i grew up in a small rural town and had relatives that lived way out in the boonies. Staying with them for a night, watching that sun go down, and suddenly understanding that you are in sea of black with the only light visible coming from the moon and the house, can give you a certain feeling of unease. You become suddenly aware that nature does not welcome you. You are an alien invader on this planet and it would consume you if it could.
when I was living like in the middle of nowhere and seen the complete darkness except the moon I didn't think oh my god I'm a alien I thought "hhrrrmmmm big pretty light" you sir could be a philosopher.
I used to have a lake vacation house in Maine that was gorgeous by day yet terrifying by night because it was at the bottom of a steep mountain trail surrounded by forests which was nearly impossible to ride out of during bad weather. There were a lot of bears and giant spiders walking around outside the house and everything was lit up by a massive sea of stars. It was beautiful and calming during the day, but scary as hell as soon as the sun went down haha. Me, my brother and my parents refused to leave the house after that time.

The sounds of crickets and birds, the average sounds of the animals at night, they all have just……..stopped. It’s as if we stepped into a sound proof room. It’s as if it……KNOWS….we’re here. The sun is quickly setting. It’s as if the cabin is forcing our hand to step inside of it. Everyone needs somewhere to hide. Maybe life is just too much, you work your ass off just to climb a single rung higher on a mile high ladder, your dad died and you need to process privately, or maybe you're just not cut out for constant shit of city life. We all need it sometime or another, and when we need it, we need it now. So, in hopes that I never became the dad who left for milk one day and never came back, I planned my hiding place ahead of time. Figured if I had somewhere to go at anytime it'd be easier to come home. A little plot of land in the foothills of the Rockys in Montana. That's my place. It was remote and near the mountains, but not so remote to be inaccessible in winter snow. I had one neighbor out there, an old retired couple living on almost 60 acres. Had a snug little house custom built, and passed their end days managing the forested half of their property like a flower garden. My little lot borders their woods. Propertly line went right along a little creek, about six feet wide and usually so shallow it dries up each September. My part of the woods was a little line of stunted trees and saplings along the creek. I have a little old trailer lodged in place with cinder blocks. It isn't the cabin I dreamed of, but I always said I'd put that in later. Along the road and taking up almost a quarter of my land was this big overgrown barn. Just a gray wooden wreck eaten by shrubs. Told myself I'd get rid of that later. I finally ran away to it last night. Wife was divorcing me. Called me a bad husband, when the bitch hasn't said one good thing to me since our wedding night. (No, the sex wasn't the problem. She even said that was the only thing she stuck around for. If we'd just been dating that might have been a confidence boost, really. As it is, it still makes me feel sick. That and my wallet, that's all the good I was to her, and she had the gaul to say it to my face.) And still, she's probably getting my savings. No cabin, no throwing out the barn. She might even get the house, I might have to hide here forever. That old couple saw I was in, stopped to say hi. I was polite, I hope, but said I was in need of some space. They invited me to dinner anytime. My little mattress is awful. I can't sleep. Yeah, I'm blamming the mattress for that. Or maybe the creek. It's spring, she's almost flooding over with snowmelt. Real loud. Something's in the barn, too. Sounds like a couple of cows going at it. And it stops every time I turn on the light. Every time. It's watching me. I have a few guns, decided against bringing them in case I got any dumb ideas. Best I've got is the pocket knife I take everywhere. I don't think a 3 inch blade will help much. I've had the light on for a few minutes, it's been dead quiet. I'll just turn it off... Jesus, it's behind the camper now. Sounds like it's right on the other side of the wall, it isn't stopping with the light on! What the fuck is it? It stopped. It went quiet, like it was moving away, and it stopped. I'm going to run to the car. I'll sleep in a hotel, even a parking lot, don't care. Holy shit, where's my car? Where the fuck is my car, it couldn't just roll away! I didn't hear anything drive off. The sound is coming back. It's like someone trying to sing with a chicken leg down their throat. It's getting so loud, I need to find somewhere to hide. The barn, the barn. Holy fuck! Something just ripped to top off the barn, it flew into the road! So loud, so close, i need somewhere to hide! I need to get out! It's behind me, it's right behind me and I can feel it vibrating my ear drums, it hurts!
2 minutes in and I absolutely love it. Definitely not a Bob Ross painting. I don't have to listen to it all the way through. I'm usually asleep by that time anyway. The sky moving would be too cliche. Too mainstream but you guys are killing me with the stationary. The grass blowing slightly would be a nice touch. Creepy and errie none the less. The BEST.
This reminds me of where I grew up. The nights were so dark that the local astronomy club would gather in a field to look at the stars, since there was so little light in my area…but the darkness always felt…wrong. I had to keep my curtains closed as a kid for fear of what I might see skittering across the yard at night…or if I’d be looking into two demonic red orbs staring back into my soul as we notice one another.
Ah the joys of going up to Northern Alberta. Nothing but open skies for miles upon end. At night you can clearly see all the stars. It is a wonderful feeling but at the same time, you feel a deep loneliness, you also feel uneasy as if your presence has also caused nearby creatures to tense up and figure out if they want to go into fight or flight. You also remember that you are on their land and that they have been here longer than when the Denesuline (Chipewyan) came to these lands. It is then do you realize that many of these creatures do not welcome you and will seize any opportunity to drive you from their territory. Or worse....
Around 16:45, this dropped me in a hole that I couldn’t see the bottom of, and I wasn’t sure that I could get out. Which ended up being just fine. P.S.- Oh yeah- I loved how it gradually got darker and darker as time progressed in the artwork. Nice touch.
Thank you! I always wanted to go for a more piano-themed sound but I never quite got the results I wanted. This is loosely based on that, as most of the sounds are modified piano tones. Glad you enjoy!

"There are mighty cities on Yuggoth - great tiers of terraced towers built of black stone like the specimen I tried to send you. That came from Yuggoth. The sun shines there no brighter than a star, but the beings need no light. They have other subtler senses, and put no windows in their great houses and temples. Light even hurts and hampers and confuses them, for it does not exist at all in the black cosmos outside time and space where they came from originally. To visit Yuggoth would drive any weak man mad - yet I am going there. The black rivers of pitch that flow under those mysterious cyclopean bridges - things built by some elder race extinct and forgotten before the beings came to Yuggoth from the ultimate voids - ought to be enough to make any man a Dante or Poe if he can keep sane long enough to tell what he has seen."
