Dude I work with had three coal forges in his place one of them was huge so I had no choice but coal I never got to use the huge one didn't need it. But that man was an artist with a hammer. But he had a massive power hammer that I never got to use. He also had a press that I never got to use. He also want to damn near 80 to 90% finish with just hammer and anvil. I ain't say how much steel I threw away. But being I had never Forge welded it was a lot. And he insisted on Forge welding said that was the main thing you could ever learn. It was interesting and very trying. Cuz he could be a hell of an a******. I wish I could go back and do it again. I wish I could do it now

If you try holding the metal on an angle when you taper the sides on the Anvil. It compresses the steal instead of Pinching,it stops the Twisties. Some thing I learned from the Slavic Smith at That Works.

I just noticed Jason and I carry our blades in the same manner in the same spot...on the left front hip area on a cross draw patter carried horizontally. I found it to be the least obtrusive and still provides easy access..On problem I faces is sometime belt loop can get in the way.

I am aspiring to get into small time stuff in my back yard, watching your videos has really inspired me to push through with my plan and go for it. Your knowledge and willingness to share it with the world is a gift to us all. Thanks again keep up the great work.

If the videos I have watched are correct, wootz was not heat treated because it would take the pattern away from the steel. It was left softer which was a major characteristic of its strength and legend. It would bend when most swords would break. You can still use a bent sword.

U pronounced fairbairn sykes correctly Jason! The daggers look great, but the commandos who actually used them would blunt the tip of the dagger over deliberately, this was to stop the dagger becoming stuck in the bone of the enemy. So if you ever see an original, it may not go to a fine point!

Jason, my wish list, 10 to 12" blade dagger, black handle, made by you, this will be a family heirloom for me to pass on to my son, I served 8 years US ARMY 3rd armored division, M1A1 until end of Gulf War early 90's, my son Gerald is serving in the 173rd Airborne currently in Europe, if you make it, you will live on in our own family heritage, not that we are anyone, but family and traditions are important, you are well respected in our home, would like to have an authentic Jason Knight Dagger to go with the Wolf heritage, wish list, thanks for considering brother, hope to hear from you

I really like your work. However by more robust Fairbairn Sykes do you just mean bigger? My great grandfather was issued his in 1942 and has been carried in service by a family member right up until 2009. It's not perfect but for its intended use (making a hole) it's hard to beat.

@@jasonknight8647 Apologies, I watched the video again and seen the knife you were speaking about. I see your point in that it would be a better general purpose knife and yes more robust in respect to being used as such and not just durability. I like your take on fighting knives and that for most they are just a fantasy but to the British the Fairbairn Sykes is as iconic, tried and trusted as the Ka-Bar is to Americans. Thanks for your reply.
