Just made the decision yesterday to start drawing everyday and your video popped up first thing this morning. I don’t believe in coincidences!I thought your video was amazing. See you in the next video.
I'm a senior at a fairly renowned private art school, but you, Andrew, have taught me as much or more than many of the professors here have. Your humble & sincere approach makes you a natural teacher & inspire-er (if I can coin that term). Thanks for the work you put in!
Loved the style of this video! Your narration in particular felt so authentic and from the heart, and wasn't rushed like so many art videos I've seen. I really appreciate the care you put in not just at the drawing board but behind the camera as well. Thank you!
Hello Andrew! I've been watching your channel for a long time! You're a big lad ! Your wonderful videos are very inspiring! I am from Moscow, I have been painting icons for 30 years. I started my channel thanks to you! Thank you very much my friend Andrew! 🤝 You are a wonderful, real Artist! 😇 С Уважением! Андрей!😊
Beautiful sketches. Your right you have to do sketch everyday so it becomes muscle memory, which with transfer on to your oil paintings, with a beautiful outcome. Love your lectures thank you for keeping us on track!
I enjoyed both what you said and the focus of your sketches today. Action “shots” like these are hard. One thing I would add to what you said about a daily sketch practice is for people with limited time to not try to do completed drawings like you are doing but to do multiple timed sketches. I start with 4-5 two minute sketches as a warm up…no time for details! Then I’ll do a couple of 5 minute sketches and then 10 minutes sketches. If I have time, I’ll do one complete 20-30 minute sketch based on one of the earlier sketches.
Just absolutely wonderful. So true that we must show up every day if we are to become what we desire to become. The best statement I've ever heard, "if I'm green, I'm growing, if I'm ripe, I'm rotting."
Fits and starts is normal surely. Its returning and keeping going thats important. What do you think. Your way better than most. Thanks for the videos.
I find a lot of artists say that. My thought is that we need to make sure that when we miss a day that it doesn’t turn into a week which then turns into a month. So how do we keep that from happening. How do we allow ourselves grace to miss one day but then the next day may it priority for ten minutes. Seems simple enough yet so many can not keep that going. It’s not just with sketching either. Its with every maintenance goal we have from a diet or exercise program, may be a spiritual practice-whatever. Maintenance goals have a set time to perform, easy to start, harder to maintain, but discouraging as we trudge along with no end in sight. So is it in defining a goal so that we can feel a sense of accomplishment or able to celebrate a milestone that keeps us going?? Sorry lots of thoughts and questions that I have thrown around for a long time. Can’t wait to see what others have been doing or thinking on this matter as well
Making the decision to show up, we're going to try, and we're going to do it consistently. This builds momentum. Love your work, love your videos. And I love to paint too and you're so right about the drawing bit. I'm in the same boat about skirting the drawing exercise. You've inspired me to get on this sketching business again. It helped me a lot when I was in High School, and I know I need to do it now. Thank you and God bless. P.S. You will never reach your full potential because to create is to constantly take risks and to become something you are not. And there is so much space there.
Thank you for this great video, Andrew. You are such an inspiration. I appreciate seeing you use different techniques as you work through your drawings. But your perspective on deliberate practice & the flywheel effect is priceless.
wow, lovely work. I started drawing at intermediate school, about 11 years old and started oil painting in my 30 s, in the evenings, after my sons were a little older and easier. I love oil painting, and also paint lots of different subjects.
Even your loose sketches are brilliant, love your quote, if your green you grow if your ripe you rot, my old martial arts teacher would tell us, you are eternal students, learn every day, applies to everything in life, including my art, thank you for sharing.
How are you keeping that long tip on your pencil without snapping the lead? Thank you Andrew... this has really pushed me to get outside my comfort zone, and explore how I can improve.
Your videos are always truly inspiring! As an artist who's currently struggling with artistic inspiration(who isn't hahaha), watching you work reminds me of the joy found in creating. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Challenging yourself, exploring 😊, especially when we repeat this within a certain time span, as you suggest doing a little each day, we build neural pathways. Expansion.
Most people consider true art to only be giant masterful paintings and such. While those are amazing, it’s always the simple but profound stuff like sketching that surprises me.
Andrew, great video with some interesting truths , I like the fact you were willing to admit imperfection! Most would try to hide it , or lie. Your work is fantastic , even in it's flawed state. Thanks Craig ps I see your hair is missing here, cancer treatment? (too personal)
Please check out my 500K subscriber special, I explain there. No, it's not cancer. Turns out I'm not immune to loosing my hair, so I got out ahead of it and now I don't worry about it! ruclips.net/video/uIzF0yVcHG0/видео.html
Do you have a video on the varied line width on the outer edges of the forms? Glad to hear I'm not the only one who's been inconsistent putting in the time. I've been away from it for years. :(
Yay! Your drawing cowboys!! Every sketch endeavor is like a challenge!....😅yes, I'm competitive . I see someone else doing something and I go, " I've got to do it too!"😂 God bless for Louisiana!!
