Well, that and Uma is returning, and Dara Renee is in it. But like, when I heard that Brandy and Paolo were cast, I just assumed Chad was adopted. It's not that hard. My only confusion was how people as great as them created someone like *that*. Even if Chad is erased as a character, it doesn't matter, a bunch of the main cast isn't coming back for the forth movie, so there's no point in throwing a fit over Chad.

      Tbf I would like her to keep her dark hair for the role if she ever does play it, I actually do think she would look better with black hair and Rapunzel is the embodiment of hegemonic generic white femininity, casting a dark-skinned brown woman and the LETTING HER rock her natural dark features(such as hair) would help subvert the popular societal message that blonde hair and thus whiteness is the standard of beauty. Plus it would actually be a pretty big "fuck you" to the people who are upset that she's not white, by not forcing her to be adjacent to whiteness. It is for this reason that I am glad that they didn't make Annabeth Chase white when they casted a Black girl, Leah Sava Jeffries, to play her. They allowed her to be unapologetically Black and didn't try to dilute her features with typically "white" traits such as blonde hair. Because it's about the actress' talent, not how they look. I'm fine with Halle Bailey's Ariel still being a redhead, though, since red hair is further from the standard of beauty than blonde hair is, Ariel's hair being red has a very good reason behind it, and you're more likely to meet a Black natural redhead than a Black natural blonde.

    The thing that bothers me about these conversations is that all it takes is the perception of white people feeling like marginalized people are getting some kind of agency, education, or even comfort on a larger scale platform like published Television to see it as a threat on their hold over power. That's really the driver for these kind of angry reactions and accusations of "Blackwashing" every time these conversations come up.
    Never mind the overwhelming evidence like the data from the McKinsey and Company study showing the massive racial disparities in Hollywood, both in front of and behind the camera showing it's an overwhelmingly white, male wealthy industry especially at the director's level. Never mind that Black off-screen talent is primarily responsible for creating opportunities for other Black off-screen talent.
    It WILL keep happening again. Miles Morales, Ariel, April O'Neil, it keeps happening over and over again. It's all about the perceived threat on power from racial minorities "taking over."
    "I'm not racist, I just want to see originally Black/South Asian/Whatever" is basically the evolution of the "forced diversity" talking point.
    "Tiana can be white, what if they whitewashed her?"
    They already did do Tiana dirty in her own movie. They lightened and had to reanimate her in Wreck it Ralph 2. I love Tiana, but Princess and the Frog is already a whitewashed take on 1920s New Orleans, a sanitizied of Misogynoir toward a real Black woman, and the white Hollywood vilified portrayal of African religion. It's so frustrating because most of the Black movies they keep throwing in our face are already deeply flawed or still support white supremacy in many ways even if Black people still like them or support them.
    Black Panther is one of the most blatantly imperialist stories to come out in how it frames its conflict.
    People were so wildly colorist, misogynistic, and fatphobic toward the concept of April O'Neil being fat and dark-skinned in Mutant Mayhem when she's one of the best parts of the movie. The movie itself has the most anti-Black narrative in how the entire movie is built around the Black brute caricature in how Superfly is portrayed as violent and angry with the motivating factor of fighting against a violent, prejudiced society. The movie is a scarily accurate recreation of the model minority myth in how it utilizes an Asian father (who himself is racist caricature) is portrayed as more sympathetic for thinking himself "prejudiced" for disliking people for...literally almost killing his children out of their prejudiced violence?
    The Proud Family was repeatedly decried as "woke" despite it repeatedly mishandling and misrepresenting the very topics it continually brings up at almost every single corner.
    So this idea that racial minorities are taking over represents the white anxieties to the threat over power of access to be able to publish media on a wide-scale to a large audience. According to the McKinsey study of 2021, the Racial and gender mix for C-suite executives is 92% white and 80% male and they know it's a predominantly wealthy white industry in power.
    But they'll stay being racist toward South Asians and only see them as worth looking at when it's the most blatantly Orientalist portrayal of Asian people imaginable and get upset when they talk about their grievances with the portrayal. They'll stay being Anti-Black unless the movie is basically a minstrel show that supports their views and whims. They're not just angry at racial minorities existing, but specifically take issue with anything that seemingly does not specifically center a white gaze of how a non-white person is perceived.

