I took a risk with mine, brand new from Zodiac, used a flap wheel to rub it down so it was rough. matt blacked some scallops then red candy with small flake straight over the top, then just candy followed by loads of clear to help make it smooth. Looks great in the sunlight as you can see the swirls under the paint. It was all done on a budget and I bet less than £50 (Approx $65/70 )
Suggestion from an old painter for spray bombs- Submerge the can in very hot water, take it out an shake it, feel for the temperature of the can to get cool, then repeat until the contents is the same temperature as the water. Hot spray cans work A LOT better. Of course shake the hell out of it before you use it.
To get the look you were going for you use a black base coat then you do silver over then you use a Brillo pad to get the black to come out from under to give it a stainless steel look.
I was going to say the exact same thing the black is supposed to be a base coat and besides who paints the base coat over bare metal what happened to putting primer on he may be a bike builder but he's no painter
Remember this for the next time. Buy a pack of those yellow sponges with the green scotch bright. Then wrap your sandpaper around it. It works good. I’ve done it lots of times. The build is looking good.
It blows my mind someone takes time out of there day, sets up a channel to take us through the journey of building bikes. Just to basically raffle it off ship it to the person and get another rider on the road to maybe some epic rides and good times. That all someone can come up with is a negative response. Here is my response to all the time and effort you have put in Thank you! I build all my rides in this same way and they get so many compliments on being creative. Built a Suzuki VS800 shaft drivin hardtail it was sick. To all the negative Dbags go create something it will give you way less time to bitch and you might learn something....BTW bobber and a fullface here and my s**t is full of soul
I really liked the first tank. What was it off of? The tank you picked just another sporty tank leaves to much frame showing between neck & tank. I'm hoping you can answer a question for me. I have Harley denim black paint on all my tins but I wanna paint my bike white with a gloss finish. Do I have to strip all the black denim paint off my tins as if to start over down to the metal and use primer or can I just paint over the black denim and let that be my foundation?
Are there any painting techniques used to make a tank appear smaller? For those of us that who obsess over things? There are tons of ideas online for making things appear larger, but not for smaller.
Well you said the helmet gave you inspiration for the paintwork. Shame you didn't look how it was achieved. Black was the base coat with a light coat of silver rubbed back and then heavy black highlights. The tank would look great if you start again and buy a tin of silver.

Old tank looked better to me also you should have painted tank silver first then brushed on black, scuffed it then clear coat that way if you get scratch in the clear coat the tank won't rust.
One other thing I noticed, tail light, wiring on top of license plate holder. Do you think the plate will rub on wiring and cause a short. It is a hard tail.
I see what you're going for with the paint, Check out Rat Rob Bob Builds and see how he has done some of his paint work on a few builds. It maybe closer to what you're wanting.
Too bad you had to destroy your fender cutting out for the chain, instead of cutting sections out next time you should lay the fender against something that's concave inward and hammer those spots in a little like a dent,
I think it looks good bro. I don’t like perfection on a bobber bike. The mistakes make it unique. I’m thinking about doing something similar to my heritage softail😎
I like the concept but didn't turn out anything like it should have. Should have got the air brush out and faded in those lines. Finished product looked pretty terrible.
Hey man, looks sick. Quick question though, do you put that tank liner on the inside on those new tanks? Got one from tcbros says it’s pressure tested but they still recommend lining it.

How long did you let the black paint sit before getting at it with the sand paper? How long between clear coats? Thanks!
the paint dried fast so you can scuff it after an hour. depends on the temp outside. clearcoat once its sticky. not wet. not dry.
Needed to use a 2K clear coat, because the first time you get fuel on that clear coat you used, it is going to melt
the sun alone will screw it over if not 2 k .

disagree, old Triumph knee grabber too big and it draws yo away from the rest of the bike.

Question?? Why did you decide not to use any primer on the tank and fender?. I always thought you use primer before paint..
if you spent more time learning and less time coming up with massively stupid user names you would have your answer
Should’ve either applied it in streaks, with a brush, or immediately after spraying, hit it with a dry brush, to remove in places.
