I didn't think it looked THAT rough--I think we've ALL seen worse! I hate the mismatched knobs on it--that just trashes it out IMO...I like 'em matching...
Did you know that Troglodytes are Cave Dwellers? Here in England we had a band called The Troggs, who had a Number One Hit with Wild Thing. On a school trip in 1966, when I was 15, to Cheddar Caves in Somerset, we met The Troggs, who were having a photo shoot for their From Nowhere The Troggs album sleeve. Check it out, as that’s where Trogly thinks we live!
Schecter have hit it out of the park the last couple of years, their lineup is fantastic. That said, the Nick Johnston signature Strat copy is a ~ $1700 guitar selling for $3150. There's nothing about it that puts it in the > $2k range.
I remember Ace Frehley was photographed at the debut event and holding the guitar with a face like someone just cut a massive fart neat him and he couldn't leave the room.
@@socialdef3 Translation: "I don't understand why your light hearted reaction to Troggly's statement comment was upvoted while my shitty spiteful ass comment about taking a silverburst LP and selling it to a "dum dum" is sitting at the bottom with none..." That about cover it precious?
I have one of these and, you know, it's not a bad guitar. It's well-made, plays well, and sounds great. Sure, the switching and effects systems are so overly complicated that only keyboard players can figure them out, but other than that, it's a very good guitar. I still have it and play it straight through the excellent Firebird pickups without using all the bells and whistles that I have on my pedalboard, anyway. I think it's cool and I'm gonna keep it. Wait, it'll be a highly regarded classic someday.
That's crazy! A silverburst from the 290th day of '80(leap year) is my birthday guitar conquest. Any LP with the serial number starting 82900 would do, but the silverburst is my unicorn. Keep your eyes peeled for me🤣
Darn! I’m really sorry to hear that the Captain Kirk SG Custom has been discontinued. I was really hoping to get one at some point, but it’s too late now! $2500 is more than I can afford these days, and any that show up now will be way more expensive.
Only Gibson would offer popular signature series guitars and then make them all limited editions just to artificially restrict supply to push up resale value rather than satisfy the demand of their loyal core customers. Here’s a novel idea. If people seem to actually really want the specs of the Capt Kirk signature why not just incorporate those features into a production SG, or just keep their signature guitars as regular production models like Fender. Seems to work for popular models like the Clapton Strat, where resale stays high and Clapton fans and people that just like the unique electronics and versatility of the EC Strat can find one without too much trouble. Fender does accommodates collectors and real players by offering a production EC Strat and a custom shop one. But apparently that is asking too much of Gibson. Looks like Gibson, despite their pleas to the contrary that they have turned over a new leaf, are still trying to be a lifestyle and luxury goods brand rather than a musical instruments company for working musicians, hobbyists, and aspiring guitarists. It’s no wonder why they have antagonized old customers while somehow also developing a poor rapport with new potential customers. A little goodwill would go a long way. So too would better QC, more accessible pricing, and adequate variety, selection, and availability of popular models. Then again they are following the well-worn playbook of their private equity owners and alienating customers to extract every last cent of surplus value. Good in the short run but bad in the long run. Looks like they are bound to repeat the mistakes of Norlin, Juszkiewicz and company.
I've never heard of this guitar and I expected something much worse but this is pretty cool! And I think the reverse flying V is probably more hated 😂😂
I kind of want a birth year birthday guitar in my collection now I doubt it's ever going to happen, but maybe I'll look into taking getting one seriously some day.
I have the much cheaper indonesian Verizon with the roasted maple neck and HSS pickups and I absolutely love it. I could only imagine how the USA Verizon is. But it's 3.5 times the price, definitely not something I can afford
I went to a Gibson promo event for the launch of this guitar in Toronto, back whenever that happened, willing to bet this is the exact one I tried... crazy! haha Pretty sure they had a blue one there as well.
Respect for the address pixelation at the top, and I love the channel, but I can't really believe they'd put sloppy marker on the headstock to mark the 1st one of a series. But stranger things have happened. Cool find, either way!
