It's funny because I can confirm that stereotypical Asian accents actually sound quite a bit like Asians speaking English. So in other words, my entire family.
I like how the one guy in the beginning talks about not wanting to do a disservice to the men that served. Then later on you have guys executing VC/NVA. Could be wrong but I can't imagine Vietnam vets being excited about this, or at least the way it all played out.
At the end, both sides did disgusting things. It's one thing to talk about all the horrible stuff the VC did, but it's another to have enough courage and enough respect towards history to be accurate and reenact the horrible stuff the Americans did to VC.
The "turn the cameras off" segment when committing a war crime is pretty much how it would go. If it was real life, soldiers that did that would probably go extra lengths to destroy that video evidence. But that was role playing at its best.

Funny how fast forward a year and Thomas was (and still is) reporting from real frontlines. I wonder if some of that has ever made him think back to this.
I love history so much, especially military history. The main wars I’ve studied are: *World War 1, 2 and Vietnam.* I go through “Fazes” where I’m obsessed with one particular war such as the Iraq war. But for some reason I just never stop loving _The Vietnam War_ (Except the racism, rape and other horrible things that went on during the war.)
That was, honestly, one of the strangest things I've ever seen. I love how they reenacted the media censorship. I can't figure out how much of the 'misconduct' was in parody, and how much was simply in the moment. I just can't imagine how somebody would want to reenact something so... shameful (for lack of a better word).
Why wouldn’t you re-enact it? If you ignore all the bad stuff then it would no longer be a war reenactment. People should know how it actually happened.
Living in Vietnam as a teacher, it is insane seeing the effects at least once or twice a week just out on the streets. That and how much it seems people ignore it. Had a student ask me if I went downtown to see the "mutants". Got very upset with him and told him that those people fought for their countries freedom. That or, they were affected by a war and had no choice in the situations that they are in.

The amount of cheesy 60s mannerisms being made is hilarious. The conduct of the American team is reminiscent of Tropic Thunder. The reporter was in the right however. I have to side against the reenactors...the summary execution was in bad taste and historically speaking a rare occurrence that seldom happened.
Cpl. Gadway USMC I have to agree, as not every soldier was as disrespectful as the re enactors are towards the VC. Thought it was interesting with the media censorship where the soldiers sometimes covered the camera, or told the reporter to turn it off.
Gadway yes .the summary execution was inaccurate. Why waste time with formalities? it slows the body count right, Americas only objective. Women, children, young . old it doesn't matter stack em and tally em and then add a few more no one can check. Gee we are good.
I know this is an old post but, being a younger reenactor, going out to a field could be suffering for whatever time period you reenact. Its also boring as all hell, most of the time is spent sitting around waiting for stuff to happen. When the battle or event comes up everyone is wanting to do something fun, it sounds sadistic but being the bad guy and executing the VC and NVA would be one of the things that makes it worth while and interesting. All in all, It's to add a little flavor to the whole battle.
Jacob Buxton your welcome, I shall now explain the logic behind it, you see because commies believed everyone should be equal there is the chance that they like all the people have the exact same S.T.Ds.
"So, uh, we just witnessed a war crime." I couldn't tell if the reenactor was telling them to stop filming because he was in character or didn't want people to know they replicated executing POWs.
you're right, this is a helluva lot more interesting than what they've had lately. They need to have a series like this where they go to a LARP gathering where narcotics and psychedelics are commonly used by the orcs and elves.

This is the most hilarious thing I've ever seen. Reenacting in the UK is pretty funny (not nearly as much access to firearms, and largely the interest isn't really here, probably because we've not had any major ground wars fought on our soil for 250 years.), but this takes the cake. This really should be a sitcom.

