- CHARMAINE! - Waltz
(Louis Leazer - Erno Rapee)
B.F. Goodrich Silvertown Cord Orchestra
Vocal Refrain by The Silver-Masked Tenor
Victor 20892-B, 1927.
"Charmaine!" is one of the songs that really seems to capture the spirit of the 1920s. I especially like this version, with the somewhat affected singing voice of the Silver-Masked Tenor (Joseph M. White) perfect for the lyrics expressing love's yearning! The Silvertown Orchestra was a radio show sponsored by the B.F. Goodrich rubber company in the 1920s and '30s.
"Charmaine!" was the theme song of the movie "What Price Glory", released in the fall of 1926, with a synchronized musical score.
This is side B of the record, which is one of many from my family collection. The other side is "Roam on, My Little Gypsy Sweetheart." Different orchestras are featured on each side.
The Japanese plum trees put on quite a show this year, reaching full-bloom around Valentine's Day.
"I wonder why you keep me waiting?" Charmaine cries in vain.
"I wonder when bluebirds are mating, will you come back again?
I wonder if I keep on praying, will our dreams be the same?
I wonder if you ever think of me too."
I'm waiting, Charmaine, for you!
“Mr Jingles? Where you been boy? Been looking all over for you!”
Yes that movie inspired me to research this song. I love this old music!
I'm glad someone else came to this because of the Green Mile!!!
Beautiful song ❤. Song reminds me of my beautiful wife Judy ❤❤. I miss her so much 😂. I love you so much Yobo 😂❤. I love you ❤️😘
Our neighbor ( my mother’s dear friend) suggested the name Charmaine for me & my Mother loved it &I like my name. I like the Frank Sinatra version best it also has all the words 😉
Yea this was in the green mile in the beginning at the old folks home in the hallway! Great tune.
Race for your life, Charlie Brown!!
That’s JUST what brought me here; the scene where the entire gang is at the cabin, Peppermint Patty finds a Victrola and a record with this song on it and asks of Charlie Brown, “I bet you don’t even know what a waltz is, Chuck,” as always simply her way of belittling him as she winds the crank, the music starts to play and she and Snoopy begin to waltz to this. VERY 1920s. :)
My parents were together since they were 16 years old and my father named me Charmaine.

Love this song so much! Sung By Sir Robert Whites Father!
My dad named me after this song. I never knew there were so many versions. Dad used to play the lead singer from the Platters, was the one he played. I like my name.
Não há como não gostar desta composição. Belíssima e atual.
Ich liebe die Bewegung in den Augen. Sie haben einen großartigen Sinn für Humor.
When this song starts I always feel like I was part of a Tom and Jerry episode.
Joseph M. White, aka "The Silver-Masked Tenor" was the father of tenor Robert White.
Awesome version of this great, great old melody. Quite a find. Thanks for uploading!
Very strange. This song is in my head & I can’t exorcise it
Amazing
@abendstunde49 His actual identity was Joseph M. White, aka "The Silver-Masked Tenor". The orchestra was called the The Goodrich Silvertown Orchestra because their radio sponsor was Goodrich tires. He was so famouse in the 1920's that he needed police escorts to enter theatres where he preformed:-)
THIS WAS FROM THE MOTION PIC RACE FOR YOUR LIFE CHARLIE BROWN (1977) UFS

0:14 Mary Ann: The rain is stopping, the sun is out, and there's a beautiful rainbow across the sky.
Here are the children all ready and play.
Each dressed in own special way: Red trousers, yellow skirts, blue and green sneakers, bright colored shirts.
Louie: All different faces: Pink face, and tan face, pale face, and brown.
Blue eyes, and green eyes.
Mary Ann: And black eyes.
Louie: Oh!
Mary Ann: And white smile.
Louie: And frown.
I wonder why you keep me waiting
Charmaine, cries in vain
I wonder when bluebirds are mating
Will you come back again
I wonder if I keep on praying
Will our dreams be the same
I wonder if you ever think of me too
I'm waiting, charmaine, for you
Playtime is over, it's been in a long day: Take a bath in your tub, getting on your PJs, brush your teeth, climb into your bed, hug your favorite teddy all brown, turn off the light, and lay your body down.
Mary Ann: Dream about Disney world.
A castle in Orlando Florida.
Louie: Dream about tomorrow, and we'll all get together again.
Cakes and ice cream for your dessert.
And we hope have fun spending time dreams come true.
Sweet dreams.
Oh this was beautiful!
i have never heard this version before, beautiful!:)

LOVELY
From "What Price Glory"(Fox 1926)
This popular 1926 waltz's music dated back to 1914 by the Hungarian Erno Rapee.
Anyone brought here by Race for Your Life Charlie Brown?
Oh Yes It Is, A Little Fragment
Me!
Beautiful plum trees! Beautiful gardens! Are they in California?
Vielen Dank. Schoen.

A rocker from the fifties also recorded this song: his name is Bill Haley !!!
@abendstunde49 I think it was because he was wearing a mask. Given the popularity of romantic figures such as masked bandidos and The Mark of Zorro with Douglas Fairbanks in 1920, it does not suprise me that the mysterious tenor would have mass appeal at the time:-)