I always loved the Gibson Les Paul guitar and been playing for 52 yrs but never could own one standard or custom if I ever do get a chance to own one it sure would b treated better then a baby cus of my love for this guitar
If I had the money I'd buy the Firebird. I love those oddball guitars and it broke my heart to see them just crushed when most of the parts and wood could have been recycled or even saved. I'm sure people could fix batteries and other electrical issues that may occur down the line but damn, those might be my favorite guitars. That and the 50's and 60's goldtops.
i don't know about others but i love the appearance of these firebird x's. i could certainly live without all of the extra electronics but the basic guitar i'd be happy to own.
Surprisingly enough, the first guitar I bought was made on my birthday. Even more interesting, it used to be owned by a close friend of mine. He's alright with me owning it, but he's begged me to never sell it.
I found a Birth year and month guitar! It was my first purchase on Reverb last year a 1987 Gibson ES-335 Dot in Cherry that was made one week after I was born. One of the best guitars I have ever played!!
It looks like the did a good packing job. I wish I had that luck. I have bought 6 guitars from them in the last year. 3 of them arrived with serious damage and where very poorly packed. I returned 2 , but kept 1 and called in Stewmac. I am repairing that one to keep for myself. Not a great guitar, but the same as my very first guitar that I got rid of about 40 years ago.
It might look slightly better if it had an ebony fretboard with mother of pearl block inlays and minus that stupid "X". The red body finish looks really cool though!
A birthdate guitar would be hard to get a hand on, since my birthday is on July 4 and so many businesses are closed for the holiday. If I can find one, it'd be sweet.
Trogly! As a Japanese Signature guitars fan, I'm wondering if you could please find a Masayoshi Takanaka Yamaha SG-2000? It's an historic guitar! And Takanaka is a very interesting guy (check out his surf guitar)
Having worked at Gibson during that era I feel my hatred for that particular model is justified above and beyond. I still have tshirts they gave me when they couldn't sell enough guitars to give away the shirts to buyers.
@@nikonmikon8915 yeah if you’re talking to Gibson enthusiasts. There’s a company I don’t see anything wrong with them taking things into the future and creating new instruments. They’re not gonna exist forever under five basic models forever. I’m a through and through Les Paul guy but I’ve also owned a Parker fly deluxe and would happily buy innovative guitars from Gibson. Especially if it helps me in the studio with unique options.
I wonder if Gibson still has the FBX body blank and if they’d do a made to measure one. I’d want either an explorer headstock or a Trini Lopez shaped one but with banjo tuners. Idk about what pickups maybe a p90 in the neck and a dirtyfingers in the bridge.
Trog as much as I like the Pumpkin walls. I believe it's time for a repaint in that room. Is that Adam Jone's signature on the second Silverburst? All those guitars are cool as hell

I never played one, but I love the look more than any SG.
After seeing all of the crap on that Firechicken X I can see why Esquires and Les Paul Juniors are so well loved.
Sorry to hear people are sick of hearing about those SG’s, I think they are amazing!
Kinda wish you plug the guitar in with the pedals, to see if they work and how they sound.

I played one of those firebirds at CES before they came out and I think it had that Sharpe serial as well. Terrible feeling and sounding.
Technically the original Prototype was a solid metallic Orange not swirled
I'm sure there were many "prototypes" for this guitar. I hope to one day find one of the non-production color ones!
how much for the firebird x?
Like the Edsel I bet they wind up being collectable.
the one thing that turns me off of the firebird x is that hideous x inlay on the fretboard
Whether you keep or sell that Firebird I would like to see it again all cleaned up atleast
I think the Firebird is cool but the marking on the headstock looks like it was done by a kid with hobby paint. Weird to say the least.
At least it’s on the back of the headstock, and it looks better than the front of a 2015 Les Paul headstock.
Never saw a Gibson like the first!! Instant love! Only the bright red of the back of the neck is a turn-off....😏