I've been doing watercolors, a few oils, and haven't drawn in a bit. Today, ironically I did a simple line drawing from life and it was the best feeling. All the fundamentals of drawing right there in the simple little exercise. I'm gonna take your advice and show up
Thank you so very much for sharing. I can not afford for the pay patreonsite anyway i learn a lot from your utube vids. Big compliments for u doing these educational vids. Wish for u to make many more beautifull artworks and stay in the green zone 🤭🍀🎨🖼✏
Thank you so much Andrew again! I draw freehand for my painting and it's amazing!! No one seems to watch my content though! 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️😂 I dont know how you get people to watch your content. Much love and respect from Hassib.
The more times amd time you get past the it's getting boring stage, the more your brain becomes addicted to doing it and after a time it becomes a need, and you actually derive pleasure in the activity. So, when drawing, draw until you become bored or tired, then push through 5 minutes more. Then next time, do more, and more. Building the addiction takes time amd frequency and actually pain. Getting past the im tired/bored feels painful in the beginning since the reward mechanism of the brain has not been established. Consistency is also important since this reward addiction system fades away. How to start? Make a ritual. Say prepare by taking a shower, making milk, sit down, do breathing, etc. Note that this is also uncomfortable in the beginning. Just like going to school. The decision to be in this situation is important, and realizing the pleasure you gain once you get things rolling is worth it makes a huge difference. Dont expect pleasure in the beginning. This is similar to working out, or creating a vice.
I'm a professional horse trainer and riding instructor of close to 50 years experience. If anyone takes issue with your subject matter, you can direct them to me, and I'll demystify these animals and their misperceptions and assumptions. Your drawings look great. Your marks have momentum.
There's a lot of animals in pro rodeo that are called "Union" because they behave like crazy wild animals until their timed event ends, then the stop bucking and willingly leave the arena.
Comment on themes not considered acceptable due to beliefs or opinions. Look at history. All the war and violent scenes depicted. The first painting that came to mind was Goya’s Third of May 1808. 🎉Also religious violence has been heavily captured in art. It’s as you say, capturing the energy of something and also depicts an era or event which invokes discussion or inner thoughts. Humans and animals are not all fluffy clouds and unicorns (nothing wrong with those) and a reality check can also help us to learn from the past, or indeed present. Leave the doors open I say and document the living world. 👍🏻
Thank you for your kindness. You are so sweet. I am 83 and love getting you emails I am slowing down. I wish I found you 33 yrs ago. I am now playing Pickleball 3days a week. Less time for art 😞thank you for sharing. Love you. And I pray for your future blessings with your art. You are the best. Anita. Blewer.
Wonderful video and great advice. People don't understand how important it is to be consistent and even go back to the basics or close to them. Idk how many sketch books are filled with anatomy, spheres etc. The time you put in will show in your results. Full potential doesn't exist in my mind because you can ALWAYS learn something new.
Nice you aren't letting the angry mob censor you and dictate your subject matter. Let them stay angry, dull and single minded while you explore and experience life. P.S. I'll bet not a single one of the hypocrites has ever said one thing to a horror artist making grotesque art.
Whether you like rodeos or detest them, people have got to stop apologising in advance and being so self aware about how some dainty woke snowflakes are going to get triggered by everything and anything. It's so pervasive in society, it's sickening and all they're waiting for is the opportunity to mount a backlash to cancel someone. I can't watch or listen to one thing anymore without it being part of the discussion. Enough. Artists, a lot like comedians have to push boundaries and do it with freedom - it's the death of both of them if they're not. Francis Bacon didn't give two sh!ts about what people thought, he painted how he saw things and the sadness and cruelty of life. Coincidentally, I remember he painted Bullfights, brilliantly, highlighting the savagery that exists in life. Imagine Bacon with a filter - No thanks. Love the video, love all the videos.
Rodeo!? I thought you loved cows? Woof Hang ups? Was really enjoying your videos, but can’t support the ignorance and ambivalence around animal welfare Sorry unsubscribed.
Haven't done any drawing in the last year, always finding excuses why I can't get to it. Thanks for the video Andrew, I'll use this as a kick up the rump ;)
“It seems that many people have hang ups about all kinds of things these days” No. The internet just gave everyone a voice. Sure it’s annoying but it’s not all bad. There’s some traditions and problems that bringing attention to them make for a better future. As someone with a family I can’t dismiss it as people being too sensitive.
Hang-ups? About drawing? Maybe? I don't draw enough it seems. I need to make an effort as you have to do it more... rodeos? I love my beef, my bacon, my chicken... Glad these people have skills.
i know this is a video about starting to draw, but the moment you said the first step ist to decide to do it, was the moment I realized I had decided to start oil painting not long ago due to your videos. Beautiful, and thank you so much for your statement to those with hangup about everything and anything!!
Brilliant advice, every journey begins with a single step....art style 🙂
Beautiful,
Thank you Andrew. ❤

