  • mrhmag.com - Watch as ALCo 303 switches Andover, Maine on the Allagash. The sounds in this video are all from the loco, including the prime mover sounds, brake squeal, and coupler clank. Also see how Mike uses "finger flick" turnout points and uncoupling picks - the Allagash runs every bit as nice as it looks!

    This looks like the real thing! Great job modeling the backwoods of western Maine. Your combination of photos and realistically placed trees made this very convincing. I've actually visited this region many years ago and you got this spot on.

    I've seen Mike's great pics and vids before. When I do I actually can sense how freezing cold it is, having grown up in NYC and later living in Waterville and Bangor Me. many many years.. All the barren trees, icy rocks, snow patches... Brrrrrrrrr .....

    This is amazing my friend. When i youtube model trains, this is what i'm hoping to find.. it really looks like an actual place that would exist. i can't stand the cluttered messes builders usually make. i hope whoever worked on this is very proud of it

    Thanks for the nice comments guys. The White Mountain Branch is a fun branch to operate. It's a good example of how much operation you can get out of a relatively small space. Around the bend is a rock quarry that ships out crushed stone as well.

    I'm interested in the "finger flick" method mentioned. How does this work? What is needed/required to outfit switches for this?
    Oh, and I cannot believe the meticulous scenery there - it really is top notch! I have been perpetually building a layout of my own for some years now (every time I end up pulling everything up for moves or the arrival of children - I only have one more to go... move that is, no more kids, and I can at long last start on a real layout) and I hope to do half so good as you have done! Can't wait to see more!

    • @MRhobbyist
      @MRhobbyist  10 лет назад

      Art: the other comments are on an older, lower quality version of the video. Unfortunately, when you update your video, RUclips won't let you replace it, you have to create a completely new video. The way MRH mag works is we can point it at any video we want whenever we want, so we repointed the mag video here to the new, improved one. If RUclips would let me do what I want, all the comments would be here. You can blame RUclips on this one.

    @MRH your "hand holding text overlays" destroyed 90% of the illusion this wonderful depiction was offering. Please stop interfering with poorly timed descriptions and inappropriate distractions. Let the video speak for itself. In most cases your interludes wont be required. If you feel further explanation is required, add it to the end of the video or put it in the eZine

    Looks like the crew wanted overtime. It would have been better to come in on a different track with those woodchip cars. Cut them off, go over to the bulkhead flat and shove it back to spot, then go ahead, grab the caboose and Chip cars spot them and leave, your caboose being on the right end.
