That woman right there absolutely shredding the bass is my cousin sister, my uncle began teaching her bass when she was about three, makes me so proud to see how far she’s come!!
Mohini Dey You are one of the most gifted bassists I have ever watched. My 24 years of playing are irrelevant after watching your mastery. What an amazing gift!
I've seen lots of virtuoso sitar playing. I've seen lots of virtuoso guitar playing. I've never seen someone use sitar techniques on a guitar. Brilliant.
Bad assery on everybody’s part! The technical mastery, the groove, the smiles on people’s faces, dancing in their seats! Just an all round perfect performance!
It’s not about individual talent, I’ve never seen a group of musicians collectively enjoy, laugh and smile as this orchestra did in this clip. Sit down in front of a classical orchestra playing the greats of classical music and you will never see the musicians enjoying themselves so much!!!!!
Mohini Dey, You beast....I mean bassist. Those strings seem to be begging for your mercy. Prasanna - your mastery is exquisite..lovely transitions..take a bow sir.
I have watched this countless times and I don't know what to say. This is certainly the most wonderful thing I have ever heard and seen. How can one describe the absolute joy, musicianship, enthusiasm, human unity, transcendent spirit and great hope this brings? We will all be alright if we can be together like this. This is pure beauty and joy. This is hope and faith. This is poetry and love. This is absolutely required listening and viewing for all! Many comments here say "tears of joy" and that is indeed so! Etcetera!
I'm a pure Hardcore Metal head, this was an incredible performance, Yanni comes to mind, Absolute incredible musicianship, little Mama on Bass plays it like Eddy Van Halen solo...lol GODSPEED to all of you 🙏💓🙏
Unbelievable ! It's not only the incredible bass and also guitar solo, it's the entire group ! Every single musician in this wonderful perormance has joy in fis/her face. THAT'S what musc can do to mankind. No more borders, no differences, but pure expression of having fun when making this music. And these young people have! Thank you for presenting this video on YT. And without understanding the lyrics, I bellieve it must have somehow to do with love. A least I think so . BRILLIANT !
I don't know how many times I've come back here but you always amaze me! It's the chrorus, the percussion, the violins, the guitar, the bass, the flute... all excellently played by you, talented musicians. My admiration, love and respect to you all! ♡
No one's doubting the genius ARR sir! But to reproduce his classics in such a way (flawless and improvised) is absolutely incredible. Mohini Dey, Prasanna, the flute player and the entire background musicians - Everyone is on top of his/her game. The joy on their faces shows how much they enjoyed performing this on stage. Thank you Berklee. Tears of joy! :)
you all are just wonderfully gifted, excellent musicians. I wish that your ensemble would come to Melbourne Australia. the people whose chose to give this performance a thumbs down do not know what music is. I am a 60 year old who plays a bit of bass guitar and have grown up with country , pop, rock, jazz, and all the other modern b/s music, but I listen to your songs almost everyday. Mohini and Prassana are excellent but the whole ensemble makes it a totally melodious experience, Your diversity of nationalities only proves that we are all human beings and the same. Man is the demon who makes us believe that we are all different. EXCELLENTE
Seen it over a hundred times, still can't get enough of it, this is what happens when masters jam...just wow!!! The vibe from the violinist in the groove says it all...
With due respect to all comments about Mohini Dey I have to say that very few can play what Prasanna sir played so easily.. Its just mindblowing.. The whole thing..
That was the best performance I have seen with Mohini Dey i have seen so far. It works very well when all musicians work together, as they do here. All musicians had a smile on their face. That says it all
Prasanna and Mohini Dey....both of them literally took it to the next level of "divinity". Music of 'Thiruda Thiruda' by ARR was and is still way ahead of its time.
Mohini Dey really knows how to establish her dominance no matter with who she performs! Love both her playing and the energy she shares with the viewers.
