How is the muslim community in Vermont? Are there very little muslims living in Vermont? Considering a move in the future because Vermont look so beautiful 🥺
I live in Vermont and as much as I wanted to leave when I was “younger” I love it now that I’m raising my little family here. Winters suck but we wouldn’t leave irregardless ☺️
I like the 4 seasons. Would you like to move south where the summers are 99 degrees and you can't go outside in the summer? How about the lizards, insects and alligators? What about hurricanes, or tornadoes? I'm happy here. Fireplace, wine and baked cookies...that's the life .
I absolutely love Vermont. It’s one of my favorite places to visit. I understand they have issues with housing prices and jobs but I found this whole thing to be rude, mocking, insulting and sarcastic. There’s tons to do there, the people are lovely, the nature is gorgeous. The fact that it doesn’t have McDonald’s everywhere and ugly billboards is one of the attractions.
As a Vermonter seeing St Albans, Newport and Barre labelled as "Welfare" I knew it was going to be accurate, but when I didn't see a special label for Rutland I got skeptical
Some things to clarify. -There is a Target -I moved to Vermont less than two years ago and it’s been growing, not like some other states, but homes are selling within 4 days for more than the asking price. -Depending on where you live you can get to the New Hampshire/Maine coastline in a couple hours and the beaches are beautiful. -We have Sea Gulls, super weird to see, but they’re here. -Schools are amazing!!! -Maple Creamee(maple soft serve with a higher fat content) is like nothing I’ve had anywhere in the Country. -True Vermonters are the nicest people you’ll meet. -Even with the snow the roads are kept plowed better than any other state I’ve lived or traveled too, which is too many. Having lived in many places, Vermont is in my top three. Highly recommend Vermont!!!
I love Vermont! The geography is amazing, people are chill, there's room to spread out and people give you privacy. It's Live and Let Live. True, good jobs are hard to find, winters are long, and there is a drug problem but overall it's a wonderful place.
If there was one state I could live in for the rest of my life it would be Vermont. The low population, lots of nature, the winters, the culture, and closeness to the other New England states and the Canadian border make Vermont so appealing to me.
I live across the river in NH on rte 4. Just go over the conn river bridge into VT and the landscape becomes 10 times more beautiful. Wonderful state, folks on my side of the river are not as nice for some reason.
Agreed. Funny how he's knocking taxes for welfare for the people in need. Ironic, that governments according to the Declaration of Independence is made for the General Welfare of the People. In those big big states the corporations are the welfare recipients.
As a flatlander I moved to Rutland in 2004 and stayed for almost 15 years. Made many friends young and old, hippies and Yankees. Vermonters are very community minded, good and welcoming people. The natural beauty of the state combined with its preserved colonial history and "green" environmental policies (no highway or road billboards) create breathtaking scenery. Great place to raise a family or grow old in. Sadly the young people I met who cherished the simple rustic beauty of Vermont life but who were not "educated", white collar workers can not find the type of employment to sustain a good living. Many turn to drugs facing a future without the possibility of upward economic mobility.
Blippity Blah lets trade houses for the summer. Actually Idk if my husband is on board with that. So I'll trade you a house, it comes with a husband. And kids! Haha just kidding. Kind of.
@@jmongmon1100 No, and it isn't necessary to insult my intelligence with the Trump reference. I do have a sister that works in the largest hospital in Vermont and the numbers have been spiking. You probably listen to Tucker Carlson to get your information. Using number like 12K has no significance unless you include total population. I live in a single City In NC with a population much larger then all of Vermont and the entire county to this date has had 67 thousand since the beginning with only 444 deaths. It's all a matter of percentages of population. Vermont did stay pretty stable in the beginning but has started to increase more recently. Having lived there for 50 years, I am completely aware of the population centers and the natural geography for social distancing. There is nothing there to draw a crowd. That makes a huge difference. I did word my statement wrong because I meant to say that it was "starting to catch up", not that it had caught up. That was my error.

I am an older millennial with a family. We are moving to Vermont this summer. We have wanted to move to Vermont for a few years now. We left Ohio for the south and we don't like living in the south. We want quiet, wilderness, community, progressive, country life. It's seems to be the best state to find that. Can't wait to be a Vermonter.
