LYRICS:
There's a shining at the skyline and its twisting
manifesting into something big
you can try to hide but it won't do a thing
next level more than anything seen
we take over your days over
two blades on my cold shoulders
contagious like a Trojan you're frozen ice age
these days are far from golden
Volcanoes erupt from beneath
as we stand here gritting our teeth
a thousand years go by in a week
as we lose the world to this piece by piece
as thunder rips through the seams
like a lightening strike
you can never break free can't leave
like a government scheme
your sucked in locked in
without no key
They ain't got no patience
bodies get left with bare lacerations
you don't wanna see their retaliation
no explanation they start an invasion
They've been incarcerated sedated
their pupils dilated most hated
for making you open your mind
to what we've designed
As nations divide
you can't test whats happening
its more real than its ever been
I'm looking from the other side
Times are hard as nations divide
gotta choose a path
hold on hurricanes and shooting stars
hope mother earth takes me with open arms
I'm looking from the other side
I'm nothing but an outcast
hear the sounds from the blast
catastrophic turn the amp up a couple notches
put your hands up if you got this
As nations divide
you can't test whats happening
its more real than its ever been
I'm looking from the other side
this poison's destiny
the one thing that was meant to be
Theres a shining at the skyline and its twisting
manifesting into something big
you can try to hide but it won't do a thing
next level more than anything seen
we take over your days over
two blades on my cold shoulders
contagious like a Trojan you're frozen ice age
these days are far from golden
As nations divide
you can't test whats happening
its more real than its ever been
I'm looking from the other side
this poison's destiny
the one thing that was meant to be
Walk this line
So far from a day dream
how can i choose when i can't see
you will never out last me
I'm on top of this don't put it past me
lets wake to reality
#Hacktivist #ColdShoulders
rapping about real social and political issues over metal (what ever subgenre they are) has got me hooked
ikr ! They're like RATM, instead of rocking out to 666's they rap about issues that actually matter.
Rap Djent,or Djenty Rap
They have Rap Metal, and Nu Metal elements as well..
With some Grime elements
@@mtchll306 does ratm play about stuff that doesn't matter. oh boy....
This song gives me the fuckin chills! Somethin about their rapping with those sick British accents and those harsh guitar riffs with that ethereal atmosphere in the back! o__o
It's 2022 and this song still holds up as one of my favorite songs of all time. Still know the lyrics like I actually wrote them myself.
I remember so well when 20y old me, high as a kite, heard this for the first time just as it released, which resulted in me having a sort of divine moment where I felt like this song made me know who I was and who I wanted to become as my eyes started to tear up. Hacktivist has helped me keep my sanity many times!
Not a truer comment exists on RUclips.
Thx for that open and vulnerable comment. Music has that power. Wish you all the best!
I can't believe that they didn't become one of the biggest rock/metal bands about by now.
This EP brings back fond memories. Saw them live 2014 they were epic!!
Rage Against The Meshuggah Park
LMAO
Accurate description
So accurate bro
Well said my friend
It's more like *Cypress Meshuggah Shikari* to me...
Always nice to hear a metal band go out of the incredibly restricted box of what metal is "supposed to be" or sound like.
xXMarsOzXx Good question. Maybe neither, maybe both. Who knows?
xXMarsOzXx metal then grime i think
Zener Oner Grime is more about beats than rap, so i think that "rapcore" would be the best term.
nah, uk grime atm is very lyric based by what ive heard
Progressive Rapcore =)
Who cares what genre it is? It's Hacktivist and the music's great and that's enough.
7 years later this song holds strong! 🖤 That outro omg . “So far from a day dream, how can I choose when I can’t see, you’ll never outlast me, I’m on top of this don’t put it past me, LETS WAKE TO REALITY!”
Where does the time go?
yeah it's still a fresh epic outro by today standards
1:30 EXCELLENT clean guitar part. One of the best two-chord parts I've ever heard. Deeply ominous, and mysterious.
These lyrics only grow more relevant to how the world is as time goes on.
Michael Raspini still holding strong in 2020 👁
Facts, big ass facts
@@HisPeopleRestored ooft, 2020 COVID squad where we at!
2022 comes to its end...
So much emotion and anger packed into the vocal deliveries, riffs and especially those early 2000 inspired melodies. Its like I'm a kid again.
