axis xp stock broke in half from a accidental 5' drop yes the original stock is cheap now i am looking to replace it with a boyd stock and looks 10x better.
Thank you for the good words. Glad you liked it!
Thank you! Will be ordering soon.
Part number for this stock showed in example ?
The Classic stock shown for Savage Axis has the part number 43a374d041zz for short action calibers and 43a374c041zz for long actions.
Thanks this was helpful.
i am a beginner hunter and looking to buy a rifle the rifle that i am looking at is a laminate stock the gentleman that is taking me is saying that i should buy a synthetic stock because of wear and tare i need other opinions on the matter please help.
Mine didnt come with a hole drilled in the trigger guard, or come with a screw

Long overdue, can't decide between the classic and the prairie hunter
Wow, love it, so these would work on a axis II xp?
Yes! As long as your recoil lug is not attached to your barrel it is compatible. The attached recoil lug is new to the Axis models since we programmed the stock.

@@Wildwestwrangler Yes they will work with XP and Axis II models.

Many of our left hand stocks are indeed made for right hand action rifles. We don't offer ALL our models this way, so you should go to the site and search for your model. in the SHAPE drop down look for left hand. The type of stock you want will say "LEFT HAND STOCK RIGHT HAND ACTION" in its description. Please call our sales dept. for further assistance. 605-996-5011:)
any chance you will offer after market cheek risers for the thumb hole stocks :D. love the stock other than the difficulty getting the cheek weld behind the scope
normal add on cheek risers dont really work on the thumb hole stocks, so a factory fit riser would be a nice addition (even if i had to do some drilling etc)... or even just an DXF or STL file so people can print a profile to match up with their thumb hole stocks. I bedded a boyds VT for a howa heavy barrel and improved the accuracy dramatically over the original plastic fantastic it came with. i have to increase length of pull another 16mm, and raise the cheek rest to allow for scope alignment as i am using a 20moa rail , mid to tall 30mm rings and a mil spec scope with 90mm eye relief.
i have done a bit of R&D for a mil spec optics company in the past, so having rifles that shoot consistently is important and having good ergonomics is critical. the Boyds VT is rigid, and consistent.... I just need a few ways to tune it now lol
