I first heard Tea for the Tillerman as a moody teenager, full of adolescent angst, sitting in my bedroom in 1970 and wondering what 'it' was all about. What I heard coming off my turntable that day completely blew me away. 53 years on, the album has lost none of its impact. I named my guitar 'Cat' in honour of the great man and get more pleasure in playing his songs than any others. He's given me a lifetime of musical meaning than nobody else could have done.
This song brings to light what the world is wasting and missing. So prophetic! Where do we leave room for children, for lovers of nature, for people in general. The world is changing so fast, that there is less and less room for our decendants to have a normal life full of the abundance of what God have lovingly bestowed upon us. Yes...Where Do The Children Play?
They need to safe...and to feel safe. In their homes, walking in their neighborhood. Playing in the park. Sitting in a classroom..or their own kitchen table talking about their day. Come together..right now...please God...help us all come together.
In 1980 there about my sister and two friends formed a band called The Rainbow Four, we were around 10yrs and related on a fundamental level to what Cat was singing about. We covered "Jumbo Planes" at a Mall where my sister and I secured our 1st gig ever. I sang the lead my sister and friends harmony and I remember how the words and music felt to sing out and fill my soul, it still does. Thanx Cat Stevens
Thanks for this it is very moving. Cat might have bee born in Cyprus but I believe that he grew up in Soho. Nonetheless it's great and thank you all you posters out there.
thanks Sista :) ......children are the most precious people on our beautifull earth....... I do cry..... but here for them all.....see u around .........cheers ......love U :)
Just wondering WHY any thumbs down? We are in the middle of COVID-19. I haven't left my bedroom for 6 weeks. (Over 50, W/ preexisting health problems) Because of a drunk-driver, who died instantly, & I was hospitalized for 3 months. There are so many things to find offence in this world. THIS SONG ISN'T 1 of THEM.
I was also wondering why the thumbs down? I have been listening to his music for years but much more now with COVID-19 So sorry about your accident. Hopefuly you are recovering and still listening to Cat Stevens.
Nicely done. Though I'm pro-life and Kevorkian was humane. I love that this included all kinds of children from all over the world in different time periods.
buyakga1946 I just viewed the video and it but I tear in my eye the song has always been one of Yusuf's best and your video gives it a very strong meaning
mother use to tell us to ~ " go play in traffic " ( now mother's claiming that was just " locker room talk " ) that was in the 1970's #makeamericagreatagain
Same. I still find myself singing his songs. But I can't buy his music for fear that I'd be supporting some very terr0ristic organaizinations but well, I have my memories and Ewe Toob.
OH THANK-YOU THANK-YOU - for this beautiful beautiful BEST rendition of this song I've ever seen. I am suggesting this be a theme song for Tulsi's 2020 Campaign based on what I feel should be the sound-bite for her campaign from that once famous author of best-selling book, "Operation Manual For Spaceship Earth", Buckminister "Bucky" Fuller, otherwise known as the inventor of the Geodesic dome. His famous quote" : ”You never change things by fighting against the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the old model obsolete.” THIS is that new model along with Aloha and how to disagree more respectfully and agreeably we need to start with; the rest will just fall into place. Best wishes and blessings to YOU and Aloha to ALL!
Thank you, buyakga1946, .....It's a lovely song, yet bitter sweet. Yes, Where do the children play? Times change, and quickly we find technology has inundated our society. I am sharing with a Bible forum. God Bless you! Life is but a brevity of time. <
unfortunately the children stop playing outside on fresh air they become addicted to electronic games and other electronic gadgets and they gotinning fat and obese over and over from immobilizing and staying at home playing the games phon and xbox and ps ....
he's saying we have progress and technology and we keep building and getting more "advanced" but we are losing touch with the simple things the things that fill our souls and make us human and we can eventually lose touch with those simple meaningful things like somehting as simple as just kids playing, not video games or cell phones but just simple natural playfullness

You nailed the message I think Cat was trying to deliver here without being too vulgar. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing

I loved the presentation of this song. The song is one of my very best Cat Steven's/Yusuf songs. Grew up on Tea for the Tillerman.
Thank you, Desiree.