That's the thing with reenacting. Ultimately it's up to the person himself when he chooses to die, but as a general reference, close engagement that out numbers you will result in you having to submit yourself to death.
I hear in major civil war reenactments they give out cards saying whether you live, die, or get wounded and if your dead or wounded where you should fall. Personally that would be a lot of help in these kind because of course the americans are always going to win.
I wonder how actual soldiers feel about this shit. Do they feel mocked, or are they fine with it? I mean, obviously, it will vary from person to person, but I would love an actual veteran's thoughts on this.
Did one of those at Fort Polk, one of the most fun things I've done. Went as a draftee with the 25th I.D. Got fucked to shit when we were sent on night patrol and dug in on a hill about 2 miles from our FOB. As to put that night, from one of my friends that was with me: "I remember the entire digging the foxhole, I was exhausted. I could barely stand, let alone keep my head up with the helmet on. When the night came, it finally cooled off enough to get semi-comfortable, and the permethrin that I'd soaked my uniform in was keeping the insects at bay. I thought I'd finally be able to sleep. I didn't sleep a whole lot, though. The bugs were louder than anything and it was almost like with the cooler air, my body could finally cope and I was able to stay awake. I was using a mostly empty butt pack as a pillow and staring up at the stars obscured by the trees. Then around 01:00, I got woken up for my shift on watch. I can't remember who it was, but they handed me the starlight scope and immediately went to sleep. I remember being terrified of every little breeze. I knew the VC wore black clothing, so ever shadow in my mind was a VC about to fire on us. No shots ever came, though. I tried to use the starlight scope several times, but I could never really see anything through it. Eventually, my shift was over and I passed the watch on to the next guy. Once again, I couldn't really sleep so I just stared at the sky, tense and nervous. Then, a little into that person's watch, we heard the sound of a mortar going off, and we all piled into the foxhole. It was then I realized that in our exhaustion, we definitely made it too small for all of us to fit in, and I could barely get any cover behind the sandbags. The other thing was, even as the mortars were going off around us, the VC were approaching on foot, and we never heard them. All I know is we saw a figure appear, and somebody shout before they opened fire. The one figure we saw was accompanied by another dozen, all around us. Fire from every direction pointed directly at us. The fighting lasted about fifteen minutes and then the VC pulled away. Was a hell of a night, for sure. Spent the rest of the morning laughing at the word "beans" over and over again, probably pissing off Greg and Don! Great event, would love to come back." Obviously, it was just a giant shitpost - still more fun than fighting in a damn sandbox.
I live on a boat in Washington, and my neighbor who also lives on his boat at age 73 fought in Vietnam. Served two tours. He even has scars on his arms from marching through the razor grass and has health problems due to agent orange.
What BS!...Why would the VC's surrender just because they ran out of ammo? This is asymmetric warfare, they would just blend back with the population. But then again, you've got to make the rich guys who pay for these games happy. Wouldn't do if they lost...Can't make money then.
Make money? How the hell is anyone making a cent off this? This hobby is expensive and each participant has to pay their own way and pitch in on all expenses. There's no money coming in dude.
The impression I get is all of these guys failed to go through puberty. Really guys....last time I played war was when I was 7 or 8. I can't believe that actual "vietnam vets" are participating in this. Seems extremely ridiculous and to most Vietnam vets I would think it would be very strange. I know a Vietnam vet and he will not talk about his time in Nam, won't even say a word. It fucked him up bad, the guys that are "vets" participating in this, I would think, probably didn't have any significant experiences while in Vietnam. I'm sorry but this is just stupid and is plain entertainment, just so I can laugh at all the grown men and women who are acting so SERIOUS when playing Vietnam. Seriously...they're all just a bunch of adults playing war. I would never want to be in a war and if I ever were, I could not see myself re-enacting it when it was all over. I find re-enactments of any battle, old or new, to be silly. The only thing I enjoy watching that is even remotely related to re-enactments is Jousting. But that isn't just shooting blanks and playing dead, that's some serious shit.
your probably one of these ass holes that also what to destroy all of the national museums and battle fields to put in a strip mall or something stupid to ??
As an active duty service member I'm going to kindly ask you to shut the fuck up. There is nothing wrong with what their doing and I for one appreciate it considering most people don't know shit about history at all today. I imagine you copied notes while in history class. I and others here don't care for your opinion. Go do whatever it is that makes you happy and stop shitting on other peoples hobbies. In the meantime do some pushups.
I just wanted to get you pegged for the type you are. Typical anti American type. Good to see you're keeping that standard. Seems like you suffer from a classic case of projection. Taking your internal feelings and projecting them onto others so you don't have to own them. I've seen more human rights abuses by the religion of islam than you can ever imagine from my line of work. But since you know first hand please educate me how those that attacked us have done nothing wrong and we are the ones doing everything wrong.
Josh Leviton Lol. Didn't say that in any way, shape, or form. I find it funny that just because I'm disagreeing with you (you being a service man) that you think I'm "anti-American" I'm all about freedom dumbass. I'm exercising my rights right now by disagreeing with you and calling you a dumbass.
But you are being anti American. You're slanting your argument to make it appear as if that is ALL America does. Sure you have the right to disagree with me and think what you want but at the end of the day I don't care. I live what you see on TV and read in your books for real. I have real firsthand experience. All you have is what you've "heard". It's obvious you're a troll so I'm going to deny you the satisfaction of your shenanigans by ignoring you. Good day.
It's incredible how people like my uncle and my father who were actually in the military at the time of the vietnam war this is a disgrace to All veterans and vietnam vets
Ignacio Caceres "A disgrace to all Vietnam war vets" When some of the people who are participating in this are actually Vietnam war vets so that's untrue.
oPINIONS care to elaborate? As a reenactor myself our goal is to show and teach the public the life style of the soldier during wars. There is some fun involved. The fact that you dare call me stupid for doing a education hobby makes me want to throat punch you so badly. Maybe you didn't know I am going into the service as well? Oh wait, maybe you didn't know that most reenactors are military vets themselves. Do me a favor and step off, punk.

I thought he was just making a face.
Between 4:28 and 4:51 is the best exchange ever on Vice. Also, I particularly like around 6:30 -- "The skinny one's a smart ass"
Yeah we can speculate all we want but there are definitely timelines to consider. Maybe they just needed to wrap things up.
They would but there’s no population to blend with the Viet cong would stand out among the white populous of North Vietnam.
This is one of the most awkwardly disturbing things I've seen in a long time. Nice piece.
I think i heard some american say konnichiwa to the "vietnamese"
I love at 05:25 how the reporter says nonchalantly, "Yeah, uh, there's a light over there, guys." And then the shit hits the fan.
Good day.
5:24 was the best part lol "ughhhh theres like a light over there guys" **ROCKET EXPLODES** **GUNSHOTS**
7:22 ...wtf
+sam pope I loled at the irony
Agreed, Thomas Morton is awesome. Don't know why people keep calling him a hipster. lol
It's incredible how people like my uncle and my father who were actually in the military at the time of the vietnam war this is a disgrace to All veterans and vietnam vets
Ignacio Caceres You're stupid.
Ignacio Caceres "A disgrace to all Vietnam war vets" When some of the people who are participating in this are actually Vietnam war vets so that's untrue.
+Elias Morgan no you are
oPINIONS care to elaborate? As a reenactor myself our goal is to show and teach the public the life style of the soldier during wars. There is some fun involved. The fact that you dare call me stupid for doing a education hobby makes me want to throat punch you so badly. Maybe you didn't know I am going into the service as well? Oh wait, maybe you didn't know that most reenactors are military vets themselves. Do me a favor and step off, punk.
No u