I'm from outside Cleveland originally, moved to the Charlotte nc area in 90. I absolutely hate it here, I really tried to find good people and a sense of community, inclusion. I found NONE of that. Only fake nice, and ignorance, especially if your life doesn't revolve around kids. Also, no where to swim unless you have friends on the lake or a boat. I'm seriously considering Vermont at this point. I'm 57, love to cook, garden, art, animals, peace, quiet, intelligent conversations and Bernie.
@@sherrym5556 I'm in Cincinnati and will be retiring in a few years. I would love to live in Vermont as I have relatives in Maine and have visited Vermont a few times. Funny I also have in-laws in Charlotte but new buildings are springing up like mushrooms there and it reminds me of being in a giant sci-fi movie. Too sterile and antiseptic!
drove to Vermont from Toronto about 15 years ago with my bro visiting Burlington and Stowe. the most unique place I have seen in Canada and the USA. most places looked like out of a postcard, very clean and natural. Vermonters have kept a way of life that has disappeared almost everywhere else but it's sad that the middle class is leaving and it's either the wealthy or the welfare living there which seems to be a trend in lots of places these days. I would love to visit soon and go around the entire state this time.
Hi Paul. Have you ever heard of Titus mountain. It’s a ski lodge near Malone NY. I’m 43. And when I was very young I was a experienced skier by the time I was in fifth grade. When I look back now I realize that if my parents could afford a ski instructor to help me advance. I might have been able to make it to the olympics. But unfortunately my parents couldn’t afford it.
I've lived in Vermont my whole life. Vermont is the prettiest and cleanest state in the entire United States. I know this as I've traveled almost all 50 states. We Vermonters love our neighbors and communities and enjoy helping others and spending time with people whom we are not related too. We have beautiful lakes and ponds that many of us spend every day at in the summer, breathing in the freshest air in the usa and swimming in the cleanest bodies of water. While it does get very cold in the winter, the warm summers make up for it. We are not all the same, not everyone is into drugs, or a hippie, or reserved. We are also the most loving state. We welcome everyone from everywhere and show them all love and respect. We are definitely not all libs and I resent that many think the entire state is all liberals.. 🤔
How has no one mentioned that the best and most exciting city in the world, Montreal, is less than 2 hour drive away (from Burlington)? That was the number 2 reason I moved to Vermont (coming from Boston and San Francisco). The number 1 reason I moved to Vermont is because it’s Vermont! :)

I lived in Vermont in the 70's to the early 80's. Still miss it. bone thing is that for me, I had to be able to go to.NYC Boston or Philadelphia to get some city life. Independent and liberal..Vermont.
I have cabin in north east Vermont, - love it, seen bears, moose, all kinds of wildlife, when I first bought land up there I would sit for hours and be amazed at the quietness, not even planes fly overhead, the cold is unbelievable, -25F, my tools were snapping, so much snow I would laugh, 8 ft and not a snowflake melted, had to enter my cabin through windows, the people are very nice, will help you and refuse money
I think from my career field, Vermont has the best people in the entire USA. I have friends in Vermont, the Carters, they live in Jericho, awesome personality and full of life. I would live here in the blink of an eye.
Believe it or not, a lot of New Yorkers have been moving to Vermont over the past year, and it’s become one of the top states for people fleeing places like NYC and Boston.
Yup but the probably with that is most if these people have money a buy up our mountain sides ,and get into local government to try to change Vermont ..but it is getting harder to live here ..and I've seen lots of new houses built . It's hard to live here on a 34,000 dollars salary ..and be able to afford land and taxes .. vehicles don't last long in VT and it's expensive to have to buy a new car every 5 years or because of rust..most roads and Bridges are bad , and good paying jobs with benefits are scars. ..and Subaru is probably top vehicle . But Toyota trucks ,and jeep are on list ..if you live here you really do need all wheel drive..
😂 “It’s ok if you’re from Massachusetts.” Haha true. That poor guy asking about Vermont’s beaches... I hope he likes frigid lake water with pebbly cold grassy sandy shores surrounded by pine trees.
@Dielibs : Yea anyone who thinks they should drive slowly in the left passing lane because they’re “driving fast enough” and are unaware that they are the sole cause of all the traffic 10 miles behind them... use the term Masshole. “That guy wants to pass me.. I was going 60 but now I’m going to speed up to 90 when he tries to pass. What a Masshole, this is my lane.”
