I get a completely different feeling watching the true elite players play from your average to good players. It's hard to describe. I'm an Avs fan and when Forsberg and Sakic played, you knew magic was happening in every game from them. Doing something jaw dropping in almost every game. Makar has that same effect. I'm lucky to see MacKinnon and Makar play and have that same effect that was missing for me for 12+ years
Even the worst NHL player is on totally different level. When I lived in Canada, I played pick up hockey with some ex NHL players and they truly are on another level. They were all retired players but even this old timer Ted Bulley who use to come out. He was a tough guy 4th liner in the 70s and 80s. But the way he skated and shot the puck was just different. He was freakin "dirty" too that old sob haha!! I played Junior but was never anywhere close to making even the ECHL lol but I use to be able to hold my own against that level in my younger days. Not vs NHL regulars tho not an effin chance.

I've played against AAA, major juniors, college, etc., and because I'm fast (faster than most the NHL actually), I can keep up or at least get in the way. But the pros are something different. They don't need the speed or anything flashy to beat me when we're out there together, and they make it look easy. One of the guys played for the Colorado Eagles, and we had a discussion about the skills, speed, etc., and he said that is all necessary, but the knowledge is the number one aspect, and not just having the knowledge, but having it ingrained from early childhood because then it gives them insight into what is about to occur a quarter second to a second ahead of everyone else. I got skated around a few times, lol.

one of his biggest traits is loyalty (like how he said wait to the avs for a year or so after they drafted him and the whl team before that as well to stick with umass for a bit) so i'm kind of hoping he sticks around with colorado for his whole career honestly.
He just might! Sakic is quite the manager, and captain; he is very popular among the players (league-wide) and he and Makar both seem like they have that humble yet elite vibe. He's a perfect fit for the Avs right now. The dude is changing the game though and hopefully the Avs can find more players willing to play this style! Glad he's on our side!!

The no.1 highlight is insane at every level you look at it. Even starting how he picked the puck at the boards, then how he handled his stick and puck extended, then scanned zone for opportunities and then proceeds to do the magic. And yes, thats all was at crazy level of technique.

This video does not do Makar Justice at all. It just shows his offensive plays and some hits, the hell? where's the defensive and offensive play that caused two Calgary players to leave the west?

Anything else takes too much explanation, like how he created the goal scoring opportunity for which he received any of his assists, and I guess breaking up a dangerous scoring chance just isn't as much fun to watch as that goal against Chicago. (Which, BTW, will be in any career highlight reel when he retires and when he's inducted into the HHOF, perhaps as the top play like it has been for every video about him since he scored it.)
The three best Defenseman in my eyes are as Follows. Bobby Orr, Ray Boruqe and Cale. 24 years of age and Makar has cemented his place in the NHL history books.
NHL teams are already doing that. The Avs did their homework and really scouted Cale. Avs waited 2 years for Cake to move to the NHL. The Avs didn't rush him, most teams do.
Actually it shows how great a player Makar is, beats both Dach and Fleury with his skating and stick handling. Dach will have his work cut out for him in Montreal and Cale will be continue to be the best D man around.

Kucherov has had some great seasons, but Makar had 86 points this season which would be the third best season of Kuch's career. Makar's 86 points would be a career high for Hedman who has been in the league for a decade. MacKinnon is a monster as well and is currently a better all around player, but Makar at his age is doing better than any of those players at this point in their careers. Makar is better and he makes Hedman look like a 2nd pair defenseman.

Makar's physical game doesn't get enough credit, he's not a big/heavy player (by NHL standards), but he he's athletic and his hits are timed to perfection. Very cool to watch 😎
