I love that you addressed spiral fractures and said in the arms. Often nursing students are taught all spiral fractures are abuse. I spent 20 years in law enforcement and found that to be almost always accurate of the arms. Spiral fractures of the legs I found that often it was not abuse and was a stopping motion that twisted like jumping off a swing or off a slide and the feet plant at the bottom. The key point that you made was does the story make sense. This is where critical thinking is important.

Holy cow. I don’t have any children, but it breaks my heart to imagine witnessing stuff like this. I don’t know how people in healthcare can process stuff like this.
To think you have to try to protect a vulnerable child from its own parents. Ugh. Stress!

I would recommend adding this to the pediatric playlist as well, it goes along with my chapters for age development and problems. Love the videos as always Cathy!

As a person who suffers from OCD and PTSD. The first and most important place to look for abuse, is within the psychiatric community you work within yourself. I’ll say it plainly - “right under your nose”. Abuse within psychiatric hospitals is rife, horrific and needs to seriously be looked into. That’s part of the reason why I have PTSD. The abuse that I’ve encountered is criminal, not to mention what I’ve seen done to other patients. I’m sure no one is teaching you about this whilst you are studying. I’ve already written 2 letters to parliamentarians and I won’t be stopping there.