That would be the NorthEast Kingdom :) My favorite part of Vermont :) 2:30 I'm so glad others aren't wanting to go there :) I've watched too much of my relative's farmland develop into housing projects, and the farmhouses used as bed and breakfasts. It's no longer the Vermont that I grew up knowing. I miss it. The way it was that is. Our family farm was sold to a physician in retirement, I wanted to stop in, say hello, and get permission to look over the barn my great grandfather built. He shut the door on us after simply saying NO. Welcome to the NEW Vermont. A haven for some very unfriendly wealthy retired folks.
I too want to move to Vermont. I'm a native of Washington, DC and have lived in Philly, NYC, and the Raleigh-Durham Area. One of my best friends, who is like a sister to me, is from Bennington. The first time I visited was in 2005, I didn't know what to expect. I had never been North of NYC, I'm a straight up city boy, and being of color, I was kind of nervous. After 1 day that nervousness was gone, I absolutely fell in love with the place; and it was Mud Season. The people are so laid back and nice, but will tell you what's on their minds with no filter. I love the whole vibe and attitude of the people. I try to make it up there to visit my now adopted family at least once a year. Not really looking forward to the Winters, but on the plus side, I do own a Subaru Forester. Lol.

I just want you to know how much I enjoy your videos. I have watched many of them, even the ones from my home state - NM. You always do a great job putting relevant content in the videos, being specific on why something is great or not so great and being very thorough on your research about the areas you discuss. I love your light hearted sense of humor and your silly anecdotes. They bring a sense of commonality to the viewer and help us to feel like we are all friends, just hanging out. I like the background music as well; its not too loud, not too abstruse, it fits the video perfectly. I also enjoy your side-kick “mappy”, it’s stilly and makes me laugh. I also really enjoy the interviews you do in some of your videos. They are very well thought out and discuss some very important topics. Thanks for all you do and I hope you continue to succeed!
I'm from western MA and have lived on the border of VT for most of my life. I've had/have many friends in VT and family history in VT (Brattleboro area). Vermont is an awesome state, very beautiful, very green, and the Champlain Valley is about as gorgeous as it gets in the US. I've worked all throughout the state, from Bratt and Bennington to St. Albans and St. Johnsbury. The people are very friendly and I'd move there in a heartbeat (and may at some point).
@@NickJohnson I was just watching this video again and, about 3 years ago, I did actually move to Vermont when a job and living situation presented themselves. It was a totally unplanned move, but I'm living in Bennington and I love it. It's a beautiful area and Albany and the Capitol Region of NY are less than an hour away, so there are places to go if you enjoy live music like I do, but I've always traveled all over New England and upstate NY for that anyway. The only thing I would complain about is that Bennington is largely devoid of good cuisine; have to travel for that too.
As for cultural diversity, VT is improving in the south, where it borders MA. A lot of young college students come here to work at the ski resorts and in local businesses. Most of them love it and I've noticed some moving here. They love the beauty, nature, seasons, etc. but acknowledge it's expensive and apartments are hard to find. There's good Indian and Asian cuisine in Brattleboro and even in Wilmington, a big tourist town during almost all seasons (just a small lull in the spring, when locals get to catch their breath). However, MA is just a short drive once you have a car and there's a lot of great food in the Pioneer Valley and the Berkshires. Wilmington is such a tourist area that I like to play a game: see if I can spot three cars in a row with VT plates. It's difficult in most seasons, driving or parked. The trade-off is the nature. The Green Mountain National Forest is right here in Southern VT, the gateway to traveling up Rt.100 through the Green Mountains and a land of skiing, hiking, fishing, boating, camping and all the outdoor sports you could want. Oh, and a little tip: the best food is often found at Vermont's awesome country stores and not at the restaurants, at least from my experience.

Thanks for the plug about recovery, Nick. And you're correct: The addicts and alcoholics CAN do it! I'd forgotten Karen M. had worked at Walmart. Somehow, that's a fitting job site for her.
There’s an old story about some tourists who asked a dour Vermont farmer how to get to Bennington. He looked them up and down, thought for a while, and muttered, “You can’t get there from here.”
Yeah. I lived next door for years. The family is great. The old lodge and cost to stay and dine was reasonable. But nowadays even within all this American Greed, it is very expensive. That’s what happens when a village businesses think they are the Aspen of the East.
