Not only that, she's adding important material to a style of jazz fusion that is both new and very familiar to those of us who loved the best of the '70s fusion as well. Best of all her most complex fusion choices are still very musical to the ear. What a gift she is!
Since 2014 this girl has been making waves. And not just with her music. Big respect to India for having produced this talented young lady. She is much more than Jazz, Funk or Blues!

I remember meting her at Mumbai airport 2 years ago and giving hr a pin badge of a charity I play for called Merseycats. She was flying on the same plane as me to Bangalore. What a lovely young lady and so talented. This is the first time I have heard her play, and what a treat. Musicianship is not a competition it’s a family who look after each other and never give a negative comment about another musician. That’s the way it works in Liverpool anyway.

Cherry Snow no. If you do your research, you will see it is her hair. She has styled it that way for some time. Natural born Indian women do not tend to have hair twisted and curled that way. Nevertheless, it defines her persona along with her accent in English which has diversified since she started getting more recognition a few years ago. I cannot recall an Indian lady getting that much status playing such a eclectic musical instrument in years. I hope she goes far. One thing for sure, we will remember her for more than her look.

To me it looks her creation is whole of an improvised bass playing on the beats of Indian percussion instruments like the Tabla, Dholak, Mridangam and thus has earned her a place which sounds unique to the western listeners who are used to the way bass line has long been played..

I'm a 67 year old bass player, and I can tell all, that this is an education in multiple areas of education. Percussion, time signatures, Modes, I heard Pentatonic and Mixolydian. Dissenters, U are as such because this is WAY over your feeble minds. As with most of our population it is easy to criticize what one does not understand. This lady is a one of a kind. A musician in the truest. Not to mention that she is playing the most beautiful bass that I've ever seen.

She's doing tabla rhythms on her bass at times, interesting. I think her natural tendency is toward the avant garde moreso than to jazz. She favors extreme tempo and intensity virtually each time she performs a piece, frequently piling up complexity on complexity. A very busy mind in her.

She's a beast, plays so clean (not so here) and in the pocket while playing along with a song and with the band. Here, maybe she was just not prepared or got exhausted from previous songs or gigs. Or maybe she isn't used to playing solos and not ready herself. As a drummer I know Pro Drummers who are not good in solos but plays very musical as they enhance the song not just the right beat but also with sweet fills at the right time. Just slow down on your negative comments, though I also see ur point. But she is still young and this solo doesn't really represent her musical skills, and I can trully say she is very musical. Go watch more Live Coke Videos of her. Btw, I'm not Indian so I'm not admiring her because of ethnicity/culture.

@@goex4881 I don't get it either. It is technically interesting, but quite awful to listen to for any prolonged period. It is a thin and robotic sounding mess.
@@cincocharms1233 technically this is meh... a lot of notes sounds really bad...if you cant play fast just play something slower but make it sounds good... she remembers me the people playing guitar for a year..they want to play faster and faster but every note sounds bad.

She's a beast, plays so clean (not so here) and in the pocket while playing along with a song and with the band. Here, maybe she was just not prepared or got exhausted from previous songs or gigs. Or maybe she isn't used to playing solos and not ready herself.
As a drummer I know Pro Drummers who are not good in solos but plays very musical as they enhance the song not just the right beat but also with sweet fills at the right time.
Just slow down on your negative comments, though I also see ur point. But she is still young and this solo doesn't really represent her musical skills, and I can trully say she is very musical. Go watch more Live Coke Videos of her.