What an amazing performance! Not only Prasanna and Mohini Dey are perfect, the whole ensemble shines. Can you imagine that after watching this (and the other videos of the same concert) I embarked on a now one year long journey through a nearly unlimited world of Indian music? Not only pop/fusion and Bollywood songs - the Berklee Indian Ensemble also directed me to Indian Classical Music (both Hindustani & Carnatic). There are so many talented musicians in and from India out there! Bands/singers like Maati Baani, Nirali Kartik, Sona Mohapatra, Chaar Hazaari, Agam, The Kheyaal-E-Jazz Projekt, all the wonderful artists on KappaTV’s Music Mojo (also here on youtube) and many many more. Though I have a very wide musical listening background across nearly every genre, I am currently listening to about 75% Indian music and I am not getting tired.
I have been watching Yazhi Guo's mastery on flute with ARR s songs. completely in tune with the original. He makes a Perfect entry in this song. So hard to orchestrate this. Kudos Annette for conceptualising.
Please give me time to absorb much more of this - it's truly spiritual in the true meaning of the word. Undereducated Scotsmen that I am! (Could be worse - I could been English lol!!
Before this video, I was not even knowing the name of Mohini dey. Such a shame. One the greatest Indian musician I have just watched performing. Goosebumps Goosebumps Goosebumps
No matter how many times I watch this, the bass and guitar solos never fail to incapacitate me with the combination of tears they bring to my eyes and goosebumps they bring out of my soul...
Wow! What energy, and all the various parts making a complete whole, voices, strings, percussion and main instrumentalists coming together for quite an experience.
Mohini Dey has become a regular with A.R.Rehman live concerts......its a real treat to watch her strumming the guitar.....she deserves all the success in life!
Look at the WoW Expression of the guy in Guitar (2:30 sec) on Mohini's Solo performance..!! He is like.. "How could she do this with so much ease?? Amazing..!!" Excellent Mohini..!!
Emotionally overwhelming virtuosity by young, extraordinarily gifted multi-cultural musicians. . .truly world music. Bless these kids! Amazing. . . the future before our eyes.
this cultures ability to envelope new things that they invented anyhow is astounding , me in a blues band in the states the old guys would yell if i slapped !!! go india
Its too much to handle... Its so beautifully overwhelming, i hold my breath everytime i listen to this... Its like free falling from a 100 storey building
Beautiful music by Berklee College of Music featuring Prasana & Mohini Dey! I was really impressed By Mohini Dey's brilliant mastery on the electric bass. You are all so talented. Thank you for your wonderful music!!
..... I'm just speechless...... compliment.... I wish the whole world could "play" like this together as you guys are doing over there on your concert, big respect !
Why Prassana is getting less mentions? Mohini is fantastic no doubt, but Prassana's fusion of the sitar and jazz style was mindblowing....and the small cameo by the flutist was superb...
Bordel, ce que ça joue ! Malgré l'évidente bonne humeur de ces musiciens et de l'irrésistible Mohini Dey, musicalement ça ne rigole pas du tout ! Une merveille !
Mohini Dey and Prasanna rocked it. What a beautiful transformation from Thee Thee to Malargale and again back to Thee Thee. Blessed to listen to this beautiful arrangement. Thank you Berklee.
You know this is special when you see the orchestra violin players all smiling and moving to the rhythm. I've never seen them do this before. Usually, orchestra musicians always appear so emotionless while playing their instruments. This was good. Real good!
I love how Mohini did the bend note between 1:22 - 1:32 (the earlier part has that too but this portion has visual to what she did. The original track of that song doesn't have that). And best part for me is 5:29 onwards, just too perfect cause I love that song from ARR!! All of them did an awesome piece together! Love from Singapore ❤️
That woman right there absolutely shredding the bass is my cousin sister, my uncle began teaching her bass when she was about three, makes me so proud to see how far she’s come!!
Mohini Dey's interview with Rick Beato shows what a wonder this young woman is. Here she is, surrounded by some of the best musicians, what a delight.
Mohini Dey
You are one of the most gifted bassists I have ever watched. My 24 years of playing are irrelevant after watching your mastery. What an amazing gift!
I feel the same way and I've been playing for almost 30 years ! What a talent she has !
Mohini slapped and they clapped... I keep coming to this video again amd again. That violine piece is so amazing.
It’s not about individual talent, I’ve never seen a group of musicians collectively enjoy, laugh and smile as this orchestra did in this clip. Sit down in front of a classical orchestra playing the greats of classical music and you will never see the musicians enjoying themselves so much!!!!!