    • @lilysflower9685
      @lilysflower9685 6 месяцев назад +7

      Wow your comment was so insightful, I love tmnt mutant mayhem and looking back on it, there are some problematic aspects to it sadly:( I agree, I’ve always thought that the reason white people get so angry when we’re pushed to the front is because they’re afraid of some minority takeover or something. Like, they’ve been so afraid of us gaining more recourses and power that they fear that we’ll treat them just as badly as they’ve treated us? It’s honestly scary that they know what they’re doing is bad but they continue to spread bigotry like it’s nothing. Like, I feel they complain about us getting rep cause they know it’s gonna challenge their already racist viewpoints on poc. But wow, you articulated everything so perfectly

But it was especially for them, and you know what, I’m completely ok with that. I got more adult matters to worry about. Same with a south Asian Rapunzel. The thing about Chad having fans now is crazy. It's like they didn't even see the movie.

    cinderella and rapunzel are two of my favorite princesses, and i one hundred percent support these actresses! people need to chill, rapunzel's important trait was having very long hair, not the fact that she was blond....

    I never saw Brandi as Cinderella, but I think, aside from the 2015 actress (i think its Lily?), she is the most adorable Cinderella I've ever seen!!!! Why do people care so much?

    • @sissysovereign1294
      @sissysovereign1294 6 месяцев назад +8

      It's wild too because when it first came out in the 90s when I was a little girl, NOBODY seemed to care! I even remember a cartoon series on HBO family around that era called "Happily Ever fairy Tales for every child!" That revolves around showing urbanized retellings of familiar fairy tales of all races and NOBODY CARED!
      One of the segments I remembered the most was their Chinese little mermaid,Chinese red riding hood, and Black Princess &The Pauper/Black Steadfast Tin Soldier. Hell in Japan they had a blonde little mermaid in the 70s named Marina but nobody cared.
      Social media didn't exist for people to openly bitch about it back then. But If they didn't like it, then they'd probably just roll their eyes,flick to another channel,and that would be that. Why can't people still do that now 3 decades later!? It's like the more time progresses the more people want to act like babies over the most pointless things. Yes Disney made them popular to modern audiences, but the characters themselves have been in the public domain with different designs for centuries.

    Yeah I’m somebody whose named Tiana before the Princess and the frog came out (I love the fact it represented my name in there) I have a Princess Tiana doll thinking of an idea I wanted to play her as one (well maybe one day I can try although I’m also a real person but a different time period setting) even however I came across videos talking about the same subject and I read people’s comments saying mean stuff about fan casting especially the Snow White one of Rachel Zegler (I used to agree with some of the comments and idk why) I came to your video to know that it was wrong of me believing to agree with the mean comments and so I agree with you more than what I did and I still love representation of WOC in all diversities as I grew to change for the better especially being open minded to conversations like these

    Yt people throwing a fit over a fan cast is super ridiculous there are plenty of Rapunzel adaptations so the fake outrage has to stop i think people need to go outside and touch grass and leave avantika alone

    I would love Avantika as Rapunzel , and this racist reaction happen before when Alexandra Metz ( An Beautiful Actress Of Color ) played Rapunzel on Once Upon An Time in Season 3 Episode 14 The Tower , cinderella , ariel , snow white , rapunzel can look whatever they want , they're fiction , colorblind casting is okay

    Growing up I LOVED Brandy's Cinderella. It was definitely diversity done right and I love Brandy especially since she's the only Black woman from that time who I really saw rock braided hairstyles as opposed to pressing their hair. I also would love to see Rapunzel being played by a Woman of color, we as a whole need more representation in media that is not stereotypical. I hate when white people and non white conservatives cry about these race swaps because the race of these characters have absolutely Nothing to do with the story and white people are not the only ones with long and/or blonde hair. And either way most people don't have hair as long as Rapunzel, so they'd probably use CGI anyway