You sure know how to instill energy in people. Thanks a lot. I am a sort of experienced artist but I still have found this illuminating.
Awesome !!
Thank you!! Always enjoy your sketchbook endeavor videos.
Glad you like them! Thanks so much!
This is great advice and practice! And your work is great too, Andrew!
I'm on my way to sketching daily more consistently too.
Have fun!
Oh Man, that was Gooood!
Absolutely beautiful art !!
I love that saying! "When you're green, you grow. When you're ripe, you rot." I'm going to use that saying at work.
Hey Andrew, loved your sketch, and your video really inspiring!! Keep it up, thank you!
Thanks. I improve as I keep practising. You are a MASTER.

Andrew, this is Richard and Paula in Ft. Worth. I love what is happening to you in your drawing. Are you selling any of your original drawings?
We have a farm ( cattle) so draw away my friend:)

Funny you have the cut glove I use a white cotton sock cut out.
What do you do as a career? And also what type of desk are you using?

Don’t know where the idea came from that our sketches in our sketch books have to be perfect, I know I’ve struggled with that concept
Drawing horse's with a Palomino pencil....ohhhh sweet irony 😁
Note: Palomino is a color of horse.
can you give us a german translation?

Nevermind the Karen's, just draw what interests you.
As far as I know Prophet Mohammad Sallallahu alaihi wasallam is not allowed to draw or paint🤔
Rodeo!? I thought you loved cows? Woof
Hang ups? Was really enjoying your videos, but can’t support the ignorance and ambivalence around animal welfare
Sorry unsubscribed.
AI is discouraging me to draw.😢
Dont let that happen. Just draw
Cruel sport, rodeos, if you think about it. Sorry, can’t watch…even to get your drawing tips.
Keep that up, and you might find yourself in the Cowboy Artists of America.
In any case, it is my goal. Cowboy up my drawing skills.
Haven't done any drawing in the last year, always finding excuses why I can't get to it. Thanks for the video Andrew, I'll use this as a kick up the rump ;)
Maravilloso 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I like your studio set up, very organized looking...
This video came when I needed it the most. You've inspired me to get back to daily sketching. Thank you so much for this video!!!
Hello, good work 🙂
Brilliant! What paper pad are you using?
In the description he says " Fabriano Sketchbooks A3 Landscape format 160gsm"
“It seems that many people have hang ups about all kinds of things these days”

Thanks again

Dos minas de grafito y unas hojas eso solo es lo necesario y es grandioso
Gracias por este contenido
reminds me of lautrecs horse pencil sketches
I hope you and Aaron Blaise collaborate some day. It would be nice.
Hoy es 20 de abril, desde hoy en adelante tú serás mi maestro💪👽
I don't condone rodeos either, now I'm in the mood for a steak.
Great idea with the cotton glove.
