- Joy Benedict reports from Highland Park, where La Estrella Tacos closed its doors after nearly 25 years of operation in Highland Park. Their property was sold, making them just one of many businesses being affected by the bittersweet facelift the neighborhood has received in recent years.
The amount of times I’ve been to LA ESTRELLA while hammered. RIP
😂😂😂
Good times
I hate that the first thing real estate developers do in this area is chop down the mature trees that stand in front of a house or apartment when they want to sell in Eagle Rock and Highland Park this area use to look like you were living in a forest now it's just looking like the rest of Los Angeles. Not only are they gentrifying the neighborhood but they are destroying the landscape that makes this area beautiful
😢
Oh yeah the trees ,I really miss them.
Used to have a tree where i would see parents every morning. Not anymore.
I remember i dated a girl where her mom’s boyfriend lived in the area and we went there. I won’t miss it I blame the people that moved in that area to gentrify it. Screw that city and it’s people they let it get to this point. High rent and snobbish people ruined that area.
I grew up here it was hell lots of gang violence im glad the highland park is getting better.
@michaelzero5278 it took for yt people to move in to make it better. Leaders and law enforcement couldn't do that when there were minorities because it's not important.
@@hectorp86 no they chose not too improve them self im latino I chose to be the best vision of my self. I learn many lessons in the ghetto one of them is too save yourself.
@@michaelzero5278 lo estas biendo de la perspectiva de afuera pero si supieras lo que Pasa detras de puertas cerradas dirias lo mismo.
@@hectorp86 okay I'll explain it to you and I'll keep it simple as I can
Mexican american culture is weak political, financial, food, education, and mentally most latino like too point the finger and blame someone else. In order to have a strong culture we need to improve what I said before. I'm latino im 29 years older I had too save my self no one was going to do it for me, leader are readers.
I hope they still got their taco trucks on york and ave 54 ...

FAREWELL LA ESTRELLA TACOS 1998-2023
Nope won’t miss it bye Felicia
Is it that bad
Yup! Prices went up, quality went down!
Taco Bell taking over with their crunch wraps.
I remember that spot about 40 years ago they should not close it doors down it's a good place I grew up in Highland Park but now I'm in Whittier I miss Highland Park and I missed that spot it is very good in cooking they should not move people out of their places that is heartbreaking to see people losing their places. I do not understand why people are money hungry I'm going to have to pray for those people and I'll pray for all of you that are losing your places and restaurants remember Jesus loves you and so do I Jesus I trust in you
i think they have another location across the street from lincoln park
ALL BAD 😔
That place didn't even have parking. Very odd peice of corner real estate with mainstream store front adjacent to a railroads
Please don’t close permanently! 😔
Oh, Bonnie. You are one of the reasons they are being pushed out. Once you can't afford HP anymore, where will your next gentrification mission be? Lincoln Heights?
Ohh no its going to be hard to find another taco place 😂
The city needs allow open flame grills overhead would be a fraction of the cost.
Everything tastes like a$$ now on Fig...
About time. Y’all know friends, family and even yourself have gotten sick from these trash tacos & burros!
Is it that bad?
Never at that place though. That place was legit and got good health inspector ratings.
@@mopes2713 so legit they closed down. Right, right. You know you wouldn’t even eat there, liar!
@@Adri_57 Did you not watch the news report?? They are closing down because the owners sold the building. Yes I have eaten there many times.
@@mopes2713 liar!
That odd piece of real estate ain't gonna be nothing , market is crashing , most this buisness don't get past the 3 yr mark, aren't profitable Figueroa has plenty of for rent signs on comercial spaces , it's all bs that it's booming
Nothing like the old Highland Park. Figueroa had shops you actually needed. Food, clothes, home appliances, Supermarket, Pharmacy. Now it's just coffee and used shit at very high prices.
No wonder it’s closing 55cent for extra sauce ,70 cent fee for using a card I’m surprised they didn’t charge a fee for standing in line 😂
Inflation….
They have to balance out the prices and since they couldnt they lost the rights to the property and it was sold.
😂😂😂😂
They also charge a .50 cent fee if you get mugged while waiting for your food.
@@CrPerez25 so ture
All those years he should have bought the building

Terrible way to start the weekend 😢
Come to Pasadena. We have 4
There's one Tacos Estrella in Pasadena.
Just because it has the same name, doesn’t mean it has any affiliation to this shop.
oh no we dont have enough taco places here
Lol
Theres a bunch of taco trucks from Ave 52-50 👀

Not My Shrimp Burrito!!!
If you’re a home owner in Higland Park than gentrification doesn’t really effect you, but gentrification pushes renters out. Sux for you if you’re a renter! Remember if you’re renting than that city was never your home to begin with.
Stop paying property taxes, and see how much you really own "your property."
Damn hipsters and yuppies from out of state I tell you
The same people who complain about corrupt Democrats in California, are the ones that want to move here and be a part of Democrat California. Lol
Seems like its people from the east coast that are either mutual fund babies or got some inheritance from wealthy parents that were also born in to money. They are the ones moving here.
Don't they have a thousand Mexican restaurants in LA. already.
Yup, that what I said
I'll take a 1000 of those restaurants over bland hipster food anytime.
@@hectorp86 your missing the point improved yourself and everyone around you and your neighborhood will improve okay
@@michaelzero5278 Improve yourself?? I improve myself by staying healthy and going to the gym. The only thing that will make me a hipster is if I win the lottery. Lol
Drink pabst blue ribbon beer and youll become a hipster automatically
Has anyone noticed how f*cking bizarre Joy Benedict sounds when she says her name? Lol Daily Show used to parody news reporters over ununciating their words like that.
Time to go mobile with a truck
Yeah will be another damn mexican food place in a week.
Keep voting democrat
YOU TRUCK 🚛😭
U2
@@amberwhite6097 and I'll vote my way
So voting Democrat will make rich people gentrify neighborhoods?? I didn’t know that.
King Taco is better