Finally I branch of modern metal that is worth listening too
Heart of a coward are another UK band worth checking out man \m/ But agree Hacktivist are well decent !!
I don't think it's that we just hate all rap. The Rap-Metal war has always been about philosophy - A lot of rappers talk about getting money and bitches. A lot of metal lyricists talk about "real" (for lack of a better term) things - war, violence, loyalty. Now what do we have? Rap vocals with metal lyrics. Behold this beautiful creation. Does this mean we can all get along now?
i miss the original hacktivist crew
man not that i hate the new guitarist but timify riffs was so godamn good and chunky i miss thoses time.. their recent music is still good but will never have the effect this band had when i discovered them with that ep, timify cleans vocals was also the shit i miss thoses man..
Truly agree with you man, old guitarist and back vocals were much better than current ones
Thats the Hacktivist i used to Love
This isn't metal and rap.
This is Djent and Grime.
In other words,
Heaven.
animals as leaders are still the kings of music.
I wish the vocals were louder in all of their songs
This would give the adrenaline rush needed to fuel a good run.
BIONIC JIVE
It's like they still existed and had had a musical evolution.. so to speak. Interesting project, I like the NuMetal approach to some vocals plus the new sounds/guitar tunnings/bass drops etc..
Literally perfect tonality on all instruments. Perfect frequency curtain from 15hz to 30Khz so far as I can tell.
Finally a groovy genre of metal with rap ! This works guys ! not like washed out attilla
A genre is defined by the ability to associate common features between different artists.
Where was I when this came out?! 🤦🏻♂️
Just about to leave the matrix.
their voices echo eachother's so nicely.
Djinkin Parque.
This track is awesome.
People will jump on the negative bandwagon.RUclips metal fans spend more time dissing bands than anything else.Reminds me off when Rage first came out and 99% of metal fans HATED them. Now they all sing their praises.
Looking forward to more from these guys.Good band.
2:52 omg
Their style is so djently grime dark and progressive, i love it. *.*
Saw them in Stockholm together with KoЯn, and holy shit they were amazing live!
Well, been listening a few Songs and I have to admit I didn't expext "Prog. Nu Metal" but damn you guys got me stoked, you just got yourself a new Fan
Great Fukin idea. Djent & Rap. Nice stuff guys
they even CAN play! I love the breaks them play!
If I'm not mistaken, the guy who did the singing (the one with the chinstrap), is the guitarist/clean vocalist for the similar Rap-Prog Metal band Devastator. I liked Devastator before Hacktivist, because Devastator isn't as egotistic as these guys with their narcissistic lyrics, but I really enjoy Cold Shoulders thanks to the beautiful section of Mr. Chinstrap's singing. Just figured I'd mention, see if anyone else thinks it's the same person.
+Drew Vantrease The clean singer is Timfy James, the bands guitarist
+Drew Vantrease yeaaaah, it's the founding member Timfy James ...
I used to listen to meshuggah and I honestly don't hear the so called "ripoff sound". Many bands take influence from others and I see why people think it sounds similar but meshuggah is much lower and monotonous imo. I think the sounds are different enough that they can't really be compared. People need to get out of their old music elitist mindset, it's 2014 for fuck sake.
Realy... Meshuggah has a totally different approach for their songs. Can't be compared, but I like both a lot
There's many Djent bands Meshuggah fans claim to be a ripoff
Well, Messhugah pretty much started what later became Djent, so yeah I can understand the similarities some people hear (like at 2:23 that's totally Messhugah's style).
Barry Whelchel I hear influence, this is an excellent song. It’s own thing, inspired & individual.
this is lower than typical meshuggah
This convinces me that djent was designed for rapped vocals. Freaking brilliant. More bands need to do this!
WTF WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD OF THESE GUYS?!?!?!!
My initial thought, although 2 years after you...
Rap Metal, straight out of '99.
thats a great support band for KoRn!
I'd much rather listen to this than Korn
Sam Willwerth You have KoЯn to thanks for this kind of music.
Gandalf Den Grå not really. Korn didn't invent rap metal, and the metal part of this music owes more to Meshuggah than anyone I'd say.
you are absolutely wrong dude, but thats ok
Anonymous2708 __ This guy has the right idea ^
Yep, this is why metal will never go mainstream.
