Wonderful video, Kaci! I learned what this verse actually means and I had always been confused by it. I have heard the statement that God is not like a genie in a bottle before, but then this verse was confusing for me. I also think of the verse where Jesus tells us to pray, even if our faith is as small as a mustard seed and we shall receive it. This meaning also applies to the second verse as we will receive what God wants for us and as we mature biblically, we will be getting what we want cuz we will want what God wants for us. This was good!!! I misunderstood this scripture too for a long time and found myself confused as to its true meaning. I just learned what it really meant recently. I have to get to a mindset that if it's not from God, then I don't want it.
So, as long as we're allowing ourselves to be molded into His will, which is what quite a few scriptures seem to indicate, then we'll get the things He wants us to have.

I come to learn the word coveteous. I think Jeremiah 29:11 is used out of context in the same way this verse has, and perhaps builds up false expectations in new Christians, and when these don't come to pass, a disappointment and disillusionment with God and his Word... would be interested in your thoughts.
Yet the root meaning of the word "desire" means from the Father. So if you have a desire for something (no, not your neighbors wife) then according to that verse He will actually give it, else why give you the desire in the first place?