Listened for 45 seconds and decided you're no expert on Vermont culture or native Vermonters. Don't move here! It's way too cold for most people and there is nothing to do. Just the way we like it. Less people=a better Vermont
Not actually true. It was embroiled in disputes about just whether Vermont was part of NH or part of New York state. It was not considered part of the original 13 colonies because it was felt that even Canada wanted a piece of it. Vermont eventually claimed its independence from all those places, and thanks to Ethan Allen and the Green Mtn. Boys it became the 14th state.

-There is a Target
-I moved to Vermont less than two years ago and it’s been growing, not like some other states, but homes are selling within 4 days for more than the asking price.

I live in a single City In NC with a population much larger then all of Vermont and the entire county to this date has had 67 thousand since the beginning with only 444 deaths. It's all a matter of percentages of population. Vermont did stay pretty stable in the beginning but has started to increase more recently.
Cool! I like lake Champlain too.
I just about laughed to death listening to the interview of the guy in PR - both listening to him and watching Nicks face. I grew up in VT and made the Big(?) move over the river to NH so It was fun to listen to his comments!

@@NickJohnson I'm jumping from Florida to Vermont so I guess it's a thing. HA
Burlington and the surrounding college towns are great areas. I live there at the moment and I really like it.
Many Hispanics there? How would Mexican Americans be treated there?
Good deal Nick. I once did a weird puppet show in Brattleboro. It was the most exciting thing happening in the town that night.
Do you do puppet shows? Email me!
Bread and puppet brah
We went to Vermont in October. It was amazing so incredibly beautiful. We actually want to move there.
I’ve been planning to want to move there myself
Nick, please unbox New Hampshire next as a comparison.
Yes New Hampshire
This is the video I’ve been waiting for the most
@@darllington8995 I live in New Hampshire so I want to know how good he would do
@@bethannneal5799 New Hampshire is the number one state I wanna live, how do you like it there?
@@darllington8995 Its very beautiful in the North part of New Hampshire but I would no live in south part of New Hampshire don't live in the Lakes Region unless you're rich
You missed Champ and Creemees!! No but really, I was born and raised here, aside from 7 years in NH I have lived in VT my whole life. I'd say you are pretty spot on with everything! My husband and I can't imagine living anywhere else, (we HATED NH) we call Vermont home. We just bought an 1849 farm home up north in a very small town (less than 2,000 people) and we ABSOLUTELY love it. our neighbors are so friendly, welcoming and helpful. the downside is my husband does have to commute 4 days a week into Chittenden county for work, but I work from home for the largest hospital in the state. Thanks for covering our beautiful state! :)
Brother, you make me love those lands. Greetings from Mexico.
Same here dude, never been to the states but I'm learning where to go and where to stay away lol.
for example, I have everything to enjoy Montana; I have a good beard, I love bars, forests, rivers, and cowboy hats. Native reserves seem extremely interesting to me.
Move to Vermont from Mexico and open a restaurant. Everyone will love you!
As a native, I really love reviews like this. Thank You, Nick 👍
Ok Kim ❤️
Thanks for the plug about recovery, Nick. And you're correct: The addicts and alcoholics CAN do it!
I'd forgotten Karen M. had worked at Walmart. Somehow, that's a fitting job site for her.
She won't ever do that again I think she was trying to prove a point Frank
There’s an old story about some tourists who asked a dour Vermont farmer how to get to Bennington. He looked them up and down, thought for a while, and muttered, “You can’t get there from here.”
Actually you can get a dump now for 200k. A lot of the homes in woods are cheaper than town around Brattleboro.
I love Vermont. It’s so beautiful, and such a relaxed state to visit.
I live in vermont not a hippie and love meat but I love this video and the stareotypes and attention our state got. Good job on the song!
WE LOVE your videos! You are hilarious and bring unique content! Thank you for taking the time to share these!
Stowe, VT has a well known tourist trap and resort- The Trapp Family Lodge. The family that the well known movie "The Sound of Music" was based upon.
Yeah. I lived next door for years. The family is great. The old lodge and cost to stay and dine was reasonable. But nowadays even within all this American Greed, it is very expensive. That’s what happens when a village businesses think they are the Aspen of the East.
you called Vermont "Maine" at 4:02- understandable haha
Yeah, and "NORTH WEST KINGDOM"???