DAT NU-DJENT!! WOOOOOOO!
djent + rhymes = the new nu-metal? debate
Kinda reminds me of Enter Shikari
yeah the white guy reminds me a lot of the vocalist from enter shikari
Ryan Wolfe They played Reading fest and got Rou Reynolds from Enter Shikari as a guest up on the main stage, was incredible.
Yeah. Except not shit!
look at these guys pull off a no budget video like pro's!
They're talking about real shit. That's what the people neeeeed.
The reason people actually argue about this is that "Djent" is more or less just a single element of music that is heavily used by a wide amount of bands which may indicate it's an actual genre.
IMHO, the term "Djent" refers to a technique of playing your guitar like sweeping, tapping, tremolo-picking etc., because all the other elements used by "Djent"-bands may apear just as well in any progrock/metal band (ambient, electro asf.) of your choice.
Anybody know DVSR? very similar Australian band. 1 at albums is more technical than rest but all are great. They seemingly lost 1 off the guitarists after 1st album. Sound changed to something more up tempo, but still same quality.
Yea man, forked tongue was a pretty good one by them from what I remember
@@garrickoestriecher1259 yep, I dig that one.
UNCONSCIOUS is their masterpiece.
Most technical song they have
Please release an album soon I cant get enough. Please.
Lads your vid got 1million views congrats! This shit is straight amazing and I love it. Better rapping than most rappers and great musicianship
god! this is what rap and metal is supposed to sound like. there is nothing cheesy about this at all. i am utterly blown away
greetings from france cool sound, cool voices, cool band .....
Hacktivist got me through the drive from Oklahoma to Maryland. Fucking excellent drive.
Rapshuggah
lol xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
I freaking LOVE these guys. I knew from the first time I heard them they would be good. This is just a real ass band that talks about dark and important things, and has good imagery in the rhymes.
Just discovered these guys, awesome
Saw these reprobates supporting The Algorithm at their album launch show. Absolutely blew the bloody doors off. Can't wait to see them on The Shikari cut-back tour. Special band trying to mix it up. If you haven't been lucky enough to see them live, put it on your list people.
By far their best track still. Even in late 2017.
One of the best songs ever. Even in 2022.
@@PiousMoltar Absolute banger
even in 2023
Intro sounds so much like Tesseract
This is exactly like Tesseract + rapping. It's ok really because it's great, there are some bad ideas and some good. This is clearly a good idea.
No one's better than the other, they just have different flows.
0:54
"Ass plunder rips through the seams
like a lightening strike
you can never break free can't leave
Like reverend steve
your sucked in and locked in
without no key"
as plunder rips through the seams* very different meanings mate
James youmissedthejoke.jpg
James idiot lol
The vocalist is called Rou. Infact Hacktivist are supporting Enter Shikari in their intimate tour in April
I really enjoyed the EP when it came out. I was excited as it was a completely new form of music. However, in 2016 I find that the excitement is dying out because of the lack of an album. When/if an album comes out I'll check it out.
I just think the long gap between the EP and album has killed momentum the band had. I'm not blaming Hacktivist at all. Plenty of other bands have had this issue. I
really hope that an album comes out soon and blows me away.
+tomthebodz March 4th 2016 ;)
proper strong fellsilent sound! loving the production on the kit!!
2:22 fuck~!
its all about how well you can use rythems and flow :)
Трек ТОПЧЕГ!
Its more of a sound than anything, it's that de-turned compressed bass and guitar noise combined with a level of technical ability
I could spend lot of money in a 10h version of the outro... just saying
Anthony Fournier I just left a comment how that outro is everything! Calming but heavy, beautiful, intense, atmospheric, FUCKING EPIC 🤘🤘
The last 2 minutes of this song are truly AMAZING!
Бодрячком, бодрячком! "По-любому, всяка! Качает музяка!"
Кто в теме, ставит лайк!!! xDDD
this band is amazing and refreshingly different, they make sensor sound like pop lol
The problem with these guys is that all the songs sound the same. Really generic djenty riffing, some "atmospheric" melody with rapping over it, a poorly sung, boring chorus, then repeat. None of the songs stand out from one another. It's a really cool concept and there are some really cool parts, but there's so much wasted potential.
Same thing happens with most djent bands, meshuggah and volumes etc. I can't personally tell the different songs apart just listening to them.
Oh silly me. I forgot I'm not allowed to have an opinion about music unless I actually make music myself. Just like how I'm not allowed to critique food unless I'm a chef. Fuck off.
