I really miss the old Nova buses...So f*cking much. I loved riding them. A couple years ago, in high school, I was late to a couple of classes, cuz I seen a nova on the route, behind a new GILLIG, so I waited for the Nova, just so I could ride it.
Update: novas have been long gone, they retired a a few phantoms, 512 through 515 and I wouldn't be surprised if they retired the old mci’s. Plus there are only a few 2004s left. 951 and 955-960 is all we have left. I expect the 2004s to be gone by the end of the year. Also the fleet is getting overhauled by 2018 gilligs, and the 2002s are gone. It’s a matter of time before they retire the phantoms. #riptheoldies 😰😭
When I first started riding the bus back in late 2010, the transit center used to be full of the old Novas. Now it's down to just 909 and 914. Charlotte is now almost officially GILLIG city, cuz the streets are full of them. The fleet has no variety now that more GILLIGs replaced the novas. I love the old gilligs #915-960 for some reason tho.
I notice that. I wonder why they only kept those two buses. Those Gillig Phantom buses are getting old too. They are 2003 models. Gillig stop making Phantom buses. I wonder what they are going to replace them with? Those are the express buses.
The addition of the modern-day pantograph version really detracts from the antiquated charm of having truly Vintage Streetcars running at street level. An advisal to outfit the trams with European types or even an Asian model certainly surer in aesthetics and functionality -- aside providing enough overhead A/C power to run the streetcars ... without the extra added weight of these current contact levers. Historically speaking it's not impossible. Just research and acquisitions if the entire fleet is a total of [> 10 trams].
I like the 2004 Gilligs as well, which are now 14 years old. I was 7 back then in ‘04, but I still remember when they were brand new.
Charolette sure has some cool mass transit!

Columbia, SC just retired all of their Blue Bird high floor buses and replaced them with New Flyer XD35s. Nothing but New Flyers now.

Durham's Area transit system seems very efficient, effective and clean. Nice!
Uhhh this ain’t Durham buddy
TROLL
I think CATS has added some new buses to it's fleet. I have not seen the old Nova buses in a few days.
MrJlt1978 no they still run around
They retired more. There is a grand total of only two Nova LFS, buses #909 and 914. They retired 10 of them last month.

Triangle Transit buses are nice and clean, but they need to add longer hours of service, so does Go Raleigh transit buses, they suck poorly.