Especially when about drug problems lol
16:52 shows Subarus with New Jersey plates.
I noticed that he called Vermont "Maine" too.
Listened for 45 seconds and decided you're no expert on Vermont culture or native Vermonters. Don't move here! It's way too cold for most people and there is nothing to do. Just the way we like it. Less people=a better Vermont
I’m moving from England to Vermont and I can’t wait :)
Stella - welcome!! ❤️❤️ 🏴 🇺🇸
Vermont is nice. I loved the fishing and mountains. Now I'm old and happy in Florida.
Lots of people are moving here actually. We moved here 4 yrs ago and love it! I'll forever be a Vermonter no matter where I am now.
The pandemic has people buying up property from the big cities in other states
Vermont, like Texas, used to be it's own country.
It was apart of New York.
I also liked Vermont so much very quiet and i have never seen snow in my life, thank you Nick for your videos i love them and i hope you come to Dubai 😍😍😍
I'd love to come to Dubai - where should I stay?
@@NickJohnson downtown area is so amazing there is a alot to do in winter until around april but after that it gets very hot like Arizona or even worse
What do you mean there isn't a Target? We've got one in South Burlington. Admittedly, it's not very good, but still...
On a side note, it's a crime that you didn't mention the Von Trapp family.
Do many of the family members still live there. The great grandkids were popular about 10 years ago. I liked their music.
I would love vermont. Nice warm house. Yarn knitting. Beautiful countryside
Dude I was literally about to ask for this one in a comment. A true clairvoyant 🤩
I KNEW IT John!!
I would love to visit Vermont as it is the top of the Appalachian Trail, and the birthplace of Ben & Jerry's, currently my favorite ice cream brand. Property and sales tax wise, it can be compared to PR, both are expensive. I also believe that lack of crime may be directly proportional to the amount of outdoor activity opportunities for folks to clear their minds out of doing harmful things. I have heard it is not as friendly to people who wants to sleep overnight on the road. You win some, you lose some. Thanks for sharing!
My auntie lives in New Hampshire near the border with Vermont and NH people don't like Vermont drivers because they drive slowly. Whenever she would see someone driving with Vermont license plates in front of her she would say "these god damn Vermonts!"
I grew up In Vermont graduated from Essex Junction educational center I also worked at IBM for a time until I got married at 21 and moved to California. What a shock I had when I saw what life really is the different culture I was blow away. What a big city is. I never seen any other culture except white while growing up there.
I’ve lived in California all my life and I wish to visit so many different states in the US like Vermont but I feel that I would feel so out of place for that very reason, it’s crazy how life can be so very different for people living in the same country.
@@ezrayofsunshine they have people from all walks of life and race you differently would not be out of place.Warning it is a much slower pace of life than you are used to but beautiful to see.
I feel like I would love living in Vermont. Beautiful, peaceful state to be id imagine.
Hi Nickbear!!! 🐻🐑
Another great video!!!! Vermont seems chill and peaceful. I love ice cream 🍦 You look adorable in your blue outfit 🙂
We enjoy your positive vibes as always. ♥️
Hey Nick ....thank you for educating people on our states ....I'm originally from New York city ...I moved to Vermont before the age of 40 ...lol ...no I'm not super rich ...in fact I came from the worst part of America crime wise ....( East N.Y. / Brownsville/ Bed Stuy) ...I came here to get away from the crime ! ....I'm proud to call Vermont home ....the best decision I ever made in my life . ...its quiet ...no hood drama ...yes ...northeast kingdom (st johnsbury and lyndonville) are a scourge ..and barre ...there i said it ..lol .....anyway ...coming from the ghetto ...i love vermont...one mans trash is a ne***'s treasure...right ....anyway ..you're very informative and funny ...thank you ...I learned alot about the states I once lived in ...( N.Y. , MASS , FLORIDA and VERMONT ) ....you're right about Vermont....as progressive as is always been (I'm black ..this is the first abolitionist state...they refused to become a state until slavery was abolished..fun fact Thomas Chittenden and Ethan Allen actually fought to keep it that way) ...ironically the lack of job opportunities have kept people away ...hopefully those CONSERVATIVES in our state (yes we do have them ..though very few ) join the 21st century and embrace the TECHNOLOGY that can bring jobs to vermont ....I think our problem is very fixable ....we need more tech jobs here ....kids *millennials and gen zers* are not going to move here because of nature ....which we have alot of ...anyway thank you ...keep up the great work ...
