A fantastic band, very hard to categorize as they have a great variety of styles from very traditional Japanese to fusions like this with rock, even a jazzy number 'Synchronicity' . The band was the brainchild of Yuko Suzuhana the vocalist and pianist sometimes. The line up has always been the same, Yuko obviously on vocals. Machiya on guitar Asa Bass Wasabi Drums Beni Ninagawa on Shamisen, the first traditional instrument you saw. Kiyoshi Ibukuro Koto, the horizontal harp, the national instrument of Japan. Diasuke Kaminaga Shakuhachi, the bamboo flute. Kurona Wasaiko, traditional drums. Other songs worth trying are 'Tengaku', 'Ignite', 'Senbonzakura', probably their most famous song after this one, to name but a few. Their live performances are always great to see and you can find almost everything they've done on Frank Garcia's channel or CC.W who also has subtitles for them.
Wagakki band is made of 8 musicians who each are master of their instrument. They are: - Suzuhana Yuko: singer and shigin (traditional japanese poetry), piano, fan and sometimes sword dance - Machiya: lead guitar - Asa: Bass guitar - Wasabi: western style drum kit - Ninagawa Beni: tsugaru shamisen (the 3 strings instrument) - Ibukuro Kiyoshi: koto (the long horizontal harp like instrument) - Kaminaga Daisuke: shakuhachi (traditional flute) - Kurona: wadaiko (japanese drums) I strongly recommend reacting to their live performances, for two reasons. First one: they are far better on stage than on studio, and they are already great on studio. Second one: their old label usually have reactions to their music video taken down; this doesn't happen with live performances. On title I recommend there is: Sun wheel: a hard hitting rock song ruclips.net/video/n0KNaSyE-H0/видео.html Queen of the night: something very soothing and traditional ruclips.net/video/qsewsLfZ6qg/видео.html Hakushu kassai: a title that give every members a chance to shine ruclips.net/video/5sJnveBvoLw/видео.html Senbonzakura: the cover of the vocaloid song that made them famous ruclips.net/video/Xjwe9WyO8Qs/видео.html Yoshiwara lament: another vocaloid cover, initially written by the bassist ruclips.net/video/7w47mCYXMTk/видео.html Synchronicity: a very jazzy song og body swapping ruclips.net/video/8SNV8s8FJBk/видео.html Hana ni nare: a very poppy song ruclips.net/video/gtA3F2ZKleE/видео.html Slightly different there is also the collaboration they had with Amy Lee for a cover of Bring me to life: ruclips.net/video/hk1GtYK7BJM/видео.html Regarding the mask the guitarist is wearing, it's when it is a song he initially wrote for his solo project and the modified it for Wagakki band. The mask is from the Noh theater and is representing a woman face. Depending on how he look, he can make the face appear smiling or appearing sad.

I'm definitely coming back to them! They are on the recording list I posted yesterday. Now which song, I don't know. All depends on which song gets the most requests. :)
The instrument you're asking about is a shamisen. It sounds fantastic doesn't it? On most Wagakki Band videos on RUclips, you can find the shamisen solo by clicking on the "most replayed" button. The harp-like instrument is a koto. The flute is a shakuhachi, but you can just say "bamboo flute". There are also the traditional drums, which people tend to call taiko (though this is just the Japanese word for drum, and wadaiko would be more precise).
Thank you for the names! Yes, that instrument (shamisen) is so cool. So many words to memorize. I want to be able to pronounce these words correctly and not butcher them. :)
She is playing a Shamisen which means 3 strings it's based on a chinese instrument, that I had to go to wiki to remember a sanxian, the other instrument is called a guzheng in china or a koto in japan. The flute is I think, called a shakuhachi. I think. And yes MISA does play a shamisen in the video. I don't know if she plays one in real life though. I'm not fully into Waggaki as I am other bands, From Wikipedia I got this list of members Yuko Suzuhana (鈴華ゆう子) - vocals Machiya (町屋) - guitar, vocals Beni Ninagawa (蜷川べに) - tsugaru shamisen Kiyoshi Ibukuro (いぶくろ聖志) - koto Asa (亜沙) - bass Daisuke Kaminaga (神永大輔) - shakuhachi Wasabi (山葵) - drums Kurona (黒流) - wadaiko What each plays I don't know yet. I'm not quite as invested in them as I am Band-Maid, Gacharic Spin and Unlucky Morpheus. (Edited to fix list and their intruments)
Thank you! That's alot to remember especially the names! And yes, I was wondering what MISA was playing but then after watching this video and comment, I finally connected the dots. :)
@@redfielduniverse Not at all. I'm still finding new band myself, so I know at first trying to learn and remember things about them can be a little tricky at times. I'm also getting into a lot of bands from back in the 70's from when I grew up that I just didn't have any interest in. THEN. Now though I really enjoy the free form jazz and R&B of a lot of those groups. Some of the ones from eastern europe also are very good, which was surprising as they were behind the iron curtain as part of the warsaw pact. And now a days you can only find rips from vinyl records that aren't the best, but are really good music. If you might be interested in songs from way back then, check out the Terminal Passage RUclips channel.
@@greylocke100 I'm very hesitant to listen to anything before the year 1995. It'll probably take a while to get to it, but I'll check it out in the future. Got loads of Japanese music to listen to! :)

Hey look I'm here to not just BAND-MAID. WAGGAKI BAND are my next favorite as you can see they are awesome as well.
Oop, so recommendations later hopefully! :)