Seth Plays Drums who is simon cowell to judge american idol when he can't sing worth shit?
ie worst justification ever. nice1
I'm not really into djent, I think a lot of the genre is just trying too hard sometimes. Especially the growly screamy kind...it's like it's already hard enough to process the riffs now you oughta kill the chance of a melody over it with growling or screaming?
ANYWAYS I don't even like rap but I seem to like what these guys do with it. I understand and respect your opinion, but if you like them, stick around and see if they improve their sound over time.
you just described every band
now what their missing is some good killer solos. hope to see em in their future songs.
Reading festival👆
They were so good!
I get an old school POD vibe from this, but with Meshuggah style guitars??? SICK. Metal rules and resides over all types of musical genres.
As I said to someone else, speaking of today's artists. Not the past. I didn't mind Tupac.
It's like So Solid Crew gone Meshuggah/Mnemic's style of Metal but keepin the street sound prominent.. This wipes the floor with most of the shit being released these days. Fresh take on Rap Metal and a welcome change to the scene.
old POD + old Linkin Park + djent + UK = Hacktavist
dont act like you dont already know.
Coming from somebody that HATES rap metal with a passion...This is pretty good.
This song unbelievable relevant for the UK now.
going to see these at 53 degrees cant wait :)
The mix in the intro riff is totally off, but as soon as that disappears at around 1min it really kicks on. Loving it more and more on each listen.
djent + rap = awesomeness!!!
Probably the sickest music video ever.
Dat Bass.
never heard rap and post hardcore together
its fucking genious!
Im seeing them with Shikari in Dorking, Can. Not. Wait.
Anyone else see them last night supporting Enter Shikari?!
Shit like this is the saviour of modern metal, when these days many metal bands and fans have become more pretentious and narrow-minded, this most excellent hybrid will bring the metal world much-needed diversity. MELVIN! DUDULUDUDULUDUDULUDOOOOOOO
dose triplets groove soo effin' hard!!
I love metalcore their vibe is jumpy I like it😂
You're right, it's not metal. It's blues.
Saw these in Dorking last night with shikari. Great band, great atmosphere and really nice! Met them at the merch stand. Keep an eye out!
Everything about these guys reminds me of Enter Shikari. I like it.
Hacktivist has the meshuggah sounds and the rapping vocals of hollywood undead also thats my opinion yet I like this band
they sound nothing like Meshuggah in my own experience having shared the stage with these guys myself. not only that, i find comparing the style of the grime vocalist to the guys from Hollywood undead hilarious given i know that the influence of the Hollywood undead rapper being Eminem... yeah sounds nothing like Eminem imo :P
Sounds nothing like Meshuggah or Hollywood Undead. They are grime MC's for fucks sake.
I never said their music/sounds change because I'm stood a few feet away. I'm merely deflecting the notion that they have a sound allegedly like Meshuggah with reference to the guitar tones having actually heard the guitar tone by itself. Sure, it has it's connotations of a 'djent' tone but that doesn't mean it's a direct rip-off of meshuggah as some people like to claim imo.
Mikeyprs21 on every single video theres a meshuggah debate. All that has to be said about that topic is: music is based on inspiration, the first metal song ever was helter skelter by the beatles, i could sit here and say that all the metal after that (black sabath, pantera etc.) are copying the beatles. HOWEVER music is based on inspiration, sure meshuggah started alot of the diverse rythms in metal, but NOW because bands are INSPIRED by meshuggahs music they want to do something different with that style, their own sound, music is always inpiration from another source, this is how music progesses, people must learn this
Can't wait to see these guys supporting enter shikari in april!
In this form it would be most accurately described as rap metal.
Metal mixed with rap has been around for a looooongg time bro..
it's surprising that no one have commented on the lyrics.. these guys are really fucking geniuses
This is fucking heavy. I am about to buy whatever album this is from. When I heard about rap metal this is what I imagined back in the day when Korn and Slipknot were getting big.
Saw these live with enter shikari! They rocked! Great opening set.
In an interview with Guitar Messenger Periphery guitarist Misha Mansoor said:
I was looking for gear that was djenty. I was like: ‘Are these pickups djenty?’ For some reason it caught on, but completely in the wrong way, because people think it's a style of music and they think it's a style of music I play.