You make such a great point about the tech scene/sector being non-existent in Vermont. As a someone who works in tech in NYC, I appreciate the fact that there is no tech scene as of yet, if ever. If technology is not introduced/adopted wisely in Vermont, I believe it can do more harm than good. Look up Martin Heidegger's "The Question Concerning Technology" it is a great read.
I am from the worst parts of Brooklyn myself, so I understand your point.
I was raised in Brownsville and I live in VT too! Hood drama is so annoying. I left to pursue a job opp. best decision for me too.
The state is run entirely by liberals yet you blame conservatives for lack of jobs.sounds fishy to me
Vermont doesn't have a lot of jobs but it does have plenty of hidden attractions for locals and tourist to explore. Vermont is more of a lay back state than a fun state. The closest major city besides Burlington, VT is Montreal, QUE.
Highly recommend Shelburne and Stowe as places to visit. Go see Hildene as well!
I moved up here to be near family after decades of living down south. The first winter was horrendous. I live in Morrisville. I love the laid back environment and no ugly signs on the interstate. I am here to stay.
A very small community. Very rural. We have 1 McDonalds and 1 Dunkin Donuts, 2 grocery stores, and big lots. Morisvile itself only has about 2,000 residents. All he big stores are about 25 miles away in the bigger cities. This is a nice place to retire because it is very quiet and peaceful. Vermont can be a little expensive compared to most states.
I intend doing my LLM degree at University of Vermont. What do you think?
I love Vermont, any time of year, but in the fall, no place is more beautiful.
I was just there during mud season yuck
@@NickJohnson But that's when the rivers are highest. Things firm up a couple weeks after the thaw. But I know what you mean. I lived on a dirt road in Maine for a couple of years. I've seen 4 wheel drive vehicles stuck in the mud. I'm a city boy now, but Vermont is great when you need some peace and quiet. Burlington is really cool for a small city. I think they have a really good balance of life up there.
Puerto Rico is beautiful. The spanish heritage and the tropical flair are amazing. 🙂
John LeClair is from St. Albans
Thank you 🙂 We have a rainforest too! Come visit and explore some time.
We have a Target in Burlington and we’re getting a second one. There’s a really active music scene (before the pandemic) and now that lots of people have the ability to work remotely we have people moving in from out of state as we’ve done really well with the pandemic and the schools especially in my area (Middlebury) are really strong. Oh, and neither my husband or I drive a Subaru. 😂
Cool Alexis thanks!
I'm thinking in moving to Vermont next year. It seems such a lovely place.
But, after some research... Now I'm wondering... As a Single and Hispanic and still learning the language. Would I be welcomed to the place, or would I be just the weirdo and left outcasted ? 🥲
@@MarcoEmm I'm from whyte ppl but my family is mixed and I'm wondering the same thing.
@@silverbat5873 Yeah it's important to consider a lot of things before relocating.
If so, when would you be moving ?
I knew there was going to be a reference to Phish. Good catch with the Subaru. Vermonters have been driving them as far back as the 1980s.
It's the AWD. A real advantage in a VT winter.
Yeah they're cheap, light, good on gas and either little 4x4's or AWD's to climb the hills and valleys they have. I never seen so many Subaru's in my life, anywhere else. In my state, people don't really buy them, they're not popular.
Hahaha :) I absolutely loved the descriptive map as well as the song at the end. Quite entertaining.
I'm glad 😘
Love the skiing. I love the safe way of life
Gotta love the look on his face whenever he interviews people😂
Hi. I'm Larry this is my Brother Darryl and my other Brother Darryl.
Dude I'm a vermonter now lives in New Jersey and I got to tell you I didn't think anybody remembers that so glad you posted it made me laugh for like 20 minutes so damn true LOL
Came here from watching Newhart ,lol
Wow! I love VT! I went to college there and then stayed- I think, perhaps, you are being a bit unfair- 🌻💕
i was just direct :)
If you like farmer's markets Vermont has the best. Vermonters are very creative and quality conscious and they know a lot about what they're selling. That's one of the reasons I go there.
