I love how the chinese passengers leave you to your filming without bothering you, but still approachable when you reach out. I travelled on these green trains in china once on a hardseat aswell as a sleeper cabin, travelling the country ranging from 8 hours to 27 hours straight, and I did noticed its a very social happening in these trains, people talking to random strangers, eating, playing music, sitting in the hallway, doing their things, its very lively, almost like a community on a train :-) Great video, I admire your outgoing personality, good work!
Travelling by train is the most scenic experience and allows time for the body to acclimatize to higher altitude unlike flying into Lhasa airport. Wise choice to pay for a sleeper cabin. What a fascinating journey to the Tibetan plateau.
Thank you for sharing the video. It brings my memory in China back vividly. I miss the green train and the atmosphere of temporary travel community. It was very normal to chat and play card games with strangers to kill the time and even sharing food with each other.
My 2cents advice - only do this in China or some countries with heavy Confucian influence if you really want to try that. With that, it is still not 100% safe!
@@tupolevi Oh yeah definitely, I agree with you. I'm from East Europe so I noticed it's also a little bit more common to do this here in comparison to West European countries where (from my experiences) being more extroverted, bolder with people makes you seem to be more... suspicious perhaps ? Well that's how I could describe it. So yeah, I totally get what you mean, hopefully I'll be able to show more of my personaliy in China as it seems like people are more open about these things.
You don't want to do that. That is dangerous. Everywhere you go, there are bad people and there are crazy cold-blooded murderers. Remember the former Soviet Union infested by KGB agents, one of the safest places on earth if you are not involved politically. They caught a serial killer after more than 200 random killings. I still can remember one Russian who remarked crazy people are non-productive but very cunning.
These trains are intentionally painted with green color to protect natural lives (looks more like the environment and not to scare the animals I guess), especially in the Qinghai and Tibet plateau area as the trains come across the natural reserve area. The high-speed Fuxing trains can be painted with different colors since they run on viaducts.
China is really gorgeous. I am fed up with the lies of the Western mainstream media. This is the real Tibet. I heard that there are very few green trains in China, and these green trains are mainly provided as substitute for people with lower incomes.
Isn't it better to take a slower train, so your body has more time to adjust to high altitude and low oxygen? I read it somewhere, don't know if it is true.
@@wx365 The new HSR is also designed for Tibet, it's sealed with oxygen supply and it slowly changes the oxygen level during the trip. Anyway, taking a train to Tibet is better than flying.
Apparently taking the slow train only helps a little to get used to the low oxygen. It's better to stay 1 - 2 days in Xining if you're really afraid to get sickness altitude. Some of my family members have visited Tibet many times and they gave me three tips. 1. Mindset is most important. Think good = feel good. Think bad = feel bad. Be mentally and physically prepared and be in a happy, positive mood. 2. Don't use any oxygen masks or supplies, otherwise you'll never get used to it. 3. Buy 葡萄糖 (drinkable glucose) at the pharmacy, drink that in case you don't feel well They've also advised me to not drink alcohol, not talk too much and walk slowly but I was too hyped up and didnt do this at all haha
You are very smart to choose the train, 5 years ago I went to Tibet by plane, because of the pressure my body can not adapt, the train will give you time to get used to pressure 😄

Hi Alfred, I was born and raised in the Netherlands but my Chinese family is from Chengdu/Beijing. Ugh, I love the pureness, holiness, the inviting atmosphere, blue skies, and so much more! One day I'll go back to Tibet just chilling on a mountain with my yaks drinking butter tea all day long :)

I remember from travelling hard class sleeper (6 shared and open) and hard class seat the people are more friendly, offering food etc. Soft class nobody is usually very friendly. Looks like fun. I'm old enough to have gone 40 hours on a steam train fueled by coal. Not many foreigners in those days, so people stared more, but friendly.
I did this trip back in early 2007, took the soft sleeper option. Spent a lot of time in the dining car eating chilli chicken and watching the world go by. I remember by the end of the trip, the carpet in the corridors was sodden from of all the other passengers' tea and noodle spills.

I do know that there are more good people than bad, still for a solo young lady I would recommend to be more careful and never drinking with strangers. When my daughter was a teen some guys put something in her drink and she felt dizzy and knew that something was wrong so she left immediately and barely made it at home. The doctor said it was some type of drug and that she would not remember a thing. Would that happened in a train'? or anywhere else?

A few overnight stops during ascent may help offset altitude sickness. Try Rhodiola.