    I really love Brandy Cinderella (my favourite) and also Halle as Ariel because she gives Arien energy. I really love both of them and I think they are amazing (also I love that they used Brandy in Descendants 🥰). I am so sad when some people hate them just because of their skin color. Halle was amazing Ariel and people hated her and didnt even see how talented she was because of her skin color. Even with Snow White I dont have big problem with Rachel playing her if they make Snows personality kind and caring in the movie but well see (I know she is supposed to be white as snow but in my opinion her personality was more important for her and I am not going to hate on something just because of skin color of actress, I have my doubts about the plot but who knows maybe it wont be that bad). So if Avantika (or any other indian girl) gets the role of Rapunzel I would be okay with it and will look forward to see new Rapunzel 💜. Personally the color of the actress shouldnt be the first thing you notice about her, it should be her talent and definatelly dont write mean things about them. And I am saying this as a white girl who loves Rapunzel (even had her on cake) and would be happy for any talented actress who will play her (if there will ever be live action)
    And for everyone reading this, you are soop amazing and beautiful 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

    I honestly don’t care what she looks like I just want to feel the same way I did when I watch tangled. Like I did with the live action little mermaid.

    Nvm how people are being harassed for fan casts of all things, but also like... Cinderella or Rapunzel being black doesn't change anything about the story. I get being upset if they change the race of a character whose initial race is important to the plot (or, obviously, if they're part of an under represented race), but these? The story has nothing to do with that, they can be any race... I mean, we all know why they get so worked up over that, but it's extremely stupid.

    Why is it racist if people want a white girl to be cast as Rapunzel instead of an Indian girl? Why is it racist if people don't approve of raceswapping in general? Just so you know, a lot of black people don't approve of race swapping white characters to black characters. If you really think about it, Hollywood isn't raceswapping white characters out of the kindness of their hearts or because they're trying to allies in the race issue or because POC actors were "the best person for the role". Hollywood is doing the raceswapping thing as a publicity stunt because it gets them high praise from the media and pats on the back, so to speak. It's another form of clickbait. Futhermore, Hollywood raceswaps white characters to boost their ESG scores, not because they genuinely want to do it.
    As a female POC don't you feel the least bit insulted that Hollywood is using cheap and lazy gimmicks just to get your hard earned money? Wouldn't you rather see a Indian princess from an Indian fairytale instead of an Indian girl cast as a white European character? I know it's just a rumor but why would you settle for hand-me-downs like a black Ariel or an Indian Rapunzel? Don't you have any self respect?

      Nah don’t come into her comments with this,”as a poc, shouldn’t you feel ashamed?” argument to shame a black women into feeling bad for nothing, yall have been doing it for centuries and it’s getting old. Us black women should not have to apologize to you just because you feel uncomfortable and threatened by a woc getting praise.

      Funny how whyte ppl in fandoms always quite and use the "its just a character " line when black characters skin tones get lighter like Amanda the Adventurer

    • @peabody66
      @peabody66 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@lilysflower9685 I'm not demanding for any woman to feel ashamed. Nobody should apologize for simply existing. Just so you know, I'm black. I'm kindly suggesting that people like Harriyanna to use their common-sense and not drink the Kool-aid. Wouldn't it feel more of an accomplishment if women of color play diverse characters that were diverse characters in the source material rather than ride on the coattails of white characters? With race swapping it's basically saying that people of color can't stand on their own two feet and always need somebody to spoon feed them or throw them a bone. Consider this: there was a mini-series about Anne Boleyn where Ann Boleyn was played by a black woman despite the fact that Ann Boleyn was white with no evidence of her having any kind of black ancestry. How are black girls supposed to be inspired to be better versions of themselves by watching that mini-series if the real Anne Boleyn wasn't black?
      Race swapping to me is another form of blackface. It's basically saying that in order for POC to be validated they must live a lie. No POC in their right mind should ever appreciate being an ESG stooge. The truth is race swapping is not being done for the benefit of POC. It's being done to fatten the pockets of studio executives. An Indian Rapunzel is not being done in the name of racial equality or representation. It's being done in the of the ESG farce. Open your eyes!
