    If the premise of your video is how to professionally paint a motorcycle with a can, perhaps it would have been instructive to actually show the painting with a can.

      Yes, the problem is that over spray kills my camera lenses. I can afford to buy a new o e every time I want to film painting a part. If you are willing to lend me your camera for that purpose I'd be more than happy to film the whole process.

    budget doesn't always mean rattle cans, I have found that rattle cans are actually more expensive than buying paint by the quart and spraying with a gun. For that same amount of money you can buy paint by the quarts and spray more than one project with it, Sand paper and masking tape are your actual biggest expenses!

    My paint keeps doing the wrinkle thing every time I put clear on it. Maby you can help please. I'm using all same brand paint. I use water and soap to sand and then all looks good. I put the clear on when it dry and then it all starts to wrinkle and shrink. I put hard work in my job and it gets ruined by clear. Again all paint and clear is the same brand.

    Great looking job Mackie. A couple additional tips for those wanting to do this 1.) Be careful to ensure the primer, guide coat, and top coat are compatible. You can't for instance use a lacquer top coat over an alkyd resin (enamel) guide coat. The lacquer may bubble the guide coat in that case. 2.) There are 2-pack rattle cans available. They have two compartments. Press a button on the can and the catalyst mixes with the paint. The can then has a pot life.

      MackieBass that’s cool, I’m a skyward fan myself. I only ask because of the times in which we live and the real reason that flag was created. It may have been acceptable to display that flag and deny its origins but i think that time has past. I think if we are to move forward as a united people we must tear down symbols of oppression and give everyone a safe space and to feel comfortable. You seen to be from across the pond so I’m assuming you may not be aware of the pain and hurt that flag and what it stood for hurts some people.
      Anyways i do enjoy your vids but i would ask that you do a deep dive on that flag and ask yourself if it represents who you are an what you stand for. If the answer is no then you should consider removing it and let that chapter of history be just that, history. 😁

    I’m about to repaint my entire bike. Do you not wetsand between every coat of paint and primer?

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  5 лет назад

      You can do, depends of what kind of finish you get. You can wait and sand down between the coats, yes. Not always neccesary.

    • @MurrMan23
      @MurrMan23 5 лет назад

      MackieBass ok thanks for the advice. Basically from what I’ve seen, a gloss finish all depends on proper wet sanding especially between clear coat. Then rubbing compound then swirl remover. That’s my plan anyway

    Im in the middle of repainting mine. Not going back to the bare metal though, have used paint thinner to remove the top layer of colour, and going to wet and dry the colour underneath. Then bang a new colour on, hope it'll work haha!

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  6 лет назад +1

      It should work Ricky, just give it good airing before applying the top colour, as sometyimes the thinner canget some real nasty reaction as it hides in the "pores" of the existing paint.

    • @rickyevans3845
      @rickyevans3845 6 лет назад

      well the top layer came off easy (previous owner didnt lacquer top coat, so it run when petrol touched it) i now have the underneath colou showing awaiting the wet and dry, 600 grit. The colour right now is a very dull green, any colours (apart from black) which will take over green easily? And, apparently I should be able to bang a colour on top of the green without the need for primer.

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  6 лет назад +1

      In theory that should work just fine mate. Any colour really should take over it ifthe prep is there. Light coats first, the maybe two or three heavier ones. Give me a shout if you have any questions brother?

      Yes, different kind of paint most likely...or the underlayer wasn't cured enough - patience is the key here. If you're not in any rush leave the paint to cure of a few days if unsure. I've done the same mistake again - heartbreaking.