Why comment only about Mohini Dey who is of course a genius beyond par, when I have never heard the guitar so *classical* as Prasanna played it! ❤️
This recording was 6 years ago. I just watched Rick Beato's recent interviewing with Mohini Dey on the bass. Absolutely stunning performance.
Oh. My! I can't believe I am just now seeing this. This is extraordinary!!!!!!!!!
And he composed it in 1993. When you hear it in 2020, you still feel he composed it yesterday. Way ahead of his times, A.R Rahman !!
That's the most intelligent audience I've ever witnessed ... who knows when to cheer!
How prasanna's solo is classical and jazzy at the same time... is what makes it so beautiful...
Annette Philip is my sister .. blessings All… Shalom #peaceonearth #communitymusic
Love the way the guitarist transitions between sitar and funk/rock.
Man mohini is on fire as is the whole orchestra. Mind blowing
All over the world there is an explosion of amazing young female guitarists and bassists making up for lost time.
The flute player Yazhi Guo is a genius at work... whatever I have seen of him points in that direction...
Mohini Dey, You beast....I mean bassist. Those strings seem to be begging for your mercy. Prasanna - your mastery is exquisite..lovely transitions..take a bow sir.
Prasana's beautiful sitar sounds were amazing! I'm going to try that. His solo was unique to me and very moving.
We don't give this flutist any credit? He's smashing it hard!
4:06 prasanna teasing marlagale tune ... this is just outta the world ...
I have watched this countless times and I don't know what to say. This is certainly the most wonderful thing I have ever heard and seen. Rahman Saab was ahead of time!! This song released in 1993...Still fresh memories watching in Theater n my home Town!! It's just ARR show
I'm a pure Hardcore Metal head, this was an incredible performance, Yanni comes to mind, Absolute incredible musicianship, little Mama on Bass plays it like Eddy Van Halen solo...lol
GODSPEED to all of you 🙏💓🙏
Most of India has never listened to the original and best compositions of AR Rahman which are predominantly in Tamil.
That bassist is groovin like no one's business sheesh, and that dude on the lead is tearin it up wow
Unbelievable ! It's not only the incredible bass and also guitar solo, it's the entire group ! Every single musician in this wonderful perormance has joy in fis/her face. Wow. I'm on my fifth time watching this video on repeat and it's absolutely incredible. I can't get enough.
we just witnessed beautiful and very skilled people making even more beautiful music! I like it ...
No one's doubting the genius ARR sir! But to reproduce his classics in such a way (flawless and improvised) is absolutely incredible. This the first time I get to see the bass guitar get the front line limelight. Kudos to the girl...
Omg Prasanna... U are amazing.. Wish I cud say I witnessed something like before.... The best piece was the classical bit on lead.... U nailed it
With due respect to all comments about Mohini Dey I have to say that very few can play what Prasanna sir played so easily.. Its just mindblowing.. The whole thing..
The guitarist playing the solo sitar style...WOW!!
That was the best performance I have seen with Mohini Dey i have seen so far. It works very well when all musicians work together, as they do here. All musicians had a smile on their face. That says it all
From Australia: Beautiful !!! The Young Lady playing the Bass guitar is Superb !!!!
That guitarist proves that "it's all in the fingers". Plenty of people playing a PRS, not many sounding like him.
The man plays guitar... Sounds like veena.... So beautiful.
Prasanna and Mohini Dey....both of them literally took it to the next level of "divinity". Music of 'Thiruda Thiruda' by ARR was and is still way ahead of its time.
That Electric Bass. ❤️
And the smile on the face of the performers describes that they know they are part of something big.
They are all wonderful musicians - however, the joy on their faces is worth a trillion words... awesome
Mohini Dey really knows how to establish her dominance no matter with who she performs! Love both her playing and the energy she shares with the viewers.
I had heard a lot about genius Prasanna Garu, now I've seen him play finally, one of the great guitarists of our generation, no kidding..
What an amazing performance! Not only Prasanna and Mohini Dey are perfect, the whole ensemble shines.
