Watching Fox play and Makar play is mind bending. Fox creates plays with his skills, and Makar MAKEs plays with his skills. Makar is so fast and skilled. I bought my son a Fox jersey for xmas, will likely need to hedge that investment with a Makar jersey.
I was at the game where he made his NHL debut in the playoffs. He scored on his first shot. I knew this guy was good, I didn't know he was THIS good. If he stays healthy I firmly believe he will be in the HOF someday.
I, too, remember when he scored on his first shot in that game against Calgary, looking as poised and confident as if he had been doing it in the NHL for 10 years. Once in a generation talent.

We all knew he was good, but he just keeps elevating his game. MacKinnon might be the second best player on the Avs roster now. That's how good Cale is.
You could even make the case that MacKinnon is the third best player behind Rantanen as well. And that's not a knock on MacKinnon at all, the Avs just have some absolutely filthy young talent on their roster.
In 2026 the Blizarian variant will be running wild and we'll all have to line up at Pfzier-Mart for our 43rd booster. Another 4 years to flatten the curve.

By the time he starts his pursuit it's a footrace anymore. That's what elite skating can do. Not to say Dach isn't a good skater himself, but it's moments like these that showcase what probably less than 5 humans on earth could accomplish.

As an Avs fan I definitely concur that Makar is the better player, but Hughes has also been sensational this year. If the Canucks can get better (still not certain how sustainable the early Boudreau success is), Hughes will definitely be in Norris contention.
